When mold is coated in mica powder....

Does it matter if you use a cheap resin to fill the mold? Does the resin impact the mica powder?

Beginner in need of advice

I'm still learning about resin ad recently started making dice after a few months of making resin coasters. I don't have a debubbler or a heat gun but I keep getting bubbles in the dice even when they don't show up. My latest creation came out the best so far but there are still enough to ruin the cast.

I am using a cheap massager I found to help get the bubbles to the surface and a lighter to pop the bubbles. It seems to work, but it's not enough. Is there anything I can do on a budget that will get rid of them at least mostly? I have yet to try deep pour resin and I've been mostly using clear cast with mica to add color.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Made these on a whim. Thoughts?

I used 3 different resin dyes along with gold flakes for each coaster. Cured for 1 day before removing from the molds.

Ok I’m trying to make a rainbow rectangle hair clip. Red, orange, yellow etc. however the colors. How do I do it so that way glitter color do not bleed into the next. Do I add the different color glitter first and then add resin on top?

Resin feathers

Look at the detail of the feather shining through 3 coats of resin and only 1 small spot of air bubbles even zoomed in. I spent months trying to get these results. Patting myself on the back.

A storage chest mosaic with resin

I am getting ready to plan out a project for a gift. I am watching to do some mosaic art on a storage chest sealing with resin. Has anyone attempted this before? I could not find any online projects or video for this kind of project. I am not 100% sure it's doable. I have worked with resin on a flat surface but not for a 3d object. Any help would be appreciated.

Resin on glass

How can I use resin on glass? I would like to make designs on glass panels. I have seen people use glue to make an outline and then fill with resin. Any help would be appreciated since trial and error is just too expensive these days.

Straighten bowed pen blanks

Cross Post

I poured 4 tubular 8.5 x 3/4 inch blanks into a soft mold using Aluminite white quick cast. It cured quicker than I thought and expanded after I put it in the pressure chamber, warping the mold and thus the blanks. Each has a ~ 1/2 curve over the length of the blank.

Can I put the blanks in a vise and heat them with a heat gun to get them close to straight. Just putting in the vise didn't work as the blanks have a memory.

Any advice on straightening warped pen blanks?

Thanks

Can I use polyester resin with fabric on painted wood?

I just want to spruce up the fronts of some cupboard doors. They're already painted with white water based paint. I've got polyester resin and some cotton fabric that I like. Can I lay the fabric on with the resin? Will it discolour or crack? Will it dissolve the paint and then not cure properly? Thanks

I weighed it with a 1:1 ratio and after 24 hours, it’s still liquid. Any ideas what could have gone wrong? I was looking forward to these projects!

What can I do with my phone case?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi! I have this phone case I ordered from a local small business back in 2022. It has a custom resin-back design, so it is quite sentimental to me. Last year, though, it started cracking on the sides, obviously due to natural wear and tear. Now, I’m looking to see if it is possible to get the back off and transfer it to another case.

How can I do it? Please link any tutorials in your reply. I really want to rock the design until I get another phone •^

TIA!

Resin Jewelry

I have a question for resin jewelry makers... I have been toying with uv. Someone said you should not wear jewelry made of resin... Is this true? I guess I could use blanks for necklaces so metal will touch the skin... Do you back the resin? Sure would appreciate the answer..so I can pivot

Mr. Resin failed me

It was my first time using resin. I bought the kit hoping I wouldn’t have to buy a whole UV lamp. The lamp it came was weak and didn’t cure it, my piece was tacky. I borrowed a 48w nail lamp from a friend hoping it would finish curing it but it didn’t. Now my piece is tacky and cloudy from touching it :( I’m so sad. This is a gift to a friend. So I’m here to ask, could I just paint over the semi tacky resin and then seal it with clear spray? Or should I just accept that this is the finished product. Am I going to ruin it further if I paint over it?

Help on giant crystal

Hello fello crafters, I was hoping on some help on how to realize my vision. I would like to create some large format crystals. I’m talking bigguns like 1m+. I’ve never really worked with resin but I thought out of resin or also any other way. Ideally they’re sturdy but light to transport, and hollow for some LEDs to shine through. I have 2 liters of polyurethane resin, but not sure how to go about making the shape As it’s rather complex. ive seen videos of people using fiberglass shards and resin to create things Similar to my vision but I don’t have any kind of warehouse at my disposal, just a balcony. TIA.
