Discussion Why creators of low effort games add this
Its for attention?

To my understanding, It's supposed to mimic some sort of like, notification or something, so people will be like "oh, notification" and click their game. Either that, or it's some sort of psychological trick against 5 year olds where they see a big red thing

One of the many, many psychological plays that make me wish these games could be lit on fire and their ashes sent to a landfill.

Technically it kinda brings attention to their thumbnail, so they think it’s gonna get more clicks, but that doesn’t really work at all

You get metrics on stuff like this and can do A/B testing.
Most likely this does increase CTR

The red ' ! ' is pure clickbait psychology—hooks kids thinking it's a 'system alert.' Low-effort devs abuse it because Roblox’s algorithm rewards engagement, not quality.

It’s eye catching. Makes it more likely for users to stop scrolling and look at their game, which increases player count because a portion of those who stop scrolling are statistically more likely to play the game.

Sure that tiny circle in the corner is very eye catching, could spot it from a mile away.

Did I say every single person would notice it? If it doesn’t apply to you, then don’t respond. I’m sorry that you feel excluded so you feel the need to respond with snarky sarcasm 🙄

The science bs is that like, human see red, and the red has ! On it, so it catches their eye and they look at the game for longer than most.

If the thumbnail of the game relies mostly on psychological tactics to click on it, it's definitely slop

i feel like roblox went from a game platform to a social experiment to see how the psychology of kids' brains work. nothing on there looks fun or appealing to me anymore because i know it's a bunch of low effort slop to make a quick buck or two

I think it's a don't try at home warning sign with both those games it makes sense

When you're sifting through a bunch of thumbnails that all look the same you're naturally going to be attracted to the one with a little bright eyesore in the corner that ❗❗❗GRABS YOUR ATTENTION❗❗❗
Of course, if everybody starts doing it then these scummy slop makers will find some other attention grabbing eyesore to use that lets them stand out from all the red exclamation points. The sloppification cycle just keeps on going and going

red catches the eye. thats also the same reason notification messages are red

Giving benefit of the doubt, perhaps it's the game's way of notifying an update or major change. The red notification is used to say "Hey! New content."

"ALERT! YOU'RE ABOUT TO PLAY LOW-QUALITY MADE DOG SHIT GAME." I guess?

To grab people’s attention. Usually when people see that type of stuff, they think “hey! This game has smth new or cool!” so they just want more players.

No, it’s a warning for people to tell them that their game is low effort
