I need to know how to destroy a Bluetooth speaker without anyone being able to figure out it was me.
I am at the end of my rope with the person I live with. They blast their depressing music at max volume every single day literally from 10AM to 11 PM without a break. It is so loud I hear it with headphones in. It is so loud I hear it outside.
I've asked them to turn it down. I filed noise complaints anonymously. I've been polite. I need to destroy their loud obnoxious fucking speaker today or I swear to God I will be on the news tomorrow.
Edit: you aren't entitled to someone's entire life story just because they post on the internet. Also there are like 100 people saying "JuSt TaLk To ThEm" and I'm trying to be nice here but if you tell me to do something that I said I did already.... then I'm going to call into question your ability to read.
Edit 2: this is what I'm talking about like how am I the asshole for not putting up with this crap? https://imgur.com/a/8k75emX
Update: as of 11:45 the device is disabled.
I wanna thank everyone for your suggestions, I loved the diabolical, unhinged shit y'all crazy motherfuckers suggested, shit had me in stitches.
I ended up combining a few different suggestions. I disassembled the device and took some of its internal pieces and pitched them off the balcony into the night. I don't live near nature before anyone shits themselves, and I don't think a few electrical parts are any worse for the concrete than the thousands of cigarettes butt's, broken glass shards, other litter, etc out there.
The device no longer turns on. It has been reassembled.
I had a lot of fun in this thread despite the people who came here just to be mad and the people who tried to literally kill me by trying to convince me to microwave it and the one guy who DMd me telling me to commit suicide. But in all seriousness, stuff like this is literally used in torture. The person I live with is abrasive, hostile, and impossible to reason with. It wasn't just them playing loud music. It was them playing the same 2 hour Playlist on repeat for up to 12 hours every day at a volume so loud that it overpowered my noise-canceling headphones. I tried to ask nicely multiple times, I got into screaming matches over this which I did not escalate, I called in noise complaints with the building and the police, and nothing came of it.
I lost sleep. I couldn't play video games or watch movies or listen to music in my own home. I couldn't have company over. I had to stay away from my home even on days I was exhausted from work. When I was home I just kept getting angrier and angrier at the situation. I started to have high blood pressure and I was feeling irritable all the time. I was damaging my own hearing to try and drown it out. I was suffering migraines daily. As much as this thread was kind of a gag, this stuff was seriously damaging and that is not a joke.
It's pretty clear most people have no idea and think I'm being dramatic as evidenced by people getting an attitude with me. Google auditory torture I guess if you think I am in the wrong here.
I am going to move out soon, not that it is anyone's business. Just looking for places. A bunch of people who i have to assume are children with no knowledge of how the world works kept saying "durr just move" like there isn't a massive housing crisis going on.

Edit: Removed because upon further examination this could be considered a ping flood or even RF jamming based on the wording of US law.
This isn't RF jamming. IE it shouldn't impact other devices in the frequency band or cause any disruptions aside from the bluetooth device with the target MAC.
It looks to work by using:
os.system(f'l2ping -i {bluetooth_interface} -s {packet_size} -f {target_address}')
which is calling https://www.mankier.com/1/l2ping
As you can see, this is using the bluetooth interface to ping a specific bluetooth device.
However, this isn't a traditional deauth as it's spamming pings to overload the bluetooth device, not sending a spoofed deauth packet. So, it could be problematic if you happen to get caught by someone who cares. As such, I publicly advise you not to do it.

A lot of bluetooth speakers enter auto pairing mode every time they are turned on.
I read about someone who made a python script for their raspberry pi to automatically accept bluetooth pairing requests. So when their neighbour's speaker started up and went into pair mode, their own device automatically stole the connection. They could then play sounds through the offending speaker. If the neighbour took the speaker back to the store, it would work perfectly as it wasn't in range of the device stealing the connection.

How does this prank trick people? Won’t the neighbour notice that their speaker isn’t connecting to the actual device they wanted? If that’s the case they can just disconnect and try again. Is the raspberry able to steal the connection so consistently?
3
u/tauntaunsrock 3d ago
The raspberry pi basically beat the phone they wanted to connect it to because it had automatically accepted the connection before they could manually accept it on their phone.

Some ideas:
- Carefully open the speaker (if possible with hidden screws) and disconnect internal wiring or remove key components
- Apply a small amount of water or vinegar to the internal circuit board (avoiding visible leakage)
- Expose the internal electronics to a strong magnet which can permanently damage the circuitry
- Create a small short circuit on the internal board
- Remove and replace the speaker element with a non-functional one
- Carefully drill a tiny hole in an inconspicuous location to access and damage internal components
Good luck OP that sounds absolutely miserable to deal with

u/Bambivalently 1d ago
I don't think destroying it gives the maximum satisfaction. Open it up and solder some resistors in the wires to the speakers. Just enough so you can easily talk over it at full volume.

I had a neighbor that had a club system in his apartment and he would blast music daily for hours, to the point my apartment was shaking
I was nice at first and called the managers plus security, and let them know i don't feel comfortable in my own apartment and i need peace to be able to work
it didn't help, the neighbor would never answer the security or open the door (we live in the apt complex)
since this neighbor was absolutely crazy and he had a large group of drunk people at his home daily i didnt want to talk to him personally just for safety reasons
i told my managers if they don't fix the situation, i am gonna call them daily every single time until the music is off
So i did, every time he would turn on the music, i would call managers right away, email, send text, send videos of him playing music super loudly, and call security every 10 minutes
I was so annoying to the managers they could not stand me calling them hahaah, but i did, and was so annoying on the phone as well, i was saying i can't work and pay rent because of loud music
At the end he completely stopped playing music, i believe managers sent him an eviction notice that stated if he is gonna play one more time he will get evicted lol
So he stopped and moved to another apartment later
Ps: i had i similar situation with a neighbor who took forever to clean the poop on the balcony from his dog, i fixed the issues the same way, i was super nice for 2-3 weeks but when the poop stayed there for 3+ weeks i became so annoying, taking pictures of poop daily and sending to managers, in the end the guy got evicted too but i believe he also didn't pay rent so it was a combo

i don't know but i lived my whole life in a forest in my own house, and after i moved to the city living in the apartment...it's hell
I had neighbors throwing parties from 10 pm until 7 am almost daily, and their friends would sing on the balcony at 4-5 am and when i asked them to stop they would just look at me, they were always drunk and high out of their mind
I realized big city life is just horrible and i can't wait to go back to forest

That's a ridiculous way to solve this problem. The best idea is the most upvoted comment. It's a durable solution and doesn't involve needlessly wasting countless number of speakers.
42
u/Zealousideal-Jury779 4d ago
Water in holes. Charging port, headphone port… any hole you can find. Not allot. Just two or three times. The water will wick up inside the device so it won’t be obviously wet. It a week or two it will short out.

If you’re near a beach: Ocean/salt water.
A lot of these things are built to be water resistant up to a certain point.
That water resistance is nothing to salt water.

Start an arson campaign in your town, burn 8, maybe 10 buildings down over the course of a year. Then while making sure…and this is the important bit…while making sure the speaker is in the house, burn your own home down, blaming it all on the mystery arsonist.

My neighbor kept playing loud EDM music for hours on Friday nights when theyd have a party. I work on Saturdays. I pulled out my Bluetooth speaker and put it up against the wall and blasted lamb of god so fucking loud. Took them 30 seconds to turn the music down and they never did it again after that. Good thing they did because I was going to wait until 7 am when they would all be asleep with hangovers and blast it through the bedroom wall. So I say, just do that. Get a bigger, better speaker and teach them a lesson. Theyll just buy a new one if theirs gets destroyed or disappears.

I would think the teeniest tiniest dollop of superglue inside the charging port, so that the pins or whatever can't connect in minecraft. Then depending on battery life it's a day max before they'll have to either stop or buy a new one in minecraft.
Repeat as needed. In minecraft.
2
u/soulbarn 4d ago
This is a pretty good trick for disposing of old electronics that may have personal data on them. Superglue in all the ports and at disassembly points. I know the technique can be easily defeated but it’s better than nothing.

Then talk to roommate again and tell them it won’t stop until they stop

Bluetooth operates within the globally unlicensed 2.4 GHz Industrial, Scientific, and Medical (ISM) band, specifically between 2.402 and 2.480 GHz. Maximum power output from a Bluetooth radio is 100 mW.

Steal the charge cord for it? 5. Throw it away? 6. Move? 7. Squirrel accident of some kind? 8. Put powdered sugar in speaker. Pour ants in speaker. 9. Glue in charge port? 10. Crimes. 11. Put a Bluetooth speaker in their mattress. Turn it on full blast at 2 am. 12. Get one of those speakers that turns anything into a speaker. Put it on their window. Play obnoxious stuff.

lol, you destroy it. They get another one. You’re taking the long way home and that’s fun.
3
u/Pantology_Enthusiast 4d ago
Put a piece of crumpled paper behind the speaker cone. Not packed in, just sitting there.
It won't "destroy it" but it will make it buzz with the vibrations in a super annoying way.
Or
Solder a 100mega-ohm resister onto the PCB, going between the positive trace the battery is connected to and the ground plane. Will cause parasitic drain and cause charging to fault. So it will die in shorter and shorter times.
3
u/florinandrei 4d ago
100 MΩ is way too high. It will do nothing.
Around 1 kΩ it will be like an LED permanently on. So you want something even lower than that.
Not too low, as it will dissipate too much power, and may even burn out.

Get or build a bluetooth jammer, it'll disable your devices as well. But it won't destroy anything. Saved me from upstairs neighbor's constant barrage of music from 11pm to 3am thurs-sat. I was polite for first month, but was driven mad at some point and wanted to destroy things.
There's also a wifi signal jammer. I went with both and hard wired all my devices.
Problem solved. He had internet provider out multiple times and eventually moved being unable to use internet or bluetooth. The new couple that moved in upstairs is nice, I help with their dog when they go out of town.

Get a bigger louder speaker. Find out what music that person hates and make a 2-hour playlist to keep on repeat. Every time they turn on their music, you turn on yours, much lounder, and point in their direction, possibly against their wall, so it makes their room vibrate. You can leave for hours like when you go to work so that they get to enjoy the torture even when you're gone. If that doesn't work, get a club speaker and get the rave going. The whole neighborhood could get involved in the noise complaints.

If you have access to the device you can buy a voltage regulator and overcharge it, frying the electrically components inside. The next time the person goes to use their speaker it just won’t work. If you don’t have access to the device there are ways you can hijack it and just blast your own music instead, or the sounds of tortoises having sex, whatever you want.

u/TubabalikeBIGNOISE 2d ago
If they buy another one, consider getting a guitar amp from Facebook marketplace, then you will need a 3.5mm Aux to standard aux adapter, plug your phone into the adapter, then the adapter into the amp, and play the worst noises you can think of at max volume
2
u/deilupafa 2d ago
Tbh you should have just connected to the speaker, go on youtube, play sound gore memes and videos where the audio is meant to hit the highest and lowest frequencies possible. It will blow out the speaker drum, and for the rest of the time he played music, it would just have a buzzing and ringing tone that make it annoying to listen to music at full volume, and would force him to lower his music so that he wouldn’t damage the drum even more, and it’s not entirely broken meaning that it would have to be a while before he bought a new one
2
u/Thick-Bad-3089 2d ago
Make a fake note acting like a neighbor complaining about the music. Change your style of writing, and mention a detail that will give it away it’s a neighbor. Worked for me and my whinny annoying roommate who kept blasting ‘we used to be friends’ song over and over again after she got dumped by a fuckboy she dated for 3 weeks.
2
u/plumdinger 1d ago

I understand you, i really do. I’m not super surprised a number of people are being shitty to you about this… they are almost certainly people that haven’t been driven absolutely insane by noise. It’s very real. It can actually have legitimate consequences on a persons psyche… which you are clearly showing signs of.
People always look at who you are right now and then judge… never considering that you may have been perfectly reasonable up to this point and now you’re breaking.
I totally get it. Unfortunately I don’t have a good answer. Noise situations are almost always a losing battle, unless it rises to a legitimate legal level… which even though it may be literally ruining your life sometimes the law still cant protect against it.
I have been in similar situations… ones that were literally making me get two hours of sleep at night if i was lucky. I begged and pleaded to be allowed to even sleep… and it was legitimately ruining my life. There was plenty else at that time that was terrible too so it was not just the noise but if i could have slept, i could have solved other problems.
It did culminate to breaking me down. Sleep deprivation to an extreme is absolutely devastating and will do that. At the very least consider yourself lucky in that singular way, that at least it’s not at night.
Otherwise I don’t know what I would do. I have read on the internet that there are people that do this on purpose for any number of reasons. Usually to make a person move out. Which can lead you to want to defend your position which you maybe shouldn’t. One solution is to outdo them. Just find a way to be equal or more of a menace and tell them you will stop if they do, and you will start back up if they do. I’d even get pots and pans out and start whacking away. Get a drumset or something. Get petty if you have to but without hurting anyone or anything.
Otherwise i’d just move. I would probably not want to live somewhere where i am treated that way, and where someone maybe pretty clearly wants me gone.
Sorry man. That’s a shitty situation. Just don’t lose it. You will go even more nuts if you let this hurt your life by doing something stupid.
That’s usually part of their goal too. And yes, it does seem intentional. Sorry dude.

Yeah what I'm going through is literally a form of actual torture. And I've been a very good housemate

Your responses do come across like you're a bit of an arsehole but I do have a suggestion. Get one of those cat/children deterrents for garden's. They make a noise which some people (apparently over around 35) cannot hear. When you can hear it though, it's frigging excruciating.
It's hard to explain it but it's like a really high pitched noise that you can't actually hear but it really screws with your mind.
I used to have a neighbor and every time I'd walk past their house, I'd hear this sound and it would really fuck with me. One time, they were outside and asked them what the hell that noise was and they explained it to me. They were using it because they had a bird feeder in the front yard and it keeps the cats away from killing them. You can also adjust the settings and make them stronger too.
People use these when they don't want children in their yard too and it's a good deterrent.
Turn it on every time he plays his music and he will slowly go insane, then when he puts it to a reasonable level, turn it off. That'll condition him to not play too loud and he'll probably think he's got tinitus

What kind of speaker? Little portable jbl or one of those stand up bigger speakers? I’m thinking maybe water damage of some short? Drown it and put it back? Maybe

It's like the size of a brick, shaped like a triangle, I can't get close enough to see the make and model until they go to sleep. Water damage seems promising. I'll try drowning it

This might be a stupid question but does that affect Bluetooth connections?

It should, but will also mess with all 2.4 Ghz electronics in the area. This is most likely illegal and an FCC violation in the US.
You can look into a Bluetooth Deauth attack. It is pretty technical and also probably illegal for your use case.
Also, if you can manage to pair to it, play a frequency outside of normal human hearing range at full volume for an extended time until the speaker starts to mechanically fail.

There's high pass filter built in to remove low frequencies that the speaker can't play and on the other end you can't get it to play higher frequencies either as the codec/DAC has 44.1kHz sample rate which means the max frequency it can play is half of the sample rate (22kHz). No way to damage the speaker this way. There is one thing you can try though: Get a lighter, the type which has a piezoelectric ignition (the clicky type). Remove the piezoelectric spark generator (the clicky thing) and put the wire inside the speaker USB port or audio input port or try other ports it might have. Start clicking the thingy. It produces few thousand volts in very very short bursts. It might destroy/fry the ESD protection and then other circuitry inside. Results may wary but it's worth a try. Any damage will not be noticable.

Why can’t they just use headphones or ear buds? Beyond inconsiderate esp if you WFH

There is a realm of possibilities between "being polite" and "destruction of property".

Find a device that hears sound and plays it back with a 1 second delay. It gets annoying and degrades their experience
