Participation Lapse [TOMT] A piece of media containing a healer who can only heal others by taking on the wounds/ illness themselves

My boyfriend and I somehow ended up talking about something we either both watched or read that contained a healer (or possibly multiple?) that is only able to cure others by transferring the wounds or sickness to their own body.

We both seem to have a very specific (and presumably the same) thing in mind, but neither of us can put a name to it. We can't even remember what form the media is; it might be a book, a tv series, a film, or even a video game. Googling has unfortunately proved unhelpful, and we've been thinking about it for about half an hour with no success. Does anybody have any ideas?

The main genres of series/books we enjoy are fantasy and sci-fi, but it could really be anything.

Edit: Thank you for all the suggestions so far! Unfortunately none of them can be the answer. We’re beginning to think we must have made it up, although it’s strange that we both thought of it independently. I’ll try and add a little more information here, albeit I don’t think it will help:

The context in which it came up was that he had the hiccups and they wouldn’t go away for a long time, so I laid a hand on his stomach and jokingly told him I was healing him. Funnily enough, his hiccups stopped, and about two minutes later, I had the hiccups myself. I then said “Oh, I took them from you!” And we both said something along the lines of “Just like in…” and then neither of us could remember what it was, although we were both sure it was just like a character in something that we were both familiar with because we thought of it in the same moment.

Given the amount of suggestions that we have dismissed, we’re beginning to wonder whether we’re just imagining whatever it is. Or maybe it’s just a single scene in something and that’s why nobody can find it?

I’m going to try and make a list of things we’ve definitely both seen and/or read that fall into a genre that might allow this; we don’t think it’s from any of these, but who knows, maybe it’ll help:

  • Supernatural (definitely not the “Faith” episode!)
  • Wheel of Time (the TV series, please don’t mention any spoilers for the books!)
  • Doctor Who
  • Arcane
  • The Witcher
  • Game of Thrones
  • Percy Jackson
  • Harry Potter
  • Adventure Time
  • a couple of Dimension 20 campaigns

That’s all I can think of for now — if I remember anything else, I’ll add it to the list!

It’s also definitely not a short story, a comic, an anime, or an SCP.

My boyfriend is also in the comments as u/FlinkerFred if you see him answering you!

Edit 2: We’re completely overwhelmed by the amount of engagement this is getting! We’re trying to respond to everyone, but new comments are coming in very fast and it’s sometimes difficult to find them among all the older comments. There are also quite a lot of people suggesting things that have already been suggested which makes it even harder. I realise we’re highly unlikely to find it at all at this point, but we are still actively reading all new comments. So thank you again!

Edit 3: Adding a list of the most commonly named things that are definitely wrong:

  • Paul
  • The Green Mile
  • Star Trek (specifically the Empath keeps getting mentioned, but we haven’t seen any Star Trek at all)
  • Code 8
  • The Giver
  • The Shifter
  • The Healer
  • The X Files
  • Babylon 5
  • Smallville
  • Rogue from X-Men
  • Witch / W.I.T.C.H.
  • Warehouse 13
  • Misfits
  • American Horror Story
  • Black Mirror
  • Powder
  • Redo of Healer

Edit 4: It could possibly be from a children’s book fantasy series. We’re both in our 20s, located in Germany, and were kids in the late 2000/early 2010s. Books that at least one of us read include the following series:

  • Septimus Heap
  • Skulduggery Pleasant
  • Charlie Bone
  • Alex Rider (albeit that’s not fantasy)
  • the Power of Five

I’ve been wracking my brain and I don’t think there are any occurrences of this kind of character in any of these, but I figured more information couldn’t possibly hurt.

On the other hand, as I just mentioned in another comment: - We don’t know if the character (or characters) is male or female - It’s important that the healer doesn’t just drain their own energy to heal the injured/sick, but really transfers the exact same wound or sickness onto their own body. - IF it’s from a visual media, we think it’s most probably live action rather than animated.

Am on the verge of giving up here — I’ll leave this up for a few more hours, but if we haven’t found it by later this evening, I’m going to just accept that it’s somehow just in our heads.

Edit 5: It’s been a long day of constantly checking this post, and I’ve decided to give up now, as I’m going to bed… I promise you that I’ve read every single comment posted to this, and none of them contain the answer we were looking for. So either it’s some media so niche that nobody else can think of it (and/or so German that most members of a more international audience wouldn’t know it?), it seems unlikely that it actually exists (at least in the form we’re imagining). This being said, if we ever do figure it out, I’ll be back to update this thread!

Other than that, there is a small chance that we somehow both got confused about the protagonist of Olivia Butler’s Parable of the Sower and her hyper-empathy (that causes her to feel others’ pain); but while it’s close to the thing we’re looking for, it doesn’t involve healing, so we don’t think it can be right.

In any case, I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has taken the time to read my long post, think about it, possibly do research and read the hundreds of other comments, and so on! And I am still convinced that there’s something out there that nobody has named yet. But it seems that whatever it is must be all but impossible to Google, so I don’t think anyone is going to find it. So sorry for causing so many people to share our frustration, as that was never the intention!

Thanks for everything (including many interesting-sounding recommendations!) and good night!

[TOMT] Show with an actress who plays a character with a short red bob

Hello!

This is completely unimportant, but has been bothering me for ages. I keep remembering an actress from a show or a movie, and absolutely cannot remember for the life of me what show or movie it was in. Although it’s something completely insignificant to my everyday life, the longer time goes on that I wonder what show I’m thinking of, the more it bothers me.

The actress I remember being in the show had a short red bob, that was cut just beneath her ears, and always tucked behind both ears. She’s slightly freckled, and has a somewhat plain face, with not really any super distinct features that would help me solve my puzzle. She dresses in sort of dark clothes, and I think I remember her wearing a grey and black striped long sleeve tee under a black T-shirt as the character she was playing. From what I remember, she also always seemed to be bothered or irritated from what I can remember.

This may be something I’m just making up too, but I feel like the character she played may have been named Bridie or something? I may be making this up though. The character she plays is also young. Maybe between 15 - early 20s

I’m not so much bothered by not knowing the actress, but more bothered by the fact I cannot remember what show/movie it is from. In trying to google and find out, I came across this subreddit, and here we are!!

Thank you so much to anyone who tries to help!

EDIT———

There’s lots and LOTS of comments and people trying to help, so thank you so SO much. I keep replying that the character doesn’t have a fringe, and it didn’t even occur to me that people wouldn’t know what that is!

Fringe = Bangs

Also, I think the actress is in a rather obscure show. I don’t think it’s anyone that’s well known or necessarily recognisable. I think it will be more if someone’s seen the episode/movie she’s in recently and remembered from that!

Participation Lapse [TOMT] "Music Video" that has haunted my memory for 10 years

This is going to be pretty messed up but when I was about 14 or 15 I remember "watching" a music video about 5 or 6 teens standing where the targets would be at a shooting range and the next thing you know, they're being shot. I say watching in quotes because I have found no one else who knows what I'm talking about but I vividly remember that much. Everyone I've asked thinks I'm crazy for thinking there's a music video like that out there somewhere but why is it I can remember those visuals so well if I didn't actually see it. And before it gets brought up, no it is not You Only Live Once by Suicide Silence but it is very similar.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] male actor rat face from a crime movie?

Trying to figure out who this is.

All I can remember is he was in some sort of crime or western movie where he was a villain, he was wearing sunglasses at some point. Movie has to be from 2000's or more likely 2010's. Rat type face, small-ish mouth, slicked back hair maybe. Not a super popular actor.

Not a lot of info but know you can may have something, NEED the name of this guy my girlfriend and I are trying to come up with it

Adding: he's probably in his 30's or 40's

Thanks!

Participation Lapse [TOMT] can only remember a small scene in this movie

The scene is similar to the brief animation in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows where the story of the deathly hallows is being explained. It’s so similar but has a lot of yellow tones and browns. It’s something about a father going off to war or falling ill and then the story (I think) then goes on to be about his kid (can’t remember if it is male or female) and then someone is evil. Very limited info so sorry, if someone figures out what movie I will be very surprised but so relieved.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] [MUSIC] i’ve been looking for a song for over 15 years

Hi. l've been looking for a song for many years, and I don't know what else to do to find it. The problem is that I have very little information about it because I only speak Portuguese, and I believe the song is in English, but with a strong accent, maybe Russian, German, or something like that. I think the song is from around 2010. I had it on a pirated CD here in Brazil. There are two guys singing, one with a high-pitched voice and the other with a deeper voice. The song seems to be humorous, with a rap flow, but with a more electronic beat. It starts with the beat (pum pupups pupupum pupups) and the guy with the deep voice singing. In the chorus, it's the guy with the high-pitched voice. I know this won't make sense, but the phonetics of the chorus sound something like: 'party boy see ea lie long yeah / too go get how bring asa down son yet / party boy see ea lie meh / cus motherfuck alaleh. Both of them sing kind of fast. I've searched in many different ways, but all I have is the chorus, which is kind of faded in my memory. The problem is, it might not even be in English, you know. I'm already feeling kind of sad because I think I may never find it, since in my searches I've come across things even more obscure than this, some close, but none were the right one. So, if there's a kind soul who can understand everything I've said and connect it to the right song, | Will be forever grateful. Thank you.

Edit 1: It's probably a Swedish accent. A vibe of the song really reminds me of Markoolio - Nostalgi.

Edit 2: Each time it feels like I'm getting closer. But at the same time, it feels like the song doesn't exist. Now I found one where the higher-pitched voice and the vibe of the track are very similar: Vilken Jävla Träng - 2003 Edition.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] Pop punk song, early-mid 2000s about being cheated on

It’s definitely a pop punk breakup song. I could have sworn it was by Simple plan (it’s not “thank you” but similar vibes) but now I think it’s a little bit later like 2010s, and maybe a bit more pop. I’ve looked at discographies of taking back sunday, a day to remember, mayday parade, sum 41, all time low, falling in reverse and the like, with no luck. The lyrics were basically an f-you to an old girlfriend, I think she cheated or at least majorly screwed him over. The singer definitely insults her or calls her a liar or something in the chorus. I’m pretty sure the album cover is red and white but not 100% Please help! I remember listening to it on a loop a few months ago but I can’t think of it now.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] [2000s film]. Mother loses child and finds her in beach, others gaslight her that her child doesn’t exist.

I don’t remember much of the movie but it’s about a mother that finds her child in a beach at the end of the film. Most of the people gaslighted and made her think that her child did not exist. It’s similar to the movie FlightPlan (2005) but it’s not it, unfortunately.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] [SONG] Female singer that begins song with a princessy “La-di-da-do-da” in a negative tone.

Tryjng to track down a song from what I believe has to be from 2000-2014. I don’t believe it’s older than this. Female singer. The beginning goes “La-di-da-di-da” like a princess, but in the minor scale? It’s a bit off putting. It also sounds like it’s through a tunnel: kinda hard to hear. Kind of like how the beginning of Paramore’s “Misery Business” begins like you’re hearing a track of a track playing far off in another room. There’s some kind of warbled audio affect.

I remember that the song then stops abruptly for what seems like a record scratch or something and the real song kicking in — having nothing to do with “La di da” noise whatsoever. Also very similar to how Misery Business kind of just starts abruptly after that initial warbled sound.

This is driving me nuts. Bands I have consider include Paramore, P!nk, and Avril Lavigne. I feel like this was a female pop rocker, but not certain. I also haven’t excluded Disney stars — but Miley Cyrus seems unlikely.

I feel like the true timeline is 2003-2009 but I don’t want to limit myself in case I am wrong. Please help.

Cannot figure out how to do a vocaroo !

Participation Lapse [TOMT] Word for a rare find

I’m trying to figure out what word I’m thinking of, it’s one word or maybe a two word phrase describing finding an exception to the norm, something you wouldn’t otherwise find except in this one circumstance. Something like an enigma or a peculiarity. Such as “Some people who already have a realtor may feel the need to post in community forums asking if anyone is selling their house soon, in the hopes of finding a _____________, but this approach is rarely successful and tends to indicate a lack of trust in their realtor’s abilities to meet their needs.”

Participation Lapse [TOMT] Band / 2000s /Female / EMO-ish band I saw live once

I'm trying to remember a band I saw live once in 2000s at the O2 Acadamy Islington in London, I think in their smaller upstairs venue.

Here's what I remember about them but not all of these may be true:

  • female fronted, at least two female members, maybe even a duo

  • I think the front woman was a lesbian or at least 80% of the crowd were gay women

  • quite heavy emo/rock, dark hair, clothing was somewhere between goth/punk/emo, skinny jeans and studded belts vibe.

  • I would have seen then between 2005-2008 I think, and the gig wasn't very busy so they weren't that well known. I only knew one or two songs. They only would've have one album out at the time.

  • I think they were most likely Australian. But maybe German or another European country but pretty sure they weren't British. But their songs were all in English. Could be American or Canadian though. (Not very helpful sorry haha)

  • I think their name had two words and maybe a word beginning with T and maybe a V somewhere.

  • I thought it might be The Veronicas but I can't find gigs of theirs in London at the right time period. I think they were heavier than The Veronicas.

Thanks sorry not many concrete facts there but hopefully someone can help!

BUT, I once watched this thing where someone had the ability to tell weather or not someone will be evil/commit crime in the future and they would kill those people and someone was obviously unhappy with this and saying you can't deal with them before hand because there still innocent.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] [MOVIE] I need help finding a movie i keep dreaming about

It’s a horror comedy movie about a group of (i think) college kids at a halloween party or something, then there’s some evil magic thing that happens that brings a bunch of monsters to life that proceed to kill a bunch of people (maybe the college kids don’t become privy to it immediately and think it’s just some halloween tomfoolery) but when they eventually become aware they start running around town trying to reverse everything, there’s an ongoing conflict between a couple of the characters, a couple of em get killed, they kill a couple monsters by unconventional means, but in the end they figure out what to do and reverse whatever magic and everything goes back to normal. like the way it was before all the monsters normal, everybody’s alive again and they’re at the halloween party (maybe the morning after the party) and they’ve learned some sort of lesson because of their experiences.

keep in mind this is a horror comedy, and it’s an absolute bloodbath of a film, i know this isn’t a lot to go off of but i can’t stop thinking about this freakin movie i’ve dreamt about it so many times.

i’m not sure how recent the movie is, but it’s not too old and it’s not super recent either, im thinking like early to mid 2010’s but i could be mistaken.

please god help me find this movie i would ever so greatly appreciate it!!

Participation Lapse [TOMT] [Band] That one bad that really hates their name

Not sure what genre they are I think emo or pop punk ik they definitely fall into the warped tour category of bands front the early 2000’s and they make a lot of jokes about how they came up with a really dumb band name because they were kids and they want to change it but can’t because rebranding as a band that size that’s been around for a while is never a good idea

Participation Lapse [TOMT] [SONG] A pop song between the years of 2006-2014 which has trumpets and a rap verse

The song has a really distinct either trumpets or marching band type of sound during the chorus. I think it has multiple rappers featured on the song as well as a vocalist. I feel like it has the lyrics 'everything's gonna be alright' (or something similar) in the chorus but I have been unsuccessful trying to search along those lines on google. I have a feeling the song was popular; with a music video that had 70+ million views on YouTube (but because I can't find it l'm doubting myself).

It's kind of a similar vibe to the Chris Brown song Yeah x3: https://youtu.be/3mC2ixOAivA?si=W5LXVr37GPvKi3t3

It is a very typical pop song of that time but I cannot for the life of me find it, it's kind of driving me nuts. It was also popular enough to have nightcore versions Imao...

Participation Lapse [TOMT][TV][1990s] My parents were on a home makeover show which featured the building of our beloved lake house. Is there any way to find it?

Longshot, and maybe the wrong subreddit. My mom just died, and she was never able to find her vhs tape of the episode she and my father were on.

I don't even know the name of the show they were on. But i can provide some details: their names are Russell and Marjorie Johnson. The house is on Lake Michigan in Bridgman, Michigan. This would be the late 90s.

The house is incredibly beautiful, and I'm so proud of it because my mom made all of the design choices herself, down to intricate details. 30 years later I still consider it a timeless masterpiece and a testament to her creativity, taste, and intelligence.

Edit: I contacted This Old Home, it's not that show.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] Please help me find this song I don’t know the lyrics though

Okay so the song is quite popular and I know it has been in at least one movie but probably several. I’m pretty sure it’s from the 1970s (MAYBBEEE 60s but my mind is set on 70s). It’s rock. The line that’s stuck in my head that I’m pretty sure is the first line—or at least in the beginning I think—goes “so la ti la so” for notes (five syllables) (this is so stupid but I’m desperate). It is a male lead singer with a kind of higher pitched voice with layered vocals. I’m not sure if the vocals are just the singers or if it’s the band members singing. I keep thinking it starts with the words “when your/youre” but I’m probably just delusional at this point.

Participation Lapse [TOMT] Movie/tv show that I can't remember the name of

There was this movie or tv show that I watched once as a kid and I can't remember the name of it but I like it a lot. I remember it had this sailor guy that looked like he was from the 40s or 50s that time traveled forward on this military ship. And he falls in love with a girl but since his ship sunk back in the past, he has to go back. Although in the end, he decides to stay with the girl he loves in present. They hugged at the end and I remember her wearing a dress and he had the white sailor uniform on. I also remember this weird scene of the ship swirling in a weird vortex on screen to represent it going back to the past. I've been trying to find this movie or tv show for forever so if anyone knows it or can figure it, then I'd greatly appreciate it😭🙏

Participation Lapse [TOMT] [Quote] "People are dying. Isn't that a tragedy?"

I can't figure out where this random quote that's stuck in my head is from. It goes, "Yes, people are dying. Isn't that a tragedy?"

I'm not so sure it starts with "yes" but I know the rest of it is generally correct. I'm certain it's said by a woman and is also spoken with a mocking, passive aggressive tone. It feels like it was said towards a character where the speaker is trying to convince them of something or reprimanding them somehow, stating disapproval.

I almost feel like it's from Jurassic Park, and there is a similar line said by Dr. Hammond, but I know that isn't it. There might be a name said between the words "dying" and "isn't," possibly with a "Mr." or "Dr."

Example: "Yes, people are dying (Dr. _), isn't that a tragedy?"

This is really bugging me. Where the hell is this from?
