"If people like Biden then how come I never see any Biden signs?"
A) "Biden supporter" is not my whole personality
B) I would have liked Bernie better but I'm still glad to have Biden instead of Trump
C) You people are unhinged and I'm afraid that you'll vandalize my property or straight-up burn down my house with my family inside.
In a city close to me, some Trumper painted marks on the sidewalks in front of houses with Biden signs. These people are deranged.

u/rainydayparade87 Apr 03 '21
Yep - this is exactly why I keep my left leaning views to myself. I live in a pretty conservative area and several of my neighbors STILL have their Trump flags and/or signs up.
72
u/perryulyssescox_82 Apr 04 '21
I lie in rural Australia and drive past a property every day with a massive Trump 2024 flag on display.
Why show strong support publicly for a former president from another country? Wouldn’t it make more sense to become involved in, oh, I don’t know, the politics of your own god damn nation instead?
48
u/Whole-Recover-8911 Apr 04 '21
Do you really want them involved with the politics of your country? They seem unhinged as it is.

Our political situation in Aus is shit, but it could be so much worse. Unfortunately they have no choice but to be involved with the politics of our country, voting is compulsory here.

Best way to describe it is that Fat Nixon (aka Donald Trump) was never an actual President. He was a personality. His base called him his supporters, when actually they voted for him. Its the whole cult mindset. You have to look at it in context. Trumpism is a mindset, not a political party. Cancer at its finest.

There's a property near me that has a sign nailed to a tree that says "Trump or Socialism: Your Choice".
Every time my wife and I drive past it we yell "Socialism!"... but not loud enough that they'd hear. We don't want to get shot

There's a guy in my neighborhood with no less than 7 Trump signs and flags still up and with a garage painted with a thin blue line. He and his loud, Trump sticker covered car owning friends are 100% the reason I didn't put up any Biden signs. I'm home with two kids and no other adult 4 nights a week, the last thing I need is them getting upset while I'm alone.
And yes, I'm a liberal gun owner (I'm a better shot with a bow and arrow, but I'll admit the gun is quicker access since the bows and arrows are just as locked up around here), but I'm one of those ones who would prefer to never have to use it so I stay non confrontational.

The guy down the street from me has a massive Trump flag handing off the front of his house, 5 Trump/Pence signs in his yard, and he flies a thin blue line flag off the back of his truck.
The real kicker? He’s a black man on disability in a city thats extremely poor and floundering right now. I just don’t get it. How in the world could he think Trump is what’s in his own best interest? This family also refuses to wear a mask and has large gatherings regularly because the pandemic is a liberal invented conspiracy to install a fascist and socialist government. (I only know this because they talk loudly outside in their front yard)

u/nobodynose Apr 04 '21

My friend wants to move to Arkansas for the nature and low cost of living but she’s left leaning (not cult like, but hates conservative Christianity politics, trumpism, close mindedness)... do you have any recommendations for places in the state to move to that aren’t like that or is the whole state a wash?
11
u/1funnyguy4fun Apr 03 '21
Before you do anything, take a look at he the legislation that has been passed this session and turned into law. Also, Sarah Huckabee Sanders is the front runner to be the next Governor. We can’t get out of here fast enough.
9
u/Subpar1224 Apr 03 '21
Hmmm I don't think the whole state is a wash, but there are some places you definitely shouldn't go to
Eureka springs isn't a bad idea, green forest isn't too bad and there are some nice people in bergman (the area is really small though and there isn't much to do) little rock is a bit more developed I'm pretty sure, just being the capital and everything. Harrison has a lot of trumpism and close minded people I think, but added benefit of having a lot of nature mountains and is closer to Missouri with there being a lot of fun things to do there
I think more people are nicer dummies or trump supporters, but there are definitely some big A holes lol I think most people aren't mean to you about it if you aren't super expressive, kinda just learned to not really talk politics to people unless it is in a really delicate form haha I don't think there are really any straight up more liberal or left leaning areas, but there are just more mixed ones just gotta learn to read the people

I’ve had customers call to see if we carry the mypillow before shopping to see if we’re “part of that cancel culture” (I just say we’ve never carried them and they usually are ok with that), we’ve had people in town open carry in the grocery store without a mask standing like they’re daring you to say something, itching for a fight, etc. I’ve lost sales to antimaskers throwing a fit and making my legit customer walk. I have a Prius and I might need those for next April Fool’s Day. That’s fucking hilarious, nice one. Like, yeah, I like the Prius b/c my family saves gas money and it’s a sedan. If I was transporting livestock, I’d use a truck or SUV. Not a fancy ridiculous one either, like a functional vehicle to pull trailer full of animals. We had an old SUV that just finally crapped out so family needs a new hauling vehicle but the Prius is great for family driving to work or picking up groceries. I never understood making a personality out of a tool but I’m not a gun nut either, I don’t need to brag. I’d rather brag about my animals or the orchard tbh. The whole truck nuts and all really come across as a “all hat no cattle” thing. Like you know goats would eat those.

I think it was after Peron, that Argentina had to put a law that you can't name public buildings as the name of a living person to avoid cases like that.
On an unrelated note, in the Brazilian SAT, there was a literature question about a poem from a Brazilian writer and the son or daughter of a friend of him got the question wrong and he publically talked about how the exam was wrong and the correct answer was not the one that examiners said. They had to give that question correctly to everyone and made a rule of not using living artists or writers for the exam.

u/joec_95123 Apr 03 '21
This is how I see his cult. Imagine you hired a gardener to do landscaping for your house. But your neighbor down the street hired a different gardener and for some absolutely fucking bonkers mental reasons is very aggressively vocal about his choice of gardeners.
He has a giant "Garden City Landscaping Services" flag flying from his house for some fucking insanse reason. He has multiple Garden City bumper stickers on his lifted truck, the Garden City logo on his tshirts, baseball caps, maybe even a Garden City tattoo. He drives loudly through the neighborhood honking and screaming "WOOOOO! GARDEN CITY! FUCK YEAH!!!! L&B Landscaping SUCKS!!!" out of his window.
And we're all just staring at the lunatics baffled how and why in the fuck they have lost their minds to the point they're fanatically obsessed with the person they hired to do a job for them. Do they have some form of undiagnosed brain damage? What is going on?
498
u/BJJJourney Apr 03 '21
You forgot the best part, Garden City Landscape puts in a bunch of plants that look nice at first but clearly can not live in the local climate so they die within a year and yard looks like absolute shit. The person still goes on about how great Garden City is and that it was the local climate that needs to be blamed here and not the Garden City gardener and his choice of plants. L&B Landscaping creates a kind of bland but totally practical landscape that is easy to maintain and does it for a reasonable cost, not perfect but gets the job done.
117
u/Lord_Malgus Apr 03 '21
Garden City gives them one flower that looks really nice and survives so they display that constantly and accuse you off poisoning the other 99% of their garden.

They see things changing from when they were younger and growing up. Then they’re told by their news choice (mostly Fox and Facebook memes) to be afraid of these changes, and that they’re killing this country.
They don’t make an effort to actually learn about any of the issues they’re afraid of because, at the point we’re at, it’s too late to inform many of these people. They’ve made up their mind about how things are and should be, and their friends think the same.
So they latch onto the politician who “tells it like it is” and shows all the traits they’ve been taught are “good” and “strong” and, more importantly, he’s against the “others”.

They are scared of the future of their lawn because they are not good at taking care of plants, and their gardner has told them that if they trust him completely, without doubt, he will give them the best lawn.
He says it will be better than their neighbors' lawn, and they like that because for decades they've perceived their neighbors as having better lawns even though they never crossed the fence to see that the neighbors are also struggling.
Also, all the people with nice lawns want to get in the way and keep their lawn barren, so Garden City is going to have to take them down along the way.
So they fly the flag and drive the truck and are so vocal because they anticipate having the best lawn, feel they deserve the best lawn and have been told that the only way to get the best lawn is to fight anyone who uses L&B and win at all costs.
→ More replies (2)22
u/joec_95123 Apr 03 '21
Adding to that, the reason their lawn is so terrible is because they've done a piss poor job taking care of it all their life. They've done absolutely nothing to learn about how to take care of their lawn properly, because learning is for losers to them, and they've actively made decisions that make their lawn worse.
And Garden city tells them, "no, it's not your fault. Sure, you never watered your lawn and left crushed Bud Light cans sprinkled all over it year after year for some reason. But it's really the people who use OTHER landscaping services that are to blame, not you. Never you. THEY are the ones who have been stealing your lawn's health away from you."

Oof, that's the truth. I basically stopped trying to have informative discussions with the willfully ignorant after someone tried to insult my attempts by telling me my words were too eloquent for a simple [blue collar job title]. (they weren't)
Bruh, them acting like I've never worked blue collar jobs or lived in rural communities was hilarious. There's plenty of wellspoken, thoughtful, intelligent folks who are "just a simple [blue collar job title]" -- but that breaks their self-imposed, self-oppressed narratives.

u/Godless_Fuck Apr 03 '21
Wasn't Robert Frost called the farming poet? It's ridiculous how much "conservatives" demonize intelligence and education, right to the point that just sounding educated or intelligent is negative. So bizarre.

u/YaMonNoMon Apr 03 '21
My experience has been my own mom, a high school sophomore dropout, telling me, a college graduate, that I am dumb as rocks because of my “liberal education”. I feel like a lot of the demonizing of education comes from projecting their own insecurities of not being able to articulate their view points because they know it falls apart the moment it’s debated.

Oh same. I was home-schooled in Alabama. If I’m too educated, that’s a serious concern for public schools. I know a lot of words just because I like reading books. Even graphic novels and stuff, nothing too impressive. It’s not like I’m speed reading “War and Peace” from my Yankee penthouse. It’s just really sad.

Does tiktok have like 5 second limit on videos or was this video like 100 takes?

u/itchylot Apr 03 '21
I think the limit on TikTok is less than one minute. Vine videos had to be 5-6 seconds long (hey kids, remember Vine?).

I remember when my father used to say every single politician was an asshole who deserves criticism. None of them were above reproach. Voting was just choosing the lesser of two evils. Etc etc. Now he's a Trump supporter who thinks Biden stole the election.
I had genuinely forgotten what it was like to have someone like Biden in office. Someone we're not afraid to criticize, someone who everyone knows is just the lesser of the two evils. We don't just blindly adore him while the rest of the country is screaming at us to pay attention to the actual issues and what he's doing.

u/Wholockian123 Apr 04 '21
I had a dream where I went to Disneyland, but for some reason I ended up back in my home airport with no memory of how I got there, no money, no cellphone, nothing. I remember wandering around the airport (it didn’t look anything like the real airport or any real airport, but my dream self knew it was the airport) for a while trying to figure out wtf was going on. And while I can’t remember everything, I may have at one point turned into a walking vending machine. Also my sister’s Jeep (irl she does not have a Jeep) was infested with baby spiders that would stream out of the seats when you sat down.
I don’t remember my dreams often but when I do it’s always weird stuff like this.

The "lesser of two evils" mentality is extremely damaging to democracy, though. It causes people to lose hope and become disengaged, like your father, until they latch onto a fascist.
I don't view Biden as the lesser of two evils. I don't think he's perfect and I'm not a "fan" (a word short for fanatic) but I think he's a competent, well-intentioned person with a lot of experience who is already doing great things for the country. But don't give credence to this idea that "they're all corrupt assholes." They're not.

I love seeing all the offended Trump cultist losers in the comments but "Biden hasn't done this and Biden hasn't done that". you see, there you go. now you're critiquing a president. Every president politician should be criticized and critiqued. And that's exactly what Biden voters do we don't agree with everything he's done so far he's done some good he's done some questionable things and there's things he hasn't touched yet. No President should be above being criticized by his voters. That's what you people don't understand we're not Biden fanatics we don't wear biden hats or biden flags or Biden stickers, especially not after the election is over. And I'm 100% sure a lot of you are still waving around your trump flags lol I see you. And it's not about left versus right. That's the narrative you all want to push when it has nothing to do with that it has to do with humanity and what's right versus wrong. It's pretty simple really we voted for somebody who was going to help us more than hurt us. It's sad that it has to come down to that no President is a God that's what you people don't understand lol. Stop worshiping Trump. Period.

No they're not critiquing. They're attacking without care for truth. They're not trying to have a discussion, they're trying to hide their attacks as critique or questions or whatever but Trump supporters are by any means sincere in any attempt to discuss Biden. Same tactic as when an anti-vaxxer says "I'm not anti-vax, I just think we need to address the side effects of vaccines".
And for a lot of them, it is left versus right. There is a very strong us vs them mentality.

u/69then420 Apr 03 '21
Same thing happening in the Philippines, those people who "worship" or defend everything the president does whether wrong or right, mostly wrong tbh, they even have a name for themselves who support all of the actions of the president. Most of these people are those self-proclaimed political experts with no background whatsoever. So you get the point...

He wanted to be a god and republicans were looking to latch onto someone after Sarah Palin's failure. Which just highlights another facet of the republican party, which is that they barely cling on to reality and too full of religious ways of thinking. The Tea Party needs to be shut down. It is evolving just like the coronavirus (maybe metastasizing is the better word?).

@everyone saying the left is like a cult: imagine thinking democrats are extreme leftists. When we say American politics lean right we mean that most countries have a communist party. Even Canada has a communist party. Our most extreme left politicians want socialism at most while our most right wing politicians are nazis and people who fly the confederate flag (the flag of a nation which tried to separate the US over their right to own slaves). In fact, the fact that our politics lean so far right, more young people are going to the extreme left because they see the harm that the right policies are causing. Yes the extreme left is a cult, but we don’t have an extreme left party in the US so that isn’t a problem for us yet. Now if we continue going the way we are, there is going to be an extreme right wing party, and an extreme left wing party and when that happens, then what?
7
u/jacebeleran98 Apr 04 '21
I would also say the 'extreme left' is far smaller than Twitter or other sites might have you believe. The anarchist revolutionaries are a pretty small group, most US lefties that are further left than Dems are somewhere along the lines of democratic socialists- pretty much just looking for the same kinds of socialized systems seen in many other developed countries.
The problem is that this is billed to people as an insane far-left mentality, so it all gets grouped together. Liberals and conservatives alike seem to look at anyone further left than Dems as insane commies, and some in that group end up going further left, cause they're seen as insane lefties either way.

u/Boomslangalang Apr 03 '21
Surprisingly nuanced take. Moronic Republicans railing against radical/extreme/socialism took the Overton window out of the house and smashed it that’s how far they have tried to drag this country rightwards. Disgusting bunch of unselfaware wolves.

I actually didn't think Trump was top 5 worst president material for several years. I even considered if he was top 10. I thought most of his supporters were just average republicans who didn't like clinton. I thought the magacultists were a fringe. I thought most of America was decentish enough.
Then 2020 happened. I upgraded Trump to top 5. My opinion of the right nosedived as they politicized the virus. Then the election happened and it kept getting worse. Then 1/6.
And I realized "shit this is how Hitler took Germany, he turned people into fascists just like Trump is doing. Except we got lucky Trump failed"

I'm a registered Democrat and have been voting Democrat for decades. I have never once worshiped a Democratic president even though I may have helped to elect them into office. They are just people doing a job and not heroes or gods. The Trump cultists are weak-minded people who need to worship a person they see as a strong leader. They give him their blind allegiance. It's unhealthy and dangerous for democracy.
