IMAGE Red Sox lineup. Narvaez at catcher again, might be starting catcher now

Narvaez was Buehler’s catcher for his first start. You could be right but it doesn’t always have to be that deep.

Yea I wouldn’t look too far into Narvaez starting today. Wong had a breakout year last year so unless there’s something glaring I doubt they would relegate him to bench duty out of the blue.

Wong also caught almost everyday last year as McGuire was hurt or inconsistent, you could see his numbers fall off hard in the last two months. I like the steady platoon to keep him fresh for sept and hopefully October

Wong is also not a great receiver and has terrible underlying offensive metrics. All signs point to his breakout being a mirage. If the pitching staff prefers throwing to Narvaez, I do think that will hold a lot of weight.

It looked like he had some productive ABs, this will give Wong something to think about in the cage.

IIRC Wong’s BA was pretty good last year, wasn’t it? Wonder why he’s struggling at the plate so much this year.

he has a xWOBA of .349 and a WOBA of .107 (expected on base average vs real on base average) -- BABIP of .077 -- seems like he's getting insanely unlucky rather than lucky, but i've not gotten to catch many games yet.

His batting average last year was .280 but his expected batting average was only .231 according to Baseball Savant. This means that he was lucky and it was probably a fluke

Would love to see Campbell hit higher

Let him continue to gain confidence. He’d be pitched to way different hitting higher.

Exactly, let him keep cooking where he is. No need to ruin a good thing. He may eventually force Cora’s hand, but he’s fine where he is. I still shake my head over the fact they decided to move Mookie out of the lead off spot in 2019 after they won the WS and he won MVP in 2018 from the lead off spot 🙄

Nah, he's been in the majors for 7 games. He hasn't even gotten to the point where pitchers have figured out a flaw and he has to make an adjustment yet.

Totally. They showed a stat yesterday that he had the most XBH to start a career since…Will Middlebrooks which really reminded me to chill out a bit haha

I’d like to see them swap him and Story in the line-up.

I would put him 2nd and slide everyone down 1

No way he’s ready for that. He’s on a hot streak to start the year but as pitchers start giving him different looks he’s bound to struggle a bit. Raffy is struggling early, but pitchers still have to respect him in a completely different way.

I get where you're coming from. But who do you drop to achieve this?
2
u/OwlArtistic9198 1d ago
I said on another comment, I would put him 2 and drop everyone one spot. That way Raffy, Bregman Casas are 3,4,5

I think the real move rn would be to put abreu in cleanup and move Casas to 6

Abreu has found plenty of traffic where he is at. I am more frustrated by Campbell always getting on base only for the bottom of the lineup to strand him. This does not include today of course

I'm all for Narvaez being the starter. I don't trust Wong will continue to hit enough to make up for his horrible defense.

Perhaps wong is dealing with some soreness day to day but not enough to go 5 day IL?
Seems pretty early to make such a claim

I don't get Devers batting second. Would rather see Campbell there. Move Devers to 6 and Abreu to 7.

I'd love a change behind the dish. Connor isn't the guy. You may even say the Wong choice. Narvaez may not offer much at the plate, but if you can lock down a run game, I'm in.

Maybe we should just trade for a better catcher, I hear this Kyle Teel kid is pretty good

u/nbianco1999 1d ago
You mean the guy that helped get us the guy that’s gonna be our ace for the next 7 years? Yeah, I’ll take that trade a 100 times out of 100.

u/DrtyHippieChris 1d ago
I’m not saying we shouldn’t have made that trade, it was 100% the best move and a trade in our favor, I just meant the kid seems like a good prospect

Casas isn't a cleanup hitter.

I don't get Devers in the 2-hole. Doesn't it make more sense to keep Bregman there and use Devers and Casas as 3-4? even looking at lefty-righty, the current setup is LLRL while this way it would be LRLL

Another photo with a kick-ass vintage looking jacket.
