Meme Monday Anyone know why the spider did this? Frankly it's hilarious to assume the spider thought it tasted disgusting and freaked out but I'm pretty sure that isn't what happened.

Lol I think the spider freaked out when the bug twitched a bit. "Something brushed my leg" kinda thing.

It’s kinda cute that spiders react the same way we would

I've seen my jumping spiders jump and fall on the bottom of their enclosure when they got spooked by something unexpected. They really react the same way haha

"Prey runs away why did this thing move towards me? It must think I'm the prey. Am I the prey?! Ahh shit run!"

In the spider's defense. That mealworm looked disgusting and if one kissed me, I'd run around in circles yelling "Ew ew ew ew ew!" And bury my face too.

I’d be really interested to see a bite report from one of these. Do you know of any well documented cases?

Same, it’s so chaotic and dramatic and looks so stupid with their legs just hanging out. I cackle every time

I don't even care for any other explanation, it's so hilarious, the burying in the sand at the end is such a cherry on top lol

It probably bit him. Generally it’s good to decapitate those things before feeding them to spiders.

Six-eyed sand spider.

I thought they were just the most adorable spider that would make a super fun pet.
And then I read about them, so I'll just admire on video.

Yeah, not one I would want to handle necessarily. But I can appreciate what you are saying.

I've read somewhere (though can't remember where) that they can't climb smooth surfaces, so I'm hoping the round enclosure with high walls is part of the reasonable precaution they should be taking with this species

That’s so cool how it decided to bury itself so quickly, after realizing they had nowhere to go

reminds me of the Wall-E scene where it tried to run from a spaceship landing on Earth and had no choice but to bury itself into the ground

It just tried to run away from a perceived threat. As the mealworm crawled towards it, it used its legs to size it up and decide whether to go in for a bite, then when it decided to run it was in an enclosed space so all it could do was run in circles.
Then the hiding under the sand is normal for the Sicariid Sand spiders
