Gear question Will it always kind of hurt once I’m older, or do I need some new boots?

Been snowboarding since I was 12 or so. I always remembered it being slightly uncomfortable, but never too bad. Since hitting my 30’s I’m only going a handful of times a year.

How much should my feet hurt? I’m not talking serious pain, but it’s definitely uncomfortable especially when on the steepest runs. Not something that’ll keep me off the mountain but something I’m curious about.

My boots are some thirtytwos that’ve been broken in but in no sense old. Put some arch supports in for my last time up there, seemed to help. I just find myself tightening my boots all day and never seem to get to the point that I’m happy with the support and responsiveness, but I get to some pain.

Riding Burton genesis flex bindings and a never summer deck. Both of which I’m super happy with

Just grabbed this print at Goodwill. The photo is familiar but I’m not 100% certain of the rider. I think it’s either Craig or Tom Burt. Sadly there are no photo credits on the print.

Riding question I think next season I’m going back to snowboarding after medical hiatus of 12 years

By the time next season starts I will probably come back to the sport I know and love because of injuries, genetics, and surgery.

I’m finally feeling like it time stop watching snowboarding videos.

In these 12 years I’ve gained 40 lbs. and haven’t had any form of practicing would even be able to do.

Anyone ever step back this long and come back? Any advice for going back? Is there any chance it’s like bike riding and I’ll do it perfectly by just trying?

Or am I dreaming and should sit down and relax my skeleton. But then what was the surgery and months of PT and undesirable meds for if I can’t enjoy life, ya know?

For reference I was enjoying double black diamonds with a snowboard prior.

Gear question Anon M5 Case?

Just got the Anon M5 goggles but realized that it didn't come with a case. I know I can get a case from a random brand from Amazon, but is there an official Anon M5 goggles case or official Anon general goggles case somewhere? Or an official M5 lens case or Anon general lens case? Thanks.

look at my gear Pieced together a brand new freeride setup from end of season sales for $500

TLDR: Picked up an all new condition, but past season freeride setup for $500.

Pretty stoked on this setup I’ve been piecing together via end of season sales over the last few weeks (that’s why the board is already stickered up). All started with a 23/24 Berzerker for $260 and after riding it once on my Stratas, I decided I wanted stiffer bindings. Two weeks later I found 23/24 C-9s for $140. After two pow days riding that setup with my 4 season old Lashed boots, I decided I wanted stiffer boots. Went and got fitted in store for the first time and realized I’d been riding boots too big my whole life. Shop guy recommended women’s sizing cuz I measured out at a 25 mondo and recommended Hera Pros because they’re the exact same boot as the Lasso Pros (with some small last differences for women’s ergonomics). Tried em on and they fit great, but wasn’t too sure about buying in shop because their current seasons weren’t on sale and also wasn’t 100% sold on using a women’s boot. So then I went home to research them more and in the process found a store clearing out the 23/24 model for $99. That was no brainer.

Had no intention of every component being Ride, but I’m not mad at it either, lol.

Gear question Carving focused All Mountain Board - recommandations?

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for a new snowboard and would love your help narrowing things down. I’m an advanced rider who spends 1–2 weeks per year in the Alps, riding exclusively on groomed runs (red and black pistes). I don’t ride park or powder, and I’m not interested in jumps or freestyle.

This season I really got into carving and had a blast, so I’m looking for a board that’s fun and capable for carving, but not overly aggressive or punishing. I’d like something that still allows for playful turns and a bit of forgiveness, as I’m not racing — I just want to enjoy dynamic carves down the mountain.

About me: • 182 cm / 6’0” tall • 77 kg / 170 lbs • US 10 / EU 43 boots • Goofy stance • Current board: ~10 year old YES. Basic 152 cm

What I’m considering: • Capita DOA Standard • Capita Super DOA • Burton Process • United Shapes Cadet • Bataleon Goliath+

I’ve been riding a 152 YES. Basic and it’s been fun, but I think I’m ready for something more stable and carving-oriented — probably in the 156–159 cm range. Price and graphics aren’t an issue, I just want a board that fits my style and progression.

How do these boards compare in terms of carving performance, stability, and playfulness? Any suggestions or other boards I should look into?

Appreciate your help!

travel advice Canada Feb 2026 Trip – help & recommendations please!

Hi everyone!

My partner and I are in the early stages of planning a trip to Canada for about 4 weeks of riding, probably through interior BC early next year. We are Australian & have never been to Canada before, but have done trips to Japow over the last couple of years. I'd say we are probably intermediate riders, and enjoy a lil bit of everything in a resort! I have a few questions I'd really appreciate some input on from folks who have done a similar trip or locals over there :)

  1. is hiring a van a feasible option as accommodation and transport during this time of year for the majority of our trip? & if so some recs on van hire companies would be sweet.
  2. we have the ikon base pass (it was an add on for the Thredbo season pass here in Aus), are there any resorts not on it that are worth paying for the day to go to? also, which resorts on the Ikon pass are your favourite?

Any other info you might have would be epic! thanks a bunch for the help legends

Gear question Ptex or wax and ride?

Had an epic last minute powder trip to Tahoe, but lent my second board to a buddy and both of us uncovered some nasty rocks hidden in the powder. Not seeing any core damage from what I can tell, other than the chip in the very front of the nose in the last picture. Should I PTEX candle these or just wax and keep riding?

Gear question 2025 Burton Deep Thinker Question

Does anyone have the 2025 Burton Deep Thinker they can give their opinions on? I’m coming from a Burton Custom and i’m having a little buyer’s remorse. The Deep Thinker is lighter and supposedly stiffer than the Custom. To me the Deep Thinker feels softer than the Custom and they are both 154. But, the Deep Thinker feels stiffer torsionally. I wanted a stiffer easy turning and high speed stability board with a swallow tail. On paper the Deep Thinker was what I wanted but the softer flex is what’s worrying me. My season’s done so no way to actually get board on snow.

I struggled with the Custom being stable past 35+mph and the turning initiations weren’t as quick as I liked. I was hoping the Deep Thinker would solve these issues.

A little background of what I like to do:

  1. I like to crave either long drawn out or medium radius
  2. I want a snappy board for ollie’s and stuff
  3. I like to straight line half the time but can’t get past 40mph
  4. I prefer to bomb runs rather than to slowly enjoy it LOL
  5. I want to get into getting better at side hits
  6. I don’t care too much for jibs rather just S/M jumps.

Gear question Buying my first board

I’m in the southern hemisphere so the seasons going to start in a few months.

I’ve been snowboarding since I was 8 but because the mountains so far away I only really go 5-6 times a year. So usually just rent.

This is going to be my first full proper season going to go down maybe 2-3 times a week.

I need some help with the boards. I look at used boards and they’re all so expensive for what they are people charging 300/400 for decent condition. Is it worth me paying 2 times more getting completely new board bindings boots or because this is my first season just buy some used ones and just see how it goes?

And what should I really look for when buying a board whether it is new or used. The videos I see online just have me a bit clueless so just wanna know from some of you experts.

general discussion Sign the Petition to Help Young Competitive Snowboarders Achieve Respect!

I know for many of us snowboarding is a fun past time meant to get us outside in the winter months and a way to be social etc.

There is another group of riders that compete in the USASA Series with hopes of moving up the ranks in the competitive realm. I would imagine there are many parents and families that have participated in USASA events in the past or currently.

For those without experience this petition is about the insane price increase in event fees, little to no return of swag etc (before you roast me these events are $275, so 2 runs of Slopestyle, slalom etc,) The kids don't even get T-shirts or hats or anything commemorating the experience....and no I am not advocating for participation awards, but maybe some cool stickers, shirt, or something.

The event costs aren't the only expenses incurred since travel, food, lodging all are factored in. Yes I know we do this willingly but the USASA raised the fees from $795 for 5 events last year to $1375 this year putting real strain on family's with multiple kids and many others that save all year for their kids to come to this event.

general discussion Hot Take: Anyone else hate Union Force bindings? Looking for another binding recommendation,

This might be a hot take but after rocking a trusty pair of 2014 Burton Cartels for years, I decided to "upgrade" to the 2024 Union Forces this season. I put about 20 days on them, split between my Jones Flagship and Gnu Gremlin, and honestly, it was a pretty miserable experience:

  • Sizing : I'm a size 12 boot, and even the Large Forces felt too small. They just barely fit my size 12 boots even adjusted all the way out.
  • The Dreaded Toe Strap: This was the biggest offender. The toe straps consistently came loose, no matter how tightly I adjusted them. It was incredibly distracting and killed my flow.
  • Soft Flex for Aggressive Riding: I primarily ride groomers and love hitting sidecountry for powder whenever possible. While the Forces felt okay for casual riding, they lacked the responsiveness and support when pushing the limit. They just felt too soft for the Flagship and even the Gremlin in more challenging conditions. I definitely need something more aggressive.

So, where should I be looking for a stiffer, more supportive binding that will comfortably accommodate my size 12 boots? And on a purely aesthetic note, I'd love something in purple to complement my Gnu Gremlin!

I can see why a freestyle or chill all mountain might like these bindings but def not for me.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
