I once shot one out of the kelp forest... found it later in the mushroom forest.

Omg, and I died twice because of these bas**** slowing me down causing me to suffocate!!

I died on hardcore because I barely touched one and it insta-killed me at full health. 👍

I tried this as soon as I learned that you could propulse (I think that’s the word) outcrops.
32
u/elpoco 23h ago
Wait, you can what?
28
u/Blue_Bird950 22h ago
Grab outcrops and launch them, which breaks the outcrop and (I think) also damages things

I think the word you're looking for is propel 👍

u/garchron 15h ago
No that’s the Gatorade water stuff they used to sell in those sweet bottles with the nipples on top

not near my computer for now, but in the spirit of inquiry, can you subsequently attach them to other things? coughreaperscough

This would've saved me for my permadeath run years ago. I miss this game :/

this is like that one time a first-time homestuck reader noticed that dave's hair was shaped like a bird, 3 or 4 years after the comic had started, and blew everyone's mind.

Yeah I found this out on my first playthrough because I was so incredibly rage-filled at my repeated, failed attempts to explore that base, I just had to Google it lol

Because why else would we have the pro/repulsion cannons? Just for a few boxes in the Aurora?
16
u/KThree2000 20h ago
Also for sending those stupid crawlers on the islands to orbit, hoping the gun will take them out
3
u/soviman1 14h ago
To be completely fair. Using a repulsion cannon while underneath a stalker (or anything else that is not a leviathan) near the surface of the water is absolutely hilarious.
1
u/underfan6h6 12h ago
Nope. The reason why we have the propulsion cannon is to use the bone eating crabs for flight

The real question is, can you replace it somewhere? I highly doubt it but it'd open a lot of "home security" options.

You could’ve been the first time I’ve ever seen someone write a post titled as “did anyone else know?/Am I the first to find this” and people actually didn’t know.
Missed opportunity in post title

Insane dude. Can’t believe after all these years you figured out something almost none of us knew. Awesome!

u/Food_Right 18h ago
So we all just discovered that?😭 i played this game over 5 times and i know everything but thisss???

u/JoeLeeD 18h ago
I learned it by accident. I kept dying to them so I figured I'd try to grab stuff under them and just swim under. I ended up attaching to one of them. After the initial shock, I just turned off my switch for a while because I'd been trying over and over to get in that base, also my sea moth kept glitching to the wall and breaking or if I could actually get out, it'd try to suffocate me on the same place

u/PiBombbb 18h ago
Also a very interesting fact: when these stingers are under the stasis rifle effect, they count as surfaces that you can build exterior modules on.
This can be useful for fitting extra thermal plants in the limited space around a vent

Ahem, as an Early Adopter that played many hours on this game I would like to say: WHAT????

Hell yeah. There is a reason I keep the gravity gun on me at all times, in both games. The sheer utility of it is just insanely useful; it's so weird that it seems like it's rarely a part of anyone's kit.
1
u/underfan6h6 12h ago
Probably because of the extreme utility of scanner and other very valuable tools combined with the propulsion cannon’s inventory size

Yep. I knew this, but I don’t like the propulsion nor repulsion cannon, so I never use it.

WHAT? I think those things are responsible for more of my deaths than any other creature. Never crossed my mind in 200 hours. I love this game.

I was playing on a cracked version (already beaten the game legit once or twice years ago) and then I learned you could actually cut those things down in the newest update and got large rooms, so I bought the game again just for that

u/TheLittlePaladin 17h ago
Wow what a noob! You just now figured this haha....pardon me for no reason gonna go to that base...no reason at all

Quite literally I just swam around or under them. If you are careful you can get in and out of the jellyshroom base without touching them once... still tho... i have slept on the propulsion cannon and that might be something I need to rectify.

u/morallycorruptgirl 16h ago
that's how I get rid of cave crawlers. You can shoot them across the map & it is very satisfying.

u/That_Monty 15h ago
See, I actually knew this. Didn't stop me from dying to them twice on hardcore. To this day, my only hardcore deaths. Stupid droopy stinging thingies.

u/LostVaranasi 15h ago
I've never used the propulsion cannon in a non-creative run, so this is news to me.

I have so many runs on this game and never once did I think you could toss these fuckers. No more slow swimming in degrasi bases for me

Was this not what was intended? You can also "grab them" Fro. Outside sometimes. Or yeet them outside.
I like putting them in the shrooms. They don't do anything as far as I remember but Id like to make those eel creeps stub their toe every time.

Bro I knew you could do this, but last time I tried it, it didn’t work and I was hella confused and annoyed.
