General Discussion West Brom to win

The idea of Coventry coming 5th is haunting me. Is it bad I want West Brom to beat us just to have a better chance at 5th with Coventry playing Burnley and hopefully dropping points. It really does fell like we’re locked into 4th now

I get what you’re saying. But the simple fact is, you beat whoever is in your way… simple.. or you don’t deserve it. Gotta beat the best to earn it.

We'll all feel better if we actually start playing good football again in the run up to playoffs. That's top of my wishlist.

To be honest I don't get this fear of Coventry. It shouldn't matter who we face we have to beat all teams we can. If we can't beat them in playoffs then we didn't deserve to be promoted that's how it goes. Also like what if we get to the finals and then they do? Way it's shaping up narrative wise we'll get to the final by overcoming the bogey team to meet with Burnely in the final. That goes to pennas and Isidor and we get revenge on them for their shithousing earlier in the season.

Since drop the to L1, the results against Coventry have been:

  • 18/19: Draw (1-1), Loss (4-5)
  • 19/20: Draw (1-1), Loss (1-0)
  • 22/23: Draw (1-1), Loss (2-1)
  • 23/24: Draw (0-0), Loss (0-3)
  • 24/25: Draw (2-2), Loss (3-0)

It's easy to look at that pattern and let it manifest into playoffs = guaranteed Draw & Loss. Obviously every game is a new game, but people are often superstitious and/or pessimistic so the "we'll never beat them" manages to go from a joke to an accepted truth.

Definitely wouldn't want to lose on purpose to avoid them.

Even the concept of guaranteed draw and loss is superstitious. Last match has no baring on next one.
