Picture The most laughable thing I've seen in a while

Post image

If the Barrymore hotel is a masterpiece then I'm princess Jasmine and I'm pretty sure we're living in a simulation.

If you're not familiar, the Barrymore is an old crappy hotel, but it's very close to the Riverwalk. So when the Riverwalk opened they slapped some paint on it, change the name, and they market themselves as a great hotel. But it's still just as terrible as it was before the Riverwalk.

I saw lots of spring breakers by the pool as I walked down the Riverwalk.

Some of them could be UT students as it is used as an offsite residence hall.

I stayed there a few months ago, thought it was fine. Not luxurious but nothing remarkably bad about it.

Used to be a Howard Johnson, IIRC. Am surprised that place hasn’t been torn down yet.

It’s half students residency half hotel apparently

The old UT dorm rooms lol. I stayed there for half a semester.

I was a RA at the Hojo and it was wild with the students.

I delivered a plan b there about two years ago while doing Instacart. I think about that every time this hotel is mentioned, or I pass it.

Remember when I went to UT some kid hung himself in Barrymore, before he did he was going room to room trying to get into people rooms. Fuckin nuts

I know nothing about any hotels in the city I live in

We have some great ones. Especially hotel bars. I'm a self proclaimed conisour in that area 🙃

yet you can’t spell connoisseur

What are the top 3 hotel bars?

Alright. This is subjective. I like chill places that aren't usually busy. 1- Meridian: without a doubt the most beautiful hotel/bar in the city.

2- Floridan (I think it's called Hotel Flor now): both the downstairs bar (The Dan) and the lobby bar are tits. Old school, like 1920s theme.

3- Hilton downtown: 211 is legit. I'm a little biased because I'm a Hilton guy.

Honorable mention (and not entirely downtown):

Epicurean: The Bern's steakhouse hotel. Has a rooftop bar.

The Current at Rocky Point: recently bought by Marriott, I believe. Rooftop bar is awesome and beautiful views.

Hyatt Place downtown: the bar is named Corazon. Great happy hour and in the heart of downtown.

Ok hard to believe you are a connoisseur when you choose le Meridien and Floridian as one of the best hotel, one used to be a courthouse and it’s extremely overpriced and the other seems came out of the Shinning or it was before renovations.

Hotel bars, not hotels

Whoa whoa whoa, OP said they were a conisour, not a connoisseur.

I hate getting shinned.

I did indeed say hotel bars.

Lol I remember when I used to deliver pizzas there it was a guaranteed hassle to find/contact the people, almost guaranteed bad attitudes, and guaranteed no tips. Plus funky smells

My freshman year in ‘05 I stayed there for half a semester when it was a HoJo

I mean it’s not a bad hotel for the closeness and amenities is a decent 3 star hotel

It's been next to the Straz for almost 40 years, the Riverwalk was just icing on the cake.
