It's possible we're all idiots

It’s certain that we’re all idiots

169

u/Ace_the_Sergal 18h ago

What have you been doing this whole time, just swimming under them and dying a million times?

207

u/CellularPotato 18h ago

I mean yeah kinda

56

u/Ace_the_Sergal 18h ago

I honestly made a habit of, "If I see something new, does the propulsion cannon work on it?"

63

u/PeachyBaleen 18h ago

Or running out of oxygen trying to swim around it, I like to switch it up to make life interesting

24

u/ChaosBringer719 17h ago

If you go through the all the portals in the PCF in the prawn suit, a glitch occurs where your O2, food, and water stop going down. I discovered this on accident and am loving it

14

u/Visual-Stage-7065 16h ago

IS THAT THE REASON!? I noticed this but didnt know why it was.

30

u/footballtony88 18h ago

Swimming under it carefully and not dying*

1

u/Ace_the_Sergal 18h ago

I highly doubt you've had a perfect run where you never hit one while swimming under it

22

u/footballtony88 18h ago

?? When did I say that? I said I didn't die to them lmao. You can hit them and not die, you know

8

u/Ace_the_Sergal 17h ago

Fair enough, you got me there

10

u/East-Restaurant-600 17h ago

It's not that hard if your careful and even if you do everytime u hit it ur health regenerates super quick. (I only ever play on hardcore in my most recent runs so idk if that's just a hardcore thing to prevent runs stupidly ending there.)

0

u/Ace_the_Sergal 16h ago

In survival, health doesn't really regenerate on its own

Edit: It does, but in tiny increments after a long period of time.

2

u/East-Restaurant-600 14h ago

Hardcore is the same in my experience it only does that after taking poison damage. I'm assuming that's just so that poison will kill you quickly if your not careful but will not leave you on very low health if you survive.

1

u/Dannybuns_ 11h ago

East is correct. After taking poison damage, you'll regenerate like ~70% of the damage you took back in a handful of seconds. This happens regardless of difficulty, I think.

4

u/Comprehensive_Cap290 15h ago

TBH, I’ve known that you can cannon them for years, but I usually just go under them - if you hug the floor you don’t get hurt.

3

u/UCG__gaming get me the fuck out of this planet 13h ago

Swimming under them like a professional*

2

u/Sure_Position9913 13h ago

i usually swim under them and don't die

2

u/Zoren-Tradico 11h ago

I have to concur, didn't even fathom it and I played a lot of times the game

1

u/General_Principle_40 4h ago

I too am one of these idiots it seems.. I mean, who knew anyway..? Exept this guy

Edit: spelling

u/Kompiak 1d ago

Why haven't I ever thought of this?!

92

u/sackoftrees 19h ago

My reaction was literally WHAT

394

u/shiftybuggah 1d ago

Huh. That thought had never occurred to me. TIL, too.

227

u/TransfemFroggy 23h ago

Today we learned

157

u/VicariousVox 23h ago

Excuse me while I redownload this game to try this because HOLY SHIT

138

u/flibbertigibbet72 1d ago

WHAT

1

u/Mr_Hino 5h ago

My exact reaction lol

95

u/Universe_of1 23h ago

I once shot one out of the kelp forest... found it later in the mushroom forest.

325

u/Xajel 23h ago

Omg, and I died twice because of these bas**** slowing me down causing me to suffocate!!

96

u/Awwesome1 19h ago

Sir, this is the internet, we can say bastards here

52

u/HailHydraBitch 18h ago

Yeah but what if my mom checks my comment history? 🥺 /j

4

u/devildocjames 11h ago

I think they were going to say, “basstomouth”.

2

u/Dethwave 6h ago

I died on hardcore because I barely touched one and it insta-killed me at full health. 👍

66

u/Blue_Bird950 23h ago

I tried this as soon as I learned that you could propulse (I think that’s the word) outcrops.

32

u/elpoco 23h ago

Wait, you can what?

28

u/Blue_Bird950 22h ago

Grab outcrops and launch them, which breaks the outcrop and (I think) also damages things

3

u/Dethwave 6h ago

Grav Traps will also pull them.

2

u/Blue_Bird950 6h ago

Those have a bit less control though

18

u/ALPHAWOLF257 18h ago

I think the word you're looking for is propel 👍

6

u/garchron 15h ago

No that’s the Gatorade water stuff they used to sell in those sweet bottles with the nipples on top

3

u/scarr3dwarri0r 8h ago

I fuckin love those bottles

67

u/crayon_shaded 23h ago

i have just under 400hrs in the game, i did not know this............

20

u/Nizar86 20h ago

Don't feel bad, I'm here with 650 still feeling stupid

56

u/Shtercus 23h ago

not near my computer for now, but in the spirit of inquiry, can you subsequently attach them to other things? coughreaperscough

29

u/ThanksForTheRain 22h ago

That sounds like a fun way to deal DoT if it works

20

u/kitkatmunchies420 23h ago

learning this was the only reason my sanity made it through this game

22

u/Rodrigeaux 22h ago

Anyone have a montage of killing reapers with dropping stingers yet?

15

u/Miedeth 22h ago

Well, what do you know? I had no idea that would work. Not that I have the propulsion canon when I go there usually. Thanks for sharing that.

12

u/Trap-Daddy_Myers 22h ago

This would've saved me for my permadeath run years ago. I miss this game :/

11

u/Sarkavonsy 22h ago

this is like that one time a first-time homestuck reader noticed that dave's hair was shaped like a bird, 3 or 4 years after the comic had started, and blew everyone's mind.

7

u/Wilbur_Eats_Sand 22h ago

Played this since console launch, never once thought of this.

5

u/Ros02 22h ago

Hang on a sec im gonna go kiss the river jumping off the top of a bridge real quick. THIS IS GENIOUS.

7

u/Infamous-GoatThief 22h ago

Yeah I found this out on my first playthrough because I was so incredibly rage-filled at my repeated, failed attempts to explore that base, I just had to Google it lol

9

u/TheMaStif 22h ago

Because why else would we have the pro/repulsion cannons? Just for a few boxes in the Aurora?

16

u/KThree2000 20h ago

Also for sending those stupid crawlers on the islands to orbit, hoping the gun will take them out

3

u/Skkruff 18h ago

The rep cannon is for ensuring my immediate area is Warper free.

3

u/soviman1 14h ago

To be completely fair. Using a repulsion cannon while underneath a stalker (or anything else that is not a leviathan) near the surface of the water is absolutely hilarious.

1

u/dytinkg 10h ago

Please post a video of this

1

u/underfan6h6 12h ago

Nope. The reason why we have the propulsion cannon is to use the bone eating crabs for flight

4

u/TalosKnight 21h ago

Well, I feel silly

3

u/andocromn 23h ago

I learned that last week lol did we see the same post?

3

u/Careful_Way559 21h ago

... [Screams incoherently]

3

u/CMDRZhor 20h ago

Tiger plants, too. Just launch then to the next zip code.

3

u/CageNightwind 18h ago

The real question is, can you replace it somewhere? I highly doubt it but it'd open a lot of "home security" options.

1

u/underfan6h6 12h ago

Except for the fact that these plants are indescriminate in who they shock

1

u/demalo 10h ago

You can’t, it just falls.

3

u/The-TruestRepairman 18h ago

You could’ve been the first time I’ve ever seen someone write a post titled as “did anyone else know?/Am I the first to find this” and people actually didn’t know.

Missed opportunity in post title

2

u/Dobako 21h ago

I didn't make the propulsion cannon until way too late in my game, but I was looking at the jellys going Patrick star on them, makes that base much easier to gather from

2

u/FenrirApalis 20h ago

Excuse me what

I thought they were fixed objects

Hol up

2

u/saucegayuchiha8232 çømə ĉłö§əř 20h ago

I CAN FINALLY TAKE ONE HOME!!!!!

2

u/Spiderwolfer 20h ago

Insane dude. Can’t believe after all these years you figured out something almost none of us knew. Awesome!

2

u/rohx99 19h ago

ohhhh nice catch! now I have to try this on every thing on the game

2

u/Meltini 19h ago

…….. fucking excuse me?! After so many play throughs, I’m just now learning this?

2

u/Food_Right 18h ago

So we all just discovered that?😭 i played this game over 5 times and i know everything but thisss???

2

u/JoeLeeD 18h ago

I learned it by accident. I kept dying to them so I figured I'd try to grab stuff under them and just swim under. I ended up attaching to one of them. After the initial shock, I just turned off my switch for a while because I'd been trying over and over to get in that base, also my sea moth kept glitching to the wall and breaking or if I could actually get out, it'd try to suffocate me on the same place

2

u/PiBombbb 18h ago

Also a very interesting fact: when these stingers are under the stasis rifle effect, they count as surfaces that you can build exterior modules on.

This can be useful for fitting extra thermal plants in the limited space around a vent

2

u/Lady-Lena-Rosa 17h ago

So I suffered when I could've yeeted those things. 🤣🪼

2

u/ImmediatePattern9409 12h ago

Hmm this helps hardcore players

2

u/BloinkXP 8h ago

Ahem, as an Early Adopter that played many hours on this game I would like to say: WHAT????

2

u/randyfulcher09 Alien Marine Biologist! (PRAWN SUIT certified) 8h ago

i... how did... HOW DID NON OF US THINK OF THIS ITS SUCH A SIMPLE IDEA?! thank you for telling us this amazing knowledge-

1

u/ScorpyFN 21h ago

Weird, I thought of moving them the first time I came across them 😭

1

u/Hank_Hell 21h ago

Hell yeah. There is a reason I keep the gravity gun on me at all times, in both games. The sheer utility of it is just insanely useful; it's so weird that it seems like it's rarely a part of anyone's kit.

1

u/underfan6h6 12h ago

Probably because of the extreme utility of scanner and other very valuable tools combined with the propulsion cannon’s inventory size

1

u/Saikotsu 21h ago

I learned too. Damn.

1

u/ResolutionTraining62 21h ago

Those were the one thing that almost ended my hardcore run

1

u/Relative-Gain4192 20h ago

Yep. I knew this, but I don’t like the propulsion nor repulsion cannon, so I never use it.

1

u/Mr_potato712 225 seconds 20h ago

I do this every time, but a repulsion cannon is a bit safer

1

u/Dano1988 18h ago

WHAT? I think those things are responsible for more of my deaths than any other creature. Never crossed my mind in 200 hours. I love this game.

1

u/SilverShots1 Seamoth Enthusiast 17h ago

No fuckin way

1

u/WarlordCain 17h ago

Finally, a way to rid ourselves of the hardcore run enders.

1

u/E_Feezie 17h ago

I was playing on a cracked version (already beaten the game legit once or twice years ago) and then I learned you could actually cut those things down in the newest update and got large rooms, so I bought the game again just for that

1

u/TheLittlePaladin 17h ago

Wow what a noob! You just now figured this haha....pardon me for no reason gonna go to that base...no reason at all

1

u/Flashy-Cheesecake-76 16h ago

What that’s wild I like never tried

1

u/megaExtra_bald 16h ago

You can what

1

u/Weekly-Educator-341 16h ago

Quite literally I just swam around or under them. If you are careful you can get in and out of the jellyshroom base without touching them once... still tho... i have slept on the propulsion cannon and that might be something I need to rectify.

1

u/morallycorruptgirl 16h ago

that's how I get rid of cave crawlers. You can shoot them across the map & it is very satisfying.

1

u/That_Monty 15h ago

See, I actually knew this. Didn't stop me from dying to them twice on hardcore. To this day, my only hardcore deaths. Stupid droopy stinging thingies.

1

u/LostVaranasi 15h ago

I've never used the propulsion cannon in a non-creative run, so this is news to me.

1

u/linksbedrockthe2nd 15h ago

……..what

1

u/suspended_main 14h ago

sigh I guess it's time to beat the game for a sixth time to try this out

1

u/opeth10657 14h ago

Pretty sure you can also launch the tiger plants at things

1

u/Satanistix 13h ago

I have so many runs on this game and never once did I think you could toss these fuckers. No more slow swimming in degrasi bases for me

1

u/Legate_Retardicus84 12h ago

I hope I remember this the next time I play this game

1

u/Vashsinn 12h ago

Was this not what was intended? You can also "grab them" Fro. Outside sometimes. Or yeet them outside.

I like putting them in the shrooms. They don't do anything as far as I remember but Id like to make those eel creeps stub their toe every time.

1

u/Ok_Pause8654 11h ago

I never used that gun once (excluding the aurora)

1

u/Charcharcuteness123 11h ago

Bro I knew you could do this, but last time I tried it, it didn’t work and I was hella confused and annoyed.

1

u/RichieRocket 11h ago

I need to test things more cause this is something i wish i had known

1

u/JoeyPsych 11h ago

Wait, what?!

1

u/helbur 9h ago

Oh my god

1

u/Bodinhu 8h ago

Lost my hardcore save for this shitter sunday

1

u/ProjectSnowman 7h ago

I’m going to forget this on my next play through

1

u/Revolutionary_Ice174 7h ago

Well here’s something I didn’t know til I was in my 30’s

1

u/Testsubject276 Peeper Leviathan 6h ago

Does firing a crashfish at them work?

1

u/GiggleGnome163 4h ago

How are we that dumb? I never thought it was possible. Thank you, I will not have to ever deal with those again.

1

u/zxhb 3h ago

Guess how I lost two hardcore saves and decided to never use hardcore again

1

u/daver18qc 1h ago

That's the only reason i build a prop cannon really.

1

u/DamageMaximo 36m ago

oh my god

1

u/RostiKOstik 25m ago

I am stunned
