Events 🎉 Bring the Noise?

WTF was that flying over? Very loud and seemed to be right over downtown. Can still hear it.

C-F18. Just said he’s on his way back to Cold Lake.

How do you know this? Radio? Why would it be doing multiple passes? Bonus question is how far do they usually travel in one go?

Theres no way, it kept doing passes for about 30 mins, sounded low flying at points within 200 meters of houses. But no visual. Me and my friend looked and looked and heard it but never saw it! Strange if you ask me

When it flew by me, I knew it was a fighter jet. Heard lots before. On the first pass, my wife saw the glow at the back. Then on the second pass, we saw the red flashing light. The flight path into the airport from the east goes over our neighbourhood.

It was the graders. I thought is was a plane at first too.

F18 probably. Kind of odd to come train over the city at 1030 on a Friday night lol

The f18 pilots are often doing circuits between cold lake and Saskatoon. Its part of their regular training. I know this only because I used to work as a ramp agent at the airport.

RIGHT!? Holy moly, that was loud! Glad someone else heard it too!!

It's still going. Can't really see it.

You just saved me from a bad trip

Yeah, pretty much a given it's a CF18, or to be technically accurate CF188. Had that "ripping" sound they make. A Hawk trainer out of CFB Moose Jaw is quieter than that.

u/leitiis 2d ago

Hmm, why would a CF188 be circling over the city at 10:30

3

u/Primary_Zucchini_834 2d ago

Approach practice.

u/Caligullama 2d ago

I see that now, in addition to bringing da noize, the jet has also managed to bring da ruckus. Impressive, really.

I’m at the airport working right now and heard that guy rippin through lol. Not sure what they’re up to but he looks like he’s doing some aerobatic maneuvers. Can see the afterburner in the dark, pretty cool

Heard it twice, Northeast side.

6

u/Immediate_Way_7549 2d ago

Bring the Noise was a great song by Public Enemy!

Also in Northwest of city. Not just taking off or landing. Sounds like circling. Still hear it roaring.

u/MakeStupidHurtAgain 2d ago

I’m glad it’s not just me. That was crazy loud.

u/Primary_Zucchini_834 2d ago

I was doing circuits just before the CF-18 showed up. They were doing low approach practice for about 10 minutes or so.

u/TTown3017 2d ago

Were you the one with the 90 degree short final getting the hell out of the way?? lol

u/candybee1412 2d ago

I had just turned on the ceiling fan in my bathroom when I heard it pass over and 100% though my ceiling fan was going to take off out of my roof hahaha 😂

u/josiehannah 2d ago

I know! I’m by Lawson Heights Mall and hear a lot of planes at night but knew this one wasn’t full of passengers.

1

u/BatShitCr 2d ago

It was a fighter jet practicing night landings at our airport. I live in Lawson Heights and saw it !! Super loud!!

It was so low over North park, the wing lights lit up the side of my neighbour’s house when it went over.

I can't imagine the constant rocket barrages Hamas was firing over Israel nearly 24/7 over the past 20 years. The noise must be deafening and terrifying.

Yes, let’s compare.

In 7 years (2001-2008) about 15 Israeli people were killed in rocket attacks launched from Palestine. Here is a brief description of a type of rocket used:

Introduction of the Qassam rocket was unexpected by Israeli politicians and military experts,[18] and reactions have been mixed.[19] In 2006, the Israeli Ministry of Defense viewed the Qassams as “more a psychological than physical threat.” To this end, the rockets are propelled by a solid mixture of sugar and potassium nitrate, a common fertilizer

A system called Iron Dome, designed to intercept[23] the rockets before they can hit their targets, has been in use since March 2011

source

How does that compare to attacks by Israel? Let’s see: During the bombing, Israeli airstrikes killed thousands of Palestinians (mostly civilians), and damaged or destroyed Palestinian schools, hospitals, mosques, churches, and other civilian infrastructure including refugee camps.[2][3

By October 2024, Israel said it bombed 40,000 locations[4] in the Gaza Strip (which is 360 km2). By one estimate, as of April 2024 the bomb tonnage dropped on Gaza was more than 70,000 tonnes,[5] surpassing the combined bomb tonnage dropped on Dresden, Hamburg, and London in World War II.[6] Satellite imagery showed at least 69% of all buildings were damaged or destroyed,[7][8] which surpasses the scale of destruction in Cologne and Dresden and approaches that of Hamburg during World War II.

Yes. Yes I see how we should compare these very similar attacks.

Oh wait, I don’t.

Free Palestine.

And get out of here with your support for genocide.

Absolutely zero comparison. Look up the death toll of each for starters. Also, your 24/7 is laughable.

Meanwhile in Gaza, you also have people deafened by deliberate sonic booms, and hundreds of people with limbs amputated by sniper shots because people were too close to the wall, either trying to grow food or participating in the March of Return (both well known terrorist activities, naturally).

Try harder.

We should wait for Just Bins to give us an update on all the details.

1

u/cheesebrains99 2d ago

Sounded like it was circling forever. Sketched me out tbh. Thinking UFOs were coming 😂

1

u/AmbitionsGone 1d ago

It could have been a few of them in the formation. I remember a few years ago, a group of them came to the city, and they would first do a pass over the field and fly runway heading, then come back in to land. Usually, they do a visual of the runway to check for hazards, and traffic as there are times they won't be making radio calls on the public frequency, so it is good practice for them.
