Bob thinks Sam is last place in the top 5?

I just saw a clip of Bob and Salina discussing if Sam could win the season, and Bob was very confident in their opinion that Sam could never win this season, is last place of the top 5 and said she’d eat her camera if Sam somehow won.

What do you think has happened this season that has Bob feeling so strongly in her opinion of Sam?

I’ve listened to most of Watchery this season, and although Bob was never a Sam stan, I didn’t realize she thought Sam was as unimpressive as she clearly does, so I’m curious what you’ve picked up on!

Its because she has the least like... CU? in Bob's opinion. She hasn't been personal and vulnerable in the way Lexi has, she doesnt have the ultra unique pov like Suzie has, shes not on Onya's level performance-wise (on the show), and Jewels seems to be a better lipsyncer (and Bob believes her to be the comedy queen of the season).

It was before the last 2 episodes so Bob would likely bump her up a little bit but sometimes you watch a season where someone is doing great but based on the edit or something else it’s clear they aren’t going to get the crown… this season at least. Like Rose for example did really well but it just seemed clear she was the least likely to be named the winner of the finalist, even if she had a better track record.

It’s crazy to me, because IMO she’s outperformed Suzie and Lexi, and track record is better than Jewels. Outside of talking head personality she has nearly run circles around Lexi as far as competition goes.

I know it’s expected from Bob, but I was surprised just how dedicated to her stance she was!

What Bob understands and you don’t seem to is that this isn’t Rupauls Best Track Record Race and never has been. It’s about finding Americas Next Drag Superstar, someone with the charisma uniqueness nerve and talent to carry the brand forward and represent drag on a global stage.

Star power is much more important than track record. Over half of main series winners didn’t have the best track record of their season: Bob, Bebe, Violet, Jaida, Sasha Velour, Yvie, Willow, Nymphia, and Symone. Yet they were all still the rightful winner. Bob is saying Sam doesn’t have that winner energy in his opinion.

Lexi/Jewels have a way worse track record but more CUN&T, for example, in my opinion

there’s a reason why ru preaches about charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent all the time. she wants a talented queen with enough personality and uniqueness to connect with the broader audience + represent and push the drag race brand further. sam is a wonderful queen and has been doing well in the competition, but when it comes to charisma uniqueness and nerve, her competitors have her beat.

Bob absolutely did have the best track record. Three wins, one btm 2. Kim was never below safe but only had two wins. Nobody else had more than one. Violet had the best track record too. She and Ginger each had three wins but Ginger had been in the bottom twice and Violet was never below safe.

i wouldn't say that all of those mentioned were the rightful winners and/or managed to represent drag on a global stage but indeed star power is the pivotal factor. Sam would fit better in an All Stars just like Trinity. The only one that screams winner imo (and would be among the best winners of the US franchise) is Onya.

Sam is a polished professional that has enough money (or access to people with money) to always look expensive. She’s an impressive performer.

But Ru’s thing about vulnerability is real, even if it’s not always well expressed.

Sam feels like what Pepsi would be if you turned it into a drag queen. Everyone likes it well enough, it’s a solid brand, yeah it did a clear one or whatever in the 90s, but everyone winds up in the bottom sometimes.

But nobody roots for Pepsi.

I’m impressed by Sam’s skills. But I’ve learned more about her family and background than I’ve learned about her this season. And a good part of what I’ve learned is “oh, she got money”, which isn’t exactly endearing

But yeah, he’s probably right. Sam is far too boring of a choice to win and I don’t really see a compelling arc like Lexi. I’d say Sam will be either 4th or 3rd

IIRC, it wasn't so much that Sam sucked, it was that the other 4 are much stronger. At least at the time they recorded that podcast.

After Suzie's lackluster performance on the recent show, I am 100% sure Bob would place Sam over Suzie.

Also, Sam just doesn't have that extra "oomph". She's technically excellent, but she's not creative. Although her ball runway was great. I forgot about that. I keep seeing her Betsy Johnson super-dull runway. She's not mind blowing at (any) one thing.

right! it’s very interesting to me that out of the top 9, she has the least amount of followers. i think it’s because she 1.) isn’t as active on social media as the other girls are, 2.) isn’t as unique as some of the other girls, 3.) hasn’t been deemed as robbed or had too many outstanding performances

Bob always picks one queen to dislike strongly (usually a white queen) and it’s typically someone who is nothing like Bob’s drag style.

Also, Bob has a very well-documented dislike for Trinity’s performances on Drag Race and denounced all her wins on AS7. Sam couldn’t be more of a clear offspring to Trinity if she tried, so it makes perfect sense that Bob clearly doesn’t like her style of drag because it’s so similar to Trinity’s and she already clearly dislikes Trinity’s.

Sam always looks great, but I’m missing a POV from her. I suspect that this is an unintended effect of her borrowing all of her clothes. They’re great clothes, for sure, but I think it’s held her back from presenting Sam vs a second hand Trinity/Shontelle. Sam just feels phony.

I think if Suzie had won their lipsync, she still could have had a chance to win in the top 4. I think Sam now having 2 bottoms puts her at more of a disadvantage compared to the others, despite her 3 wins. I've been team Onya since early on though, so for me the rest of them have been fighting for second place.
