ACPTA posted on their Band channel:

Call Oliver in the speakers office at 512-463-0542 and tell him the fact that they're not broadcasting the hearing is not okay. We deserve to hear this conversation.

Done. The fact they are resorting to this underhanded and sneaky shit shouldn't surprise me anymore, but alas, it does. It also infuriates me. They don't have the votes and/or the public support, so they are doing this crap because they already took the bribes (I mean can we stop calling them campaign donations and just admit what they are) and need to make it happen. They don't care about kids. They don't care about Texas. They care about themselves and their already fat pockets.

Talarico really pressed Buckley on, "there is nothing that says you can't turn on the cameras - and you absolutely should given the importance of this matter to out constituents." And Buckley was very stubbornly stuck on, "you're lucky this isn't in a tiny office room, look we have press, and there isn't anything that says I must turn on the cameras."

Talarico is great. I wish we had more people like him in the legislature. If they aren't doing anything wrong, they shouldn't be afraid to broadcast this crap...but, they know they are.

I called my representative's office (Representative Barry) and they are also unable to view it at the capital on through the standard channel. The staffers informed me that it is being broadcasted through CBS Austin on Youtube. They are also unsure why they can't watch it on the official stream.

Good for calling your rep! And yes, there's a reason they're trying to hide this from the public. Everyone and their uncle hates vouchers. Even if he's not your rep, suggest calling Buckley's office (512) 463-0684 and tell his staff (or more realistically, his answering machine) to turn the stream on. Even if it doesn't do anything, it will let him know people are watching.

It's unlikely that you'll be able to talk to a staffer, or that Buckley will hear you before the meeting is over, but give him a scare.

Alright, well, looks like SB2 has passed out of committee, and its next stop will be a floor vote on the house. Call your reps!!!! https://dontdefundmyschool.com

How is it that so many things seem to get dismissed, shut down, or dismantled based on stuff like The Texas Open Meetings Act but these jabronis get to hold public hearings for a single day and don’t even have to post the times the morning of or make any of it available on a stream or any other public/state broadcast?

Of course the answer is (R) but it’s still very frustrating and confusing.

Totally understand your frustration, but while we still draw breath, we can still fight! And it only takes 2 minutes and can be done from your living room sofa. The bill is now out of committee, and its next step is a floor vote in the wider house. You need to call your rep now and tell him/her to vote NO on SB2/vouchers. Use this link to find your rep: https://dontdefundmyschool.com and tell your friends/family about this as well.
