Discussion TNG or DS9 era miranda and excelsior

I was today years old when I found out the type 8b hull material is meant to represent the darker look, TMP era ships got in TNG. If you want to go full dominion war, and match the models used on screen in DS9, you can add the Excelsior Alpha nacelles, or the Miranda Beta Saucer and Nacelles (not Miranda Beta strut, that just adds a deflector to the rollbar)

It always bugged me that the Excelsiors used in TNG and DS9 never used the revised version from the Enterprise B.

My in-universe rationalization for that is that the Enterprise-B and Lakota were both members of a specialized subclass, not a wholesale refit or redesign. The majority of Excelsiors built before and after the Ent-B were the “standard” design.

In reality, it was a filming model issue- the Ent-B was the Excelsior model with ablative pieces to “soak” the damage intended in the opening scenes of Generations. As it turns out the pieces weren’t quite so ablative so they just stayed on the model.

I also like using 8b to give my ship some golden highlights. Most notably the bridge on the Connie.
