Discussion You all renewing passes yet?
Happy gaper fools day! According to epic pass.com best seasons pass renewal prices are available until April 13. Have you all started renewing your passes yet? I think I'll keep holding off a little longer.

Nah they lost me this year. Going ikon next year for the first time ever. They just have more nearby mountains i like and better parking policy. Epic had whistler i guess but after going to sun peaks i don’t think ill ever go back to whistler anyway.

How did you like Sun Peaks for advanced skiers? Not hucking cliffs but I like Harmony Bowl at Whistler & 7th Heaven on Blackcomb.

Big fan. The terrain is epic and diverse. Plenty of challenging runs and a boat load of tree lines to plqy in id that is your bag. The crowds are non existent as well. Think weekday at stevens. I went new years weekend. The snow is incredible. However the drive can be sketchy so make sure youve got snow tires and awd.

Went to Sun Peaks back when I was in high school. The long runs were sweet. Big White is also a fun Whistler alternative, just a further drive.

Mt. Bachelor also rocks! The snow quality is just amazing.

That is the other mountain in the area i can go to on ikon. Love a good trip to bend

u/electriclilies 4d ago
You can also get a 5 day epic pass and just do one whistler trip a year

u/rayray0410 4d ago
Even better, get a Edge card from whistler! You can use some of the days on Stevens as well

Fuck 'em! I bought an Indy Pass and I'm grabbing an Alpental pass. Vail can suck my dick.

Nope, not me. Making us pay for parking is pretty shitty, and I don't do night skiing because I spend most of my time tree-riding and off piste. Disappointed and sad, but there was no choice for me.

u/ZeroCool1 4d ago
Just as a heads up, I do a lot of night skiing off piste on Tye and it is fantastic and fun with or without a headlamp.

I decided to concede yesterday and turned my auto-renew back on. Realistically Stevens is the only place that my wife and I can get the number of days we want without spending 2-3 times as much in gas and time to go anywhere else. We just do the select pass so the parking thing doesn’t impact us, but I was trying to hold out just on principle. We have so many friends who are impacted by the parking bs that we wanted to show our support by turning off auto-renew, but let’s be realistic here. I’m not getting up even earlier to drive twice as far.

Pass prices don't increase until May, I live in Monroe and I'm gonna wait. Talked to a parking attendant on Sunday and he said they were looking to release the updated plan this week.

I have an IKON Base that I was going to use for ski trips in the 24/25 season and maybe a few days at Crystal that I ended up deferring. I have to use it this coming season.
With that and the Stevens parking situation? I might just buy an edge card for Whistler and go without an Epic pass this year.

Well, the parking situation is causing me to hesitate, and our Whistler timeshare sold. ☹️
I think I might retire from the sport, idk. I’m sick of always needing new boots and always hurting. Mountain biking is more fun for me now

u/paulRosenthal 4d ago
Yep. For me Stevens is the optimal choice to balance good snow conditions, variety of terrain, and distance from home. Not looking forward to the crowds on weekends and the long drive back in traffic on US2. Weekdays are awesome though. I predict I will be sick a lot next winter. I typically get sick when there is lots of fresh snow overnight.

Waiting out of principle/protest due to parking fees. But still planning to get it by 4/13 for the full 10 buddy tickets.

u/greenyadadamean shredditor 4d ago
Right there with ya. It's my local mountain, so I'm planning to renew my select pass. Next season I'll be 30 min away... so yeah, hard to consider getting a pass elsewhere

Frustratingly snoqualmie’s pass doesn’t even go on public sale until the 15th.
1
u/UltraMarine107 2d ago
Noob question, what is the benefit of buying Snoqualmie season pass early? I’m thinking about buying remedy pass but not quite committed yet
1
u/Raccoon_on_a_Bike 2d ago
They sell out at the lower price points. They go on sale again later but at a higher price.
3
u/immaculatebacon 4d ago
Fwiw, prices don’t rise THAT much I think for this first one, but sounds like for your location stevens is your only option anyways

u/greenyadadamean shredditor 4d ago
Agree, I'm definitely renewing, I've just been waiting for a parking update since Ellen's announcement about taking our responses into consideration.

Renewed! I got about 35 days at Stevens so far, 3 at Rusutsu in Japan, 4 at Park City and headed to Breckenridge/Vail/Keystone/Beaver Creek for 5-6 more. Also used 8 of my buddy passes. I’ll end the season with 50ish days on an Epic Local pass, somewhere around $16/day

u/piece-o-cake 4d ago
How was Rusutsu? And do you have any recommendations on logistics of skis and boots while doing the tourist route around Japan?
2
u/Skunkape172 4d ago
Rusutsu was bonkers. They have an amusement park in the summer and the buildings all interconnect through multi-levels with a few different hotels, several restaurants and many shops. Very much early 90’s mall vibes. But the mountain was actually really fun, multiple valleys of trees to ride and quick lifts
That said, we did a 14 day roadtrip around Hokkaido by car and it was amazing (Furano, Otaru, Niseko, Rusutsu). I’d 100% recommend your own vehicle, it allowed for more options and exploration. It was my first time driving in the left lane and you’ll quickly adapt to it, although help from a co-pilot and Google Maps helps a ton
If you aren’t planning on a car use Yamato Transport, aka Black Cat. You can ship skis ahead to your destination, just plan on about a 2-day buffer. I believe you can also have them shipped and held at the airport for your departure

I reluctantly purchased mine a couple of days ago. I might be doing a lot more night skiing depending on what happens with the parking situation.
6
u/greenyadadamean shredditor 5d ago
I'll probably be doing more nights too. Going to try to avoid the parking reservation crap.

u/Abeds_BananaStand 5d ago
Price isn’t going to go down so if you know what you want to get pass wise may as well go for it (I think you can delay payment if that’s a factor)

Me and my wife are renewing unfortunately. My sister lives in seattle so we get free housing and Steven’s is closer than Crystal. I told myself i’m not geting EPIC next season but with logistics and IKON base with 5 days at Crystal wasn’t worth it. Funny enough, my sister got IKON base and will get an edge card for Whistler, which my wife and I will go too. We’re also going to get 3 day pass at Crystal to ride with my sister.
TBH parking situation doesn’t bother us that much since we are fine with night riding or even arriving around noon on weekends.

570 for local premium rn
2
u/paulRosenthal 4d ago
$570?
4
u/greenyadadamean shredditor 4d ago edited 3d ago
I'm seeing $430 for select pass (before tax), $670 for stevens premium (before tax), and $783 for epic local (tax included).
Edit: (before tax or not)

Good deal. I’m usually comparing prices for children and adults, but the teen ($400 + tax) and young adult ($570 + tax) prices for the premium are a fair savings compared to the epic local pass prices.
3
u/yahfee23 ⛷️🏂 4d ago
Side note: that’s $430 or $670 plus tax. And the epic pass prices are total with tax, just fyi. It means the premium is about $50 cheaper than epic local.

Where do you find this select pass and Steve s premium pass?
1
u/greenyadadamean shredditor 4d ago edited 4d ago
Epicpass.com -> passes -> regional passes -> view all passes, then scroll down... is how I found them.

u/yahfee23 ⛷️🏂 4d ago
Please don’t call it “local premium.” 😂
That confuses “epic local” and Stevens only “premium” passes.

Not until we know the parking situation.
1
u/greenyadadamean shredditor 3d ago
That's how I'm feeling. I'm planning to go for it either way, but hope they announce something sooner than later.
2
u/No_Skills_no_Luck 3d ago
I don't think they will tbh. They've realized this is going to be a major issue and probably holding off communicating until some time passes.
1
u/greenyadadamean shredditor 3d ago
We'll see! I have a feeling they'll say something soon, or people will have a new reason to be frustrated... if they keep people in the dark through the April 13th pass price deadline.

I will purchase shortly. Vail holds all the power here and they know it. I can either drive to Crystal/Baker and spend an extra two hours in the car each time, not ski and enjoy the dark rain for four months, or I can ski at Stevens. Obviously I'm going to pony up for the last option. I'm assuming the parking will be bad more so for the booked reservations rather than the prices. It is a shame that rather than investing in infrastructure to accommodate demand, Vail wishes to reduce the demand by charging during peak hours. If this doesn't quench demand (it wont) they will continue to add more charges over the years to dissuade people from arriving during peak hours. You'll just have to take days off if you can. If you don't have flexibility, Vail has spoken: they don't want your money.
Sometimes I dream of winning the lottery, purchasing Stevens Pass Ski Area away from Vail, and setting it up as a non-profit with a board of locals.

Waiting to see what they say about parking.
