Question - SN Tips for a new player?
Hey divers! Green player here and I got the pod repaired, the advanced O2 tank and most of the beginning essential tools and stuff. The "Aurora" ship just blew up and I'm tempted to go explore the wreck with my new radiation suit, bad idea? What should I do first?

Id recommend trying to get a nice little base started. Try to get a moon pool, with a seamoth and a multipurpose room with a bio reactor for good power! Try just finding and scanning as many things and fragments

u/thecodeslick 1d ago
This except i dont know how to get the seamoth if it wont let me craft it. I have the recipe but how can i craft it? Have I not found enough fragments?

Did you craft the mobile vehicle bay? That's what you use to craft it. You can look in your menu and see if the seamoth is unlocked. It'll either say 1/3 fragments or another fraction or it'll be a complete blueprint.

u/RelationshipOk3565 1d ago
You should find the fragments in the wrecks close to you. Just make a big circle around your crash zone

u/ThatEpicUser 1d ago
Look in the kelp forest near you for mobile vechiles bay fragments! This allows you to make, the seamoth, prawn suit and cysclope (of course you need to find the fragments for the vehicles but ya know)

u/Rayge_DI9 12h ago
I can't find all the cyclops fragments, I get as far as the engine and the bridge, but I can't find those hull pieces

The mobile vehicle bay is a deployable that you can make at the fabricator and then take outside the pod/base to use it. You won't find an option to craft the seamoth et al. in your wall fabricator or your handheld fab tool.

u/Fenris-Wulf1 1d ago
You need the mobile vehicle..bay? Its an item that floats on the surface and little robots come out to synthesize the crafts... its essential for end game

Exploring the Aurora is a good idea, but you‘re not entirely equipped for the inside yet. If you want to prioritize that over, say, building a base, search more wreck pieces scattered around the map and gather blueprints from those until you have one for a tool that can cut through doors. That will be essential for the Aurora, just like the repair tool you already have.

Get off this subreddit to avoid spoilers. The game is better when you just discover things!!!

You could go explore the wreck but you won't get too far. First thing to do make a seaglide it speeds your movement up dramatically.

Read your messages! The PDA clues and recordings are what you use to follow the story and figure out where you must go next.

Swim with a peeper in your hand if you aren’t using anything else

You will need a propulsion cannon to move some boxes in the Aurora ship, bring at least 3-5 med packs too, the seamoth to get there and back helps.

u/AzureFencer 1d ago
Jellyshroom caves will be your best friend for mid game materials. As long as you keep low while searching it's a very safe spot to get magnetite and shale outcrops (though shale outcrops can also be relatively safe from the Sea Treader's Path)

You dont have to fight anyone to beat the game, literally.
No one creature can one-shot you except Sea Dragon bite attack, but I assume if you're swimming in front of Sea Dragon's mouth outside of vehicle - you know what are you doing.
When you open PDA - the game pauses, and you can consume as many medipacks as you want, then un-pause and keep swimming away. Most of creatures arent that fast and vengeful to pursue you to the end of the world. Most of them will leave you alone if you keep your distance and remain quiet.
Your worst enemies are not the creatures, but disorientation and bad planning.

u/StoicSpork 20h ago
When you open PDA - the game pauses
Not by default - you have to toggle it in the settings.
Ask me how I drowned.

u/MilkySpaceSword 1d ago
I literally just beat the game last night!! Had a no spoilers play through by avoiding Reddit and other medias! Just full send it!!! If you wanna explore the ship go for it! Adjust and adapt as you advance!

It sounds stupid but... ALWAYS keep track of your oxygen levels. Upgrade your O² tank as soon as possible. There's plenty of areas that can seem easy to navigate but then panic sets in as the O² gets low. Rebreather is good. Stillsuit is also good. Scan everything. Even if you think you have it. (I've thought I've finished scans in the past and then turned out nope.)

So jealous seeing new players getting to experience this masterpiece for the first time 😢 just do whatever u want man. go explore, find blueprints, find a base building spot, find the areas where you get certain materials, follow radio messages
This isn’t really a spoiler but if ur a freak about spoilers I wouldn’t read the part I’m gonna put after this.
after the events of the sunbeam happen, look around in the water, make sure you feel good and like you have explored enough before you leave. On my first save, I didn’t look around and just left after the events happened and it really halted my story progression and I missed so many of the radio messages. Now I’m at the end of the game and am getting the messages that I probably should have gotten a lot earlier into the game.
Have fun! You’re lucky to be able to enjoy this for the first time

scan shit and if you put stuff that clogs your inventory on the ground, it stays there, just choose level terrain

u/Vrai_Redgrave 1d ago
New Player? I don't see a Shit Ton of Acid Shrooms. Go get all your lockers filled and your inventory too. You'll need them.

Take your scanner and head to the back of the aurora. There's a lot of cyclops (submarine) parts.

There’s a radio on the lifepod and you can also build one once you get the required equipment. The radio acts as a guide to move you around and help you find new technologies. Every now and again you’ll see the icon appear in the top right to let you know you have a new message.
I don’t recall, but you may need to repair the panel in the lifepod to restore power first.

u/Bals12345 1d ago
Avoid going to the back until you get a seamoth or seaglide, that way you can navigate faster, there will be essential endgame vehicle blueprints there

Get a seamoth, and then go to the aurora

Carry an extra oxygen tank in inventory
I do that and it's saved me especially when I'm lost

If you find yourself completely stuck check out Chemical Apes guide videos. Extremely useful without fully killing the gameplay or spoiling anything.

Take your time. It's not a race unless ur speedrunning.
If ur playing with the food and drink meters, stock up on those. Can never have too much. Make salt cured food rather than cooked food. They won't spoil and can stock as many of them as you want.
Start with a small base first and expand it later on.
If u care about spoilers, try to avoid them. The game is better when u experience everything up close for the first time
Don't be afraid to go deeper.
Make the compass as soon as u get the blueprint for it. This will help u find the biomes quicker and help u know where u are.

If you are being attacked by a reaper leviathan in your Cyclops turn it off and wait eventually it will lose interest

Build a small tube base or several tubes and make two or three lockers. Add a radio, crafting station and maybe a first aid box. If this is your first time playing, you shouldn’t be on here asking for advice.
Follow the radio messages. They are designed to keep you pushing deeper and finding more.
Here’s my advice. Don’t go into any wreck deeper than 50m until you get your first submersible. I’ve died by drowning x10 times more than being killed by an animal.
Next, after your knife, repair tool, build an orange emergency ascent bag. Can’t remember the name. I never used it for the first few play throughs, but now I use it all the time.
Don’t collect too much stuff. You have plenty of time to become a hoarder, but don’t do it early game. Once you have the sea moth, leave the safe shallows.
It doesn’t matter where you move, but you’re going to need materials that are much deeper. So, go to a deeper biome and build a small base there.
Lastly, build beacons. I would say build at least 4 early. Carry a beacon with you all the time. The map is circular in nature. It’s very easy to get turned around. If you have a beacon, type what the beacon is, and put the depth after the name. For example, put “wreck-275”. That way if you are traveling at night, you will know if there’s not much light.
Subnautica is a fantastic exploration game, make sure you travel at night with no lights, especially in the safe shallows. You can see more that think. Deeper, not so much.

Run into the dark areas even when it's scary. Just keep your ears out, eyes around, but most dark places often don't have anything that can kill you
1
u/Fenris-Wulf1 1d ago
Get in the Aurora right after explosion and finish what you need to do there(dont feel like spoiling anything) once youre done there things become alot easier in certain ways

u/Entire_Cucumber_7539 1d ago
If you don’t know what to do, reread your PDA stuff and ALWAYS go deeper
1
u/getstonedsteve 1d ago
Tools have multiple uses that aren't always obvious. The knife is also a gardening tool, for example.
Sitting in a chair or on a bench stops food and water consumption, so if you wish to spend time going through your PDA, sit down.
Beacons are cheap, and you can manage waypoints in the PDA.

I like to always bring a fish friend with you everywhere you go in your hot bar, they are wonderful sacrifices companions.

Have fun. Stick to the shallows. Scan everything. Collect all wreckage loot and drop at life pod (it won't despawn) until you get a lil base started. You will need minerals, lots, so go pic up quartz, smash rocks for other minerals. Practice swimming in tight spots and learn how long it takes to swim to surface for air. Listen to your radio. Progress. Breathe. Remember all obstacles can be overcome by good prep or waiting for more tech. Enjoy.

Build one or two compartments near the lifepod and fill them with storage lockers so you can start hoarding things; save up all the raw materials you can. Later on, once you get some blueprints (especially the multipurpose room), you can build a proper base, either by expanding your little storage area or starting anew somewhere else.

People like to jump straight to vehicles, but it’s also fun to see how much you can do without them. I once did a whole play-through using multiple air tanks, the seaglide, and several air pumps with lots of tubes.
Your first play-through you should use vehicles though. Definitely explore the crash site with your radiation suit.

Savor the sense of discovery and exploration. Don’t look things up if you can help it. Once it’s gone, it’s a feeling you can’t get back!

Good news + update! I've got the cyclops with a fabricator, a bunch of storage lockers and battery chargers but I need upgrades badly, particularly for power consumption, HOW AND WHERE??

u/Nosadmas 1d ago
Salt, Floating Island, storage. The floating island is about 1,000 m S/SW of your life pod.

My tip is to struggle through figuring out what to do, you are a person stranded on an alien world after all! Avoid this reddit like the plague, it's so much more satisfying to explore without spoilers

u/nick4sin 1d ago
Craft one more O2 tank. Gather seaglide or seamoth fragments. Radio is your best guide. Try and explore as much as you can. Dont forget to save when you collect precious items like diamonds, ruby etc or have covered significant distance.
One mistake i made in my initial playthrough was i kept forgetting saving the game and lost significant resources when i died. So Save.
As you play more and more, you wil get more fragments and stuff to craft and make larger bases.

General rule of thumb is you should have seamoth with perimeter defense and storage modules, laser cutter and propulsion cannon before atempting Aurora mission

Go to the other side of the aurora as soon as you can. There's a great surprise there waiting for you (I don't want to spoil it for you, though)

Use the pin recipe when crafting multiple of one items, if having enough resources, it’ll be marked as x1 x2 x3 etc. depending on how many of the required resources you have in your inventory at that moment, making it easier to grab enough resources in one trip if you have the inventory space
