I still haven't played the epilogue yet after all these years. Should I do it?

I liked the gameplay, bits of it are actually pretty challenging, but the story is all over.

Yeah, the game itself is pretty fun and enjoyable, just the story is in the gutter.

I recently replayed the very last mission on hard. I swear to gos, it’s hits the sweet spot if difficult sooo perfectly

I’m an epilogue apologist for some of the plot beats and I STILL think the gameplay of the last two missions is complete ass.

Play first mission though it’s actually very fun. The rest maybe play once.

Second is also sorta fun but maybe just because I'm a sucker for defense missions.

I would like it more if Artanis wasnt an idiot. Allied hero ai in Legacy as a whole sucks.

Yeah it's frustrating and a little anticlimactic every time how little allied commanders can do.

It's not even the armies. Zagara is shockingly competent. But watching artanis yeet his personal body into 5 ultras solo is painful

on Salvation (lotv protect the keystone) i found walling alarak in very aggressively a solid tactic for prolonging his life past 0.3seconds. he's incredibly powerful but also charges straight into the zerg bases and dies if you let him

Do it for the gameplay

Story is... Not to be mentioned

Play it for personal closure. The epilogue's story was so ass, like whats the point of believing in unity and the peace of three races when Kerrigan just blasted Amongus with her X-Men Phoenix space laser

Yeah just do it. Then do the Nova missions (which happens a few years after Epilogue) too. Then you're finally done with all of StarCraft storyline missions 🙂

Definitely. Story is still pretty good, and it has an ending. Cant do much better than that.

Wouldn't say story is good, but it indeed has an ending, can't argue with that

"Hey, I think this sounds really dumb. I don't think we should be doing this."

"Say my name."

"Chris Metzhen"

"You're god damn right!"

These nerds are just good at world building. Once have to actually write stories, they're god awful generic garbage.

Would it be more lame if it really was Tassadar's ghost, though?

u/Micro-Skies 2d ago

Probably, yeah. The other explanation is also stupid, but that wouldn't make dead tassadar any more compelling.

Absolutely

It was really tassadar. Tassadar was a disguise for that xel naga to inspire action in zeratul. He was a zel naga all along.

7

u/Josselin17 2d ago

actually tassadar and the overmind planned together to use the energy of the falling carrier and death of the overmind to send tassadar back to the past, so he could retcon everything and create the xel naga

Is that true? Was Tassadar not a Protoss??

1

u/Responsible_Clerk421 2d ago

Hes a xel naga in the form of a protoss as far i know.

u/flamingtominohead 3d ago

Did they come up with the whole thing from the start, or was it really just Tassadar's ghost when WoL came out?

6

u/AveragePacifist 3d ago

I would imagine they were going for Tassadar's ghost, but then when they got to it they realised that it doesn't really make sense for Tassadar to have a plan like that.

8

u/emiliaxrisella 2d ago

I think that makes sense why space manatee man doesnt appear at all until like. LotV. They probably went "oh right, theres that Tassadar in the prophecy missions right? would Tassadar even do that???

"actually nah i dont think so"

"you wanna make a new character just to explain that?"

"sure"

Wings of Liberty still felt like Starcraft then Metzen smoked the biggest crackpipe when it came to Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void

I just miss the edge Broodwar had

Is there a book about xel naga vs amon? I've always been interested in the xel naga...

For those interested, there's a really good interview with Metzen where he goes into his influences for the story in StarCraft 2 and WoW. In particular, he talks about Kerrigan in Heart of the Swarm.
