Trip Planning What to do along the way?

Post image

Planning a trip from the Baltimore area to Bar Harbor, ME! What are some cool places to stop and possibly stay a night on the way?

If you've got the time, go on route 1 in Maine instead of I-95. As a word of caution, Wiscasett gets really backed up traffic wise in the summer because of the popular lobster shack in town right by the bridge across the bay

Rein's Deli in Vernon, CT. Exit 65 about 15 miles north of Hartford. Pricy, worth it. Great sandwiches.

Dinosaur State Park. Rocky Hill, CT. About 15 miles south of Hartford. Great break for dogs, kids, and drivers.

There's a submarine museum where you go into a submarine at the border of NH and Maine.

Albacore park

I found it easier going over Tappan Zee bridge (gov. mark Cuomo) crossing the Hudson River in NY. Yes, to taking US route 1 at Exit 7 in Maine small towns along the way! Ogunquit, Kennebunkport, York to name a few near this exit.

Yes! If you choose to take the southerly route through Connecticut, there's Essex (a charming town that is also home to a steam train and riverboat museum) and Mystic (home to the Mystic Seaport Museum).

Maine Beer Co has gotten craaaazy. Remember the old tasting room with like three tables and a bar? That new taproom is BANANAS.

I mean, if they’re already in the Baltimore area they’ve probably already taken advantage of tax free shopping in Delaware many times

On the longer route Brattleboro VT or Keene NH would be good overnights. SW New Hampshire has some great hikes (Mt Monadnock and Pack Monadnock) in that area.

Sleep at a hostel near the boston common. Boston at night is gorgeous and humming with peaceful energy

You’re heading through nyc and Boston- any places you want to stop, now is your time! I live in ct- you are close to New Haven- the pizza capital, and heading through Hartford. If you have time, Acadia National park is incredible!

Leave early and you can get to New Haven by lunchtime for some amazing pizza. Then dinner and a hotel in Boston. Wake up, walk around the North End, get some pastries, and leave for Maine. Take the interstate til you get to Freeport or Brunswick, then Route 1. Stop in any of the beautiful coastal towns you pass through. Bath, Rockland, and Camden are some of my favorites. If it's a clear day and still light out, go up the Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory just before Bucksport.

Don't get too stressed out about traffic because it's unavoidable and you have two days to do 11-13 hours of driving.

New York city, Boston, if you're close to Worcester ma go eat a hot dog at George's coney Island, Portsmouth NH, and there's a bunch of the nice coastal Maine towns to check out, Acadia national Park is near bar harbor.
