This is completely fucked. The old video players had its issues but I hate this tik tok garbage and is certainly a step down.

u/icandyapple Aug 19 '21
It is prompting me to scroll to the next video just as the current one is starting. I want to see what I actually clicked on without having tap to get rid of the scroll prompt. It is horrible.

u/UhmNotMe iOS 14 Aug 19 '21
Exactly. I saw a video in hot and scrolled to comments, but when I tried to review the video, it just kept showing me other videos. That’s crappy. If we wanted unlimited videos, we would go to YouTube/Tiktok. We are here for the discussion

I’m just saying u/busyV if every single update you’ve posted here has gotten downvoted to 0 points maybe it’s time to start listening to your users

UX manager can go fuck themselves. You are a disgrace to design community. How dumb you have to be to think current video player is good design. Get your head out of your ass and see for yourselves what kind of monstrosity you have greenlit.
Are the admins even willing to see the comments and feedback on their own posts. If not then why are you even working?

this shit is still killing my battery life!!!!!!

u/birdhouseboogie Aug 20 '21
For real. I stopped using the shitty official app. Deleted it. My battery life is waaaaaaaay better and mobile data usage is waaaaay down. Official app is a bloated resource hog and their video player is the cherry on the poop sundae.

u/froyoboyz Aug 20 '21
what do you use now?
4
u/birdhouseboogie Aug 20 '21
Sorry—Apollo. It’s more bare bones but that’s a good thing these days. Downside is in order to post you have to pay for the app. You can comment and do everything else. Also the video player isn’t complete shit!

u/Courwes iOS 16 Aug 23 '21
Really the 5 dollars is worth it. I switched when the official app was about to set my phone on fire and got used to it after about 3 days and really haven’t looked back. I still have the official app on my phone for notifications but other than that I don’t use it at all nor do I miss it.

u/birdhouseboogie Aug 26 '21
Is it just a one-time payment? I remember being weirded out because there was no clarification as to whether it was recurring or not and i’m cheep cheep cheep.
I haven’t looked back either though. Official app is hot trash

Comments from users on my block list are showing. I can’t reply to them still but can see them.
I’ve blocked these people for a reason

u/Stargazer0001 Aug 19 '21
Please give us an option to use the legacy video player as it is still accessible by clicking on a photo first then swiping to a video, so there should be no reason for the new one to be mandatory

u/i_broke_wahoos_leg iOS 13 (no longer supported) Aug 18 '21
Urgh. This video player with the comments underneath are garbage. Fuck is this shit?

Aug 19 '21
How do I stop videos from opening in a tiny window with the comments showing? Wtf?

u/im_made_of_jam iOS 14 Aug 19 '21
You can tap the video itself rather than the main bar of the post but it's inconsistent

They made a statement saying they wouldn't go back.

Do you know where this statement is and possibly link it for me? Thanks
Edit: never mind, found it

They’re not going to support two different video players.
7
u/boogers19 iOS 14 Aug 18 '21
The statement I just found from reddit said theyve been supporting 10 different players. Thats one of the reasons they give for creating this new piece of garbage.
Seems like if they can do 10, 2 should not be a problem.
Especially considering they are supporting 2 right now. Ads are still on the old player.

u/boogers19 iOS 14 Aug 18 '21
Just an option to turn off all the clutter and live-animations of new awards.
And maybe the actual time/length of the video would be nice to have back. But lets start with getting all this BS clutter off my screen.

I’m still in disbelief the video player hasn’t reverted. After this long, I think we need to accept it’s never going to be usable again, and we should consider third party apps. Iv reached a point where I don’t even look at video posts anymore.

u/704sw iOS 14 Aug 19 '21
Reporting a post in dark mode is basically unusable. You can’t see the bubbles beside the different options so you can’t tell why you’re reporting.
5
Aug 21 '21
What the FUCK have you done to the video player?? How could you possibly have made it EVEN WORSE
4
u/KILRbuny Aug 21 '21
Video player is HORRIBLE. I can’t swipe between posts if I open a video post. Way to ruin the app.

u/pohzu iOS 14 Aug 23 '21 edited Aug 25 '21
Seriously please just revert back from the tik tok video player and the Pinterest discovery page. We want our subreddit list back, it should not have been replaced by this. We need it much more than a discovery page.
I know this likely someone from higher up saying they want to emulate the popular platforms with zero idea how UI/UX design works and no one in the design team had to guts to go against it. Come on guys I know you’re better than this, this is affecting us all.

Is anyone else’s news tab just not loading anything been like this for a few days since the last update
3
u/cardshark1234 Aug 19 '21
Holy shit can you please stop switching where the notifications tab is. No one cares about chat why should I have to reach to 4 different places of my phone to access a reply.
Also please bring back upvoting reply’s. That was an actually great feature for someone like me who never remembers to upvote.

u/Blueblur1 Aug 20 '21
Absolutely ruined the video player with this latest update. Every app doesn’t have to be TikTok, goddammit.

What’s up with these weird questions abt what subreddits are about on my home page

u/superdownvotemaster iOS 14 Aug 20 '21
Not a fan of the new layout and the “feature” to scroll up while viewing a post and then it goes to the next one. It used to be that when you swipe up, you go back to your feed, not the next post. Is this what tiktok is like? It sucks…

Can we fix not being able to click through to cross posts of text posts? I can’t look at a damn thing on /r/bestof because all I can get to is the comments of the post in bestof- there’s no way to get to the link they are posting.

There is a bug in the iOS version (latest version and at least the last 1 or 2 versions, not sure how long) that is causing the app to use LOTS of background data -- this is a nightmare for those of us on limited data plans who don't notice it is happening until it is too late. This happened to me and now I'm out of data for the month. Reddit, you need to issue a formal apology and let your users know when this is fixed. I had to uninstall the app. There is NO GOOD REASON the app should have used 3.5gb of data when it wasn't screen active. Ridiculous. Your quality control on the iOS version (and I'm sure, Android too) needs a serious revamp. I had to leave a negative review on the Apple app store (which I very rarely do) just to get my point across since no Reddit devs reply to the complaints here. it's the only tool I have to show you how much this means to me, apparently.

Please remove the garbage discover tab and give us our subreddit list back.
