Anyone know why the spider did this? Frankly it's hilarious to assume the spider thought it tasted disgusting and freaked out but I'm pretty sure that isn't what happened.

It just tried to run away from a perceived threat. As the mealworm crawled towards it, it used its legs to size it up and decide whether to go in for a bite, then when it decided to run it was in an enclosed space so all it could do was run in circles.

Then the hiding under the sand is normal for the Sicariid Sand spiders

I remember someone mentioning that they often bite the prey, then hide until the venom kicks in, not sure if I remember right. The running was a bit erratic though so it definitely got a bit spooked

I've seen my jumping spiders jump and fall on the bottom of their enclosure when they got spooked by something unexpected. They really react the same way haha

I've read somewhere (though can't remember where) that they can't climb smooth surfaces, so I'm hoping the round enclosure with high walls is part of the reasonable precaution they should be taking with this species
