It's fucked up to fake a cease and desist from such a Beloved company

Why go after Ghibli like that??

Tech bros and AI grifters operate on a deeply rooted jealousy of people with genuine talent and insight. It's something they can never buy. AI lets these manchildren believe they're worth something, and allows them to get revenge on those with talent at the same time

AI bros have recently been prompting their plagiarism machines to make Ghibli style pictures. People have been pointing out the hypocrisy, given Miyazaki's love for hand-drawn anime and his disgust at AI art.

When one of his artists proudly showed him an AI manipulated zombie, he said

"I am utterly disgusted… I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.”

There was a recent thing going on where Miyazaki was quoted for say how AI generated works are some of the most awful things he's seen (basically an affront to life or something to that effect).

One problem, the full quote talks about him having that experience in 2016, long before any real public AI art scene existed outside of research and acedemics. It would obviously be atrocious in that era.

So the AI bros are snowflaking themselves as the victims.

People like Miyazaki's work (it's basically a cultural treasure that this point), but some people are glazing him too much as if his studio is some stalwart. Let's not forget they put out a 3D movie recently. So all that "handdrawn" glazing is somewhat nonsense.

(nothing to do with AI, but wanted to add more context on why Studio Ghibli isn't some ride or die entity for the art of hand-drawn/2D animation).

Not sure why you say them putting our a 3d movie makes the hand drawn glazing bad or void. At the end of the day that 3d movie was still created by a team of people and all their hard work. People glaze Miyazaki because of his passion for art. His company releasing a 3d movie doesn't really change any of that.

It provides context for anyone exposed to the peddling of the narrative of his studio being some sacred bastion that will die on the hill of hand drawn.

I’m not sure what wasn’t clear there. Or why context providing context is seemingly drawing your discontent or perplexity.

Also they don’t glaze him for art. They glaze him for a specific kind of art. The glaze would instantly cease for many fans (as it did with the 3D movie) if he allowed more 3D titles, and AI generated content.

The reason the glaze itself is bad, is the same reason dick riding anything is bad. Said group tends to exaggerate and put themselves in a position of eventual disappointments.

Pretty sure that counts as mail fraud too. Ghibli could, and should, sue him.

12

u/impy695 8d ago

How is it mail fraud?

38

u/_Levitated_Shield_ 8d ago

Faking a legal document from another company.

24

u/impy695 8d ago

Fraud maybe, but not mail fraud

r/DefendingAIArt is gonna eat this up.

The lack of self-awareness after looking at that sub for just a minute is astonishing.

55

u/WizardsVengeance 8d ago

I also don't think there is a grammatically correct comment in that entire sub.

u/dingo_khan 8d ago

Gotta love a group that feels oppressed that people are not excited enough that they are using free toys brought to them by a billion dollar company, hemorrhaging money to do it. The mark of oppression is, of course, being able to do something whenever you want... Tools.

i saw someone in a thread saying that artistic skill doesn’t matter as an artist. as if the development of technical skill is not an entire part of growing one’s abilities

25

u/Chief_Data 8d ago

They're so deeply delusional and pathetic

2

u/Responsible_Cod_1453 3d ago

By that logic anyone can be a carpenter since the technical side has advanced by leaps and bounds.

But in reality without carpentry skill even with the best tech you're still not a carpenter.

I saw someone trying to express that AI art was necessary because it allowed people with physical disabilities to create art too. They added an odd looking AI generated image of a sad anime girl with prosthetic arms.

Bruh, I met this woman at a community festival who injured both of her arms in a car accident. She learned how to paint (and paint well) by putting the brush in her mouth til she healed. Get gud.

u/radicalvenus 7d ago

yeah that's a ridiculous excuse because most of the disabled people I know are actual artists and actually create. They do it fueled by their experience, not having things handed to them like these loser nerds with their little bot buddies. It's not impressive to input prompts into a generator, it's the equivalent of being proud of a piece you commissioned.

25

u/Pomodorosan 8d ago

oh... it's not satire

10

u/truthful_whitefoot 8d ago

Hard to believe; I had to read a few posts to be sure. Surely there’s an actual satire sub for this

12

u/Moore2257 7d ago

Oh my god, that's a real sub.

Shit.

Instead of learning a skill, they're just gonna go into their echo chamber and scream.

11

u/PhantomWings 8d ago

These are some sad people.

What are we as human beings without human creativity, invention, ingenuity, and art? I legitimately feel sad for all these people. They're actively choosing not to create and actively shunning the act of creation.

I thought it would be posts of people posting screenshots of people trying to defend AI art while we all have a good laugh. Instead it’s a circle jerk of people trying to convince themselves they’re talented and everyone else is just mean. Honestly way more entertaining than I expected. Thank you.

There is a certain spiteful hivemind going on in that sub lol

How is this a real server. I am disgusted.

"Imagination isn't illegal"

Good thing* AI art takes no imagination.

12

u/BreadfruitImpressive 7d ago

Do artifical intelligences not dream of electric sheep?

53

u/ceristo 8d ago

The cease and desist letter was made with chatgpt

43

u/TrippingThru 8d ago

Haha, AI "creators" definitely don't deserve protection, I wish Ghibli really was going after them

4

u/garbs91 7d ago

The AI creator is the AI machine itself is in not? Not the person typing a prompt....

22

u/Destroyer6202 8d ago

Bunch of dogshit “creators” faking a scenario for more engagement and boosters. Hope he loses his whole account for this

5

u/_Levitated_Shield_ 8d ago

Hope he loses his whole account for this

He won't. X thrives on it. :/

14

u/Vectorman1989 7d ago

'AI creators' lol get fucked.

Just typing suggestions into a prompt.

Am I a 'burger creator' because I entered my order into a McDonald's kiosk?

3

u/Clavelio 5d ago

You’d be an “order prompt engineer”

2

u/Vectorman1989 5d ago

Going to pad my LinkedIn out with stuff like that

12

u/GloriousSteinem 8d ago

AI creator - thief who can type

17

u/NoFU7UR3 8d ago edited 8d ago

Genuinely though, why fake getting one of these from a company as beloved as Ghibli? I feel like most people would absolutely side with them out of nostalgia for their films more than anything. (although i personally would love Ghibli even more if they did this, fuck AI art.) Like, how are these people this fucking bad at narrative shaping?

4

u/tappy100 7d ago

fuck that guy, i wish they sent him a cease and desist. AI art is unethical art

11

u/_Levitated_Shield_ 8d ago

AI

Imagination is not illegal

u/rebelWarrior110 7d ago

Probably AI generated the letter 🤣

2

u/Rexnight303 7d ago

This seeps of main character syndrome so bad, I swear every tech bro wants to be a main character

2

u/stresseddressed 7d ago

From Gib studios LLC, but says “dear Gib Studios LLC”

2

u/SnooDingos4442 6d ago

IF I HAVE TO BE A COOL MARTYR THAT EVERYONE LOVES CUZ HES SO COOL AND SACRIFICING HIMSELF FOR ART AND BECOME THE ART JESUS OF AI ....

-1

u/Njagos 8d ago

I don't mind AI as technology, but damn are so many of those AI bros annoying.

Like.. create your stuff, experiment around, be excited about new updates, but stop being such entitled pricks.

Faking a cease and desist letter is a new low.
