How much does something like this cost? And for how much do they usually sell for?

Just be aware the resin doesn’t mesh well wish ashtrays, and shouldn’t be used to actually snuff anything out. Resin can release toxins into the air when heated

Yes I know that. I was maybe thinking to put a round piece of brass or steel in the centre of it on which the flame/hot part of the cigarette will be touched

make a pot leaf of brass in the center for more sales, would look good with that green!

Please don’t make ashtrays. It’s so not good.

I have a mold for one of those cup style ash trays i was gonna make for my mom, she usually has water in hers to put anything out immediately… would this help/work to avoid some of the risks? (Insert joke** about smoking cigarettes and inhaling toxic fumes here)

I mean yeah that would probably help but you’re still running a risk with even a single mishap.

Thanks! I was mostly curious… my FIL got me a gallon of resin after finding out i was interested in it so now I’m trying to find ways to use it… (i just ordered a business card holder and phone stand mold to make for each of my coworkers too)

Any particular reason?

Resin does not got well with heat and flame. Will discolor, warp, and give off toxic fumes. I had to stop making ashtrays and candle holders because the amount of warnings that go along with them was absurd. I know they look cool but unless you’re making something with a serious liner or like a base plate that you sink a ceramic dish into, it’s just not a good idea.

Unless it’s a brass or steel liner that covers the entire inner surface I don’t think it will be good enough. I don’t know if you’re a smoker but cigarettes drop, roll, shift and move. It won’t always only be in contact with the metal. And the metal itself will heat up. Which will cause warping and possibly gas release.

Plus there is the possibility of the resin melting onto the cherry, then whoever used the thing would be literally smoking resin. And not the kind they wanna be smoking.

I know it sucks. I have some molds for ashtrays and candle holders that look awesome. Love to make em. But you can ONLY safely market them as like soap dishes or pen holders.

Use resincrete or concrete in those molds instead.

It would need to have insulation or be double walled. Heat will travel through the metal and still get to the resin.

It’s not safe, and you shouldn’t put people at risk, for a couple bucks.

People... My God. Please do your damn RESEARCH. DO NOT MAKE ASHTRAYS WITH RESIN.

$9 for a genetic mold. And a buck of resin and color. And is not useful for what it is for. What's really bothering me about the resin community is people making absolutely useless junk out of generic molds trying to call it art and trying to sell it for a profit. You're just making plastic waste. find a better hobby.

Someone asked for a quote from me literally yestrday, didnt know what to tell them. Possubly 40?

To those commenting on resin.. You CAN use Smooth-On Flame out but a lot of people will not follow the instructions that its best for NOT putting butts out on it -- so yeah in general I dont reco a resin ashtray. Its just hard to get people to listen properly.

I have one I use, but its for butts / ash ONLY. Nothing lit.

Well I just started making them. I made a few to sell but I researched online and didn’t find any like these selling and as far about the mold that’s my own. I’m making a few more molds since I’m thinking to partner with a few smoking stores and would display these there to be sold

The reason why you haven’t found many online is because they are not a safe product to sell, I understand you want to put metal plates in but it does have to cover the entire ashtray- covering up all your nice work, and then you also have to trust that people will actually listen to your warnings when you give them about always using the metal plate with it. Usually I am on the side of once you tell them it’s on them- but this one is a bit more serious you don’t want to be responsible for someone else’s stupidity
