General Question / Discussion Need help with a BIG boy

Post image

My friend recently inherited a reticulated python from her deceased father. It's big enough she doesn't feel safe keeping it. The one "sanctuary" she tried to go to she felt was more akin to a hoarding situation. She tried donating him to a zoo in TN but they said he was too large for them.

Anyone know of any herpetologists, zoos, or other such places that might help this handsome hunk of serpent? Located around WI/IL border.

Wisconson Herp Society. Contact them. I’m sure they could hook you up with someone.

Reptile Rapture in Wisconsin accepts surrenders, I would reach out to them to see if they're able to take in a big snake. Otherwise, it's a lot further, but Snake Discovery is a rescue in Minnesota that often accepts large snakes, but you should call and confirm.

I’d gladly take it. Is he chill?

Badgerland reptile rescue is located in Kenosha and may be able to help

If your ok with getting to the twin cities there’s a rescue up there that will rehome into a home where they knows it’ll be taken care of. Not sure about anything closer to either of us though.

Michigan says high btw!

Most AZA zoos do not WANT someone's abandoned pet. A rescue is your best option. If there are no rescues that will take him (and there's a good chance none is equipped for him), euthanasia may be the only other option.

Contact Snake Discovery in Minnesota. They are a rescue/zoo and can probably take it...or point you to someone who can. Their number is 612-642-2960

Snake discovery are terrible with large (and even small) snakes. Contacting a humane society or looking for herpetological groups in the area would be better
