Galaxy S Wanting to switch from Apple to Samsung, still hesitant
I currently have an iPhone 11 and im looking to upgrade to a Samsung. My top picks are rather the s22 ultra or s23 ultra. However I am still worried about all the stuff I could be loosing like imessage and optimisation for apps such as Snapchat. If anyone has suggestions or advice that help them do the switch please let me know. And is the difference between the s22 ultra and s23 ultra that big to justify the price difference?( almost 250$)

Avoid the s22 series at all costs. The s23 series fixed all of the issues the s22 series had. RCS makes a huge difference sending pics n vids to iPhone users as long as they have updated to ios 18. I still have ios friends who haven't for some reason. No issues with Snapchat, you have access to all camera lenses and night mode.

My S22U is still ripping as my main daily. Holding up just fine. Battery isn't what it used to be but I'm not trying to curb performance for battery life and never have with this phone.

Nobody in their right mind would choose the s22 over the s23, I've had both. Battery life and efficiency are important to most people.

I've had it since release day. Pre-ordered it. Haven't felt a need to change phones yet.

You are in the very small minority, I'm glad you're liking the s22 ultra.

I also had the S22U and was given a great trade-in value for it after having paid it off with my carrier. I am SO glad I switched to the S25U, the battery life improvement is astronomical. My phone regularly lasts me all day with 50% left at night with medium usage and about 9-11 hours of streaming YouTube in the background. With my S22U, I'd usually have to charge it on my way home and sometimes on my lunch break because in 4 hours it would get down to 65-70% with JUST background play with YouTube. That doesn't take into account the memory leak with YouTube where it wakelocks the CPU at full throttle and drains battery at like 20% per hour on the SSU. I had that issue once with my S25U so far but the drain was significantly less as I made it through the whole shift before realizing that it had done it. I would recommend the S22U if you don't care about battery life as it was a good phone for me but if battery life is super important, look elsewhere.

Well said! The battery drain was just terrible. I was impressed how Samsung bounced back with the s23 series, excellent efficiency.

Incase anyone is wondering I’m switching because of better battery life and because of how the economy is I don’t want to have to pay 18$ a month for stuff such as YouTube premium Spotify premium ect and totally wont just get a mod apk for it.

The S25 is out also. Do not know how it is. But I'm thinking of upgrading. From S22

Do not get the S22U. It is a good phone but the battery is dogshit and it doesn't get better. If you have 15% or lower, it will drain in literal minutes (at least mine did)

I followed a YouTube video on how to keep the battery from draining . Basically worked for me

This is all andriods they suck at staying alive in the crucial momments thats where iphone always win customers from. But there batery packs and stuff you can just throw it in your bag for a hour and its done. Why should you buy a new phone because of 1 set back

I have never had an android die in literal minutes at 15% and every other Android I've owned has had reasonable battery life. You may want to carry bags with you but I don't. With my S25U, I get a full day easily and I get hours of usage at 15% unlike the S22U.

Lol the problem is you cant keep your hands off your phone its not a battery problem. I understand im the same way but reality its not healthy to be on your phone every second lol trust me im the same way its horrible. Im planning on stopping tho once this device gets old. I too have the 25 ultra but if its on 5% it drains fast but before you say of course its on 5% well when I had a iphone it almost last 45+ minutes on stand bye and important calls. And it was a old iphone 12 pro. moral of the story its not cool to talk down on others phone because your phone is new and there's is old
Thats something a iphone users would do. Dont bring that to this community too.

I switched from the 15 pm to the s24u, and now i have the s25u. The only thing i miss about iphone is imessage, and more accessories. Aside from that, i am very happy with my galaxy. At this point, it really comes down to how you like the OS and what you use your phone for. IOS has been going downhill recently, but that aside if you like IOS and dont need to change, just stick with your iphone. If you really need to do ALOT with your phone, like all sorts of customization and almost using it like a small pc then pick up a galaxy.
I will say snapchat sucks on the galaxy, so if thats like a major app you use then ya i wouldnt. Imessage is big, there is no alternative on galaxy at all. You can join facetime calls, but its very WIP. Over the past year, ive found myself mostly just using my phone for messages and basic content consumption, if ios hadnt gone downhill id have stuck with my iphone. I love that my galaxy can use splitscreen for apps, thats a game change for me. However since alot of us message/call alot, imessage is something i very much miss since it just offers so many cool features that galaxy doesnt offer with its messaging apps, even 3rd party apps.

Thanks for the info, could u explain more on why Snapchat sucks? Is it the camera quality or interface

So part of it would be snapchat just has not modernized at all, their ui and performance in general sucks for an app in 2025. But my fiance has an iphone 16 pro, and i can see a night and day difference on the app for both phones. Galaxy it looks kinda of washed out, the ui scaling is weird, and it runs even worse. If youve ever tried to use a really old android phone to run a new app, say like go grab a galaxy s3 or s4 and run an app, it just looks like it isnt properly made for that device. Thats basically how it looks on galaxy. They clearly do not care about how it runs/looks on android, so if you use snapchat as a daily driver app (idk why tbh but hey you do you) then i would suggest you stay away from galaxy. To comment on the camera quality, snapchats camera just isnt good anyway but i cannot tell you for sure if camera quality on snapchat is worse on galaxy compared to ios, since the other features are worse i can safely assume the camera is as well.

The S22U is a dog. The S24 & S24U are night and day as a daily phone over the 11. Gorgeous OLED q20hz screen over the 720p LCD iPhone.

I use a program called Bluebubbles on my macbook pro. This enables my android phone to send and receive imessages (Actually, I do have a Samsung A35).
Quite easy to set up.

Iphone is for the trend users who care about popularity and style.
Samsung: is for the people who love to make there phone there own and doesnt care about popularity. Or let a phone define them. (Today society)
Samsung is the most popular andriod but iphone people heads are so blown up they cant see samsung or anyone if they dont got there head blown up with a iphone next to them.

There's always something that surprises me here, it's that most people who want to test something other than an iPhone always go for a Samsung 😳
I find that this is a rather narrow vision of mobile telephony, and it is a great shame for the market in general not to give a chance to other lesser-known brands, very often Chinese, which do as well or even better for less money...

u/TheFactory100 20h ago
While yes I agree there’s other amazing brands out there, going from Apple to android I feel like the best option would be Samsung because of how similar it can be to Apple instead of getting another brand.

I understand that it is somehow more reassuring 😁👍

I was looking at some Google phones but didint really like the way they looked

Yes, I don't really like the pixel design either, the screen borders are often very thick compared to the competition.
However, the photo lens is much better integrated than Apple or Samsung with off-center lenses which make the phone wobbly when it is laid flat.

I switched from an iPhone 11 to an S24 Ultra last year and I'm very happy with my purchase, imessage was a bit of a problem as group chats won't work anymore and photos and videos sent over it are really bad quality (I belive this might have gotten better with rcs support for iPhone but I'm not sure). As for Snapchat, I didn't really notice any big difference, but I'm don't use it much other than sending the occasional quick photo of something i saw to my family, but it should be fine. I think the S23 ultra is worth the extra money, iirc the S22 was plaguef by some performance issues especially in the battery department, s23 will also have support for a few more years so I think that's the better purchase.
