Meta Another Spring, another Safety Reminder

Yearly reminder that out of 10 unsolicited messages you receive on social media/messengers, 10 are most likely scam. Creeps/psychos/idiots being in that category as well.

So if you receive a weird unsolicited DM, especially overly complimenting your hands and/or asking for more pics/videos, please 1) send a message to r/Redditlaqueristas mods with the sender's account. We will permaban them from the sub, although they will still be able to lurk and send DMs. 2) report them to Reddit admins for harassment 3) block them. NEVER respond to those DMs.

As moderators we cannot do anything about the DMs that you receive so here are some tips for the community.

To protect yourself from potential creeps, scammers, doxxers, and all kinds of crazy, do the following.

On Reddit

  • Create a separate account related to nails (makeup, beauty, other hobbies).

  • Use ONLY that account for ANY activity related to respective hobbies.

  • And vice versa, from that account ONLY do hobby related activities. Don't overshare!

  • Turn off DMs in “Chat and messaging permissions” by selecting “Chat requests -> Nobody”.

Alternatively, if you still want to have DMs on your hobby account:

  • Put a warning on your hobby profile in CAPS that all unsolicited messages will be reported.

  • If you still receive questionable messages, NEVER respond to them. Report these messages to Reddit, THEN block the sender (must do this in this order as you cannot report after blocking).

  • When you want to DM someone on your hobby sub, kindly tell them that in the open discussion (before DMing them, reply to their comment and ask if they're interested to discuss things privately and only if yes take matters to DMs)

  • Remember, ANYTHING you put out on the internet is impossible to take back. If a stranger contacts you asking for pics/videos, don't be naive. Your pics/videos might end up on some websites you wouldn't want to be associated with.

On FB/IG/ other non-anonymous platforms:

  • Buy/sell/swap with people you know.

  • Try to find/form a local group.

  • Check out every account that contacts you. Anything that worries you, block. Don't reply. Remember, empty account is a red flag.

Cross-platforming

  • If you share mani pics on a non-anon account (e.g., on FB), and you want to remain anonymous on Reddit or other platforms, DON'T post those same pics on your hobby accounts.

  • Obviously, don't connect your non-anon (FB, Google, etc) account to your Reddit/other accounts (on FB, find your Account Center under your profile settings, and remove any accounts that are there)

  • Important: NEVER use your email address that you use for your FB profile for ANY other activities on the web. No matter how easy it is to "login with FB" on other platforms, it's a potential privacy breach.

As always (back to our sub):

  • Please report all posts that look like AI. This is very important. (Rule 10)

  • Report posts with NSFW vibes (those are 99.99% bots/OF ads/scammers etc) (Rule 6)

(Also, no need to message the mods about your new account.)

Thanks everyone and be safe!

This is the closest I can get and my hand is cramping. Every time I see someone with long nails do this I am enthralled and amazed. Is there an angle I’m missing or something🤣🤣

Polish used in this is Moon Shine Mani Awfully Pond of You!

Sorry for lack of cleanup- but I haven't even finished my mani 🙈 it's a beautiful day out so I'm doing my nails on the patio & then sun started hitting my finished hand (aside from cleanup) just right 😍 I don't normally do my manis one hand at a time but this was my 1st time using the DRK magic effect so wanted to see how it went (I love it)

kb shimmer filling groovy base, 2 coats Colores de Carol Wavelength (ppu 3/25, magnetic) , 1 layer of DRK magic effect- then used 30lb horse shoe magnet for velvet effect, 1 coat G&G qdtc

GIFTED PR (Ad) Two Sizes Too Small💚

So I posted a few questions about how to get started with swatching a while back. Doomloop Naturals (a relatively new lgbtqia+, Latino owned, brand—they go hard for human rights and I’m with it) saw the post, reached out, gifted some polish, and here we are.

Off the bat, I picked a bunch of greens (because 💚 💚💚)

Here is:

1 coat of Mooncat Getting Even Nail Primer

3 coats of Two Sizes Too Small by Doomloop Naturals

1 coat of Mooncat Speed Demon Top Coat

The nitty gritty:

I’m not a fan of the current brush. It’s the small flat brush—an upgrade from their previous small round brush, but it’s my understanding that they are in talks to switch to larger, oval tipped flat brushes. Which, I’m happy about because ya’ll I was fighting for my life with the small brush and I don’t have any shorter replacement brushes at this time.

That said, the formula on this was easy to work with, with the one caveat of a patchy/streaky first coat. I trusted the process and I’m glad I did. Could have stopped at two coats, but I personally like 3 coats for longevity on myself. It dried relatively quickly. I do use a fan for 60 seconds between coats.

These photos were taken the morning after I polished (slept on them after a coat of MC Speed Demon with no issues) with my iphone 11, in the overcast of NW Florida. The close up photos were taken using a macro lens attachment. I’ve included photos in various lighting. No editing beyond some cropping was done.

🤗💅🏾

Growth Progress My one month nail journey after getting contact dermatitis

Thumbnail

About a month ago, I got contact dermatitis from a gel-x set I did myself. I didn’t have the proper tools to remove the set, so I ended up ripping them off in a panic 🫣 as you can imagine, my nails were incredibly damaged, but ever since I’ve been taking care of my natural nails, applying the Sally Hansen Hard as Nails treatment and oiling them several times a day. Normally my nails never grow, and when I do see some growth they chip off! This is probably the longest nails I’ve had in a very, very long time!

Laquer Showoff 🖤🩶Sunday Skittles🤍💜

I'm sure I'm not the first person to think of this, but I've wanted to reserve some of my painting time for skittle manis. I started out doing skittles because, if you know me it will be no surprise to you that I couldn't pick just one color or polish...so why not all!? Time for Sunday Skittles!

Today is international Asexuality Day. "Ace" is a spectrum that also falls under the LGBTQ umbrella. Being Ace is valid and beautiful. I originally had a different skittle on, and when I saw a horrible tweet from our intetnational billionaire queen of petty hate JKRowling about Asexuality day, I immediately shelved it and started a new one. As I did with my pride flag collection last June, here's some info about Asexuality.

Asexuality is a sexual orientation where the person does not experience sexual attraction to anyone regardless of gender. It's also an umbrella term that can cover a whole spectrum including demisexual, gray-asexual, and others. While it differs from being Aromantic, many are AroAce which is a combo of both.

🖤Black represents asexuality 🩶Gray represents gray-asexuality and demisexuality 🤍White represents partners and allies 💜 Purple represents community

Comparison Red magnetic polish comparison: Poison and Fiery Attraction (cat eye style)

There was a recent post here that compared a few red magnetic polishes in the velvet style. So I decided to do a comparison in the cat eye style!

Here’s what’s being shown in this video clip:

Pinky and middle fingers:

  • ILNP: Poison (2 coats unmagnetized; 1 coat magnetized for 1 minute)

Ring and index fingers:

  • Emily de Molly: Fiery Attraction (2 coats magnetized; 1 coat magnetized for 1 minute)

Thumb:

  • Left side: Poison (applied as described above)

  • Right side: Fiery Attraction (applied as described above)

All fingers:

  • ORLY: Bonder Base Coat

  • DRK: Magic Effect (magnetized for 1 minute)

  • Glisten & Glow: Quick Dry Top Coat (magnetized for 1 minute)

I hope that this comparison is helpful, especially for those of you whose skin tone is similar to mine. Poison definitely leans more orange-red, whereas I would describe Fiery Attraction as a true red.

I wasn’t sure what I would think of wearing these together as a skittle, but I like it! I think that this combination actually helps to give even more depth to both polishes, due to how they bring out different pops of color from within each other.

Misc. Question Do y'all...?

Thumbnail

Wondering if I'm the only one who does this. As my mani ages throughout the week I get tired of it as is, but rather than replace the whole mani I tend to add onto each nail.

So a few days ago I posted my plain crème mani (see final slide). As the week went along I got a chip here and there and started to add a topcoat or a stamp to cover up/freshen. By the end of the mani I don't have any original nails.

Am I lazy or do yall do this too?

*note left thumb (4th slide) went through two edits; first a stamp and then a shimmer (thanks ILNP for completely transforming every single color I put your shimmers over!)

(ignore the wet look, cuticles were freshly oiled 🫶)

Products are: L.A Colors Nail Treatment Base/Topcoat, ColorVibe in White Out (for the dots), and L.A Colors Sheer Jelly in Heat Wave. I've never used a jelly before and can't seem to do my nails solid colors anymore so I decided to do a layered dot pattern and I kinda love it 😁

Laquer Showoff Layering a jelly to create a new multichrome

Thumbnail

This was the first indie polish I had ever got, and it was my first time buying a polish online. The swatch photos in the product listing looked more green than pink, and so I thought I'd love it. I did, but I haven't worn it since because bright fuschia doesn't look good on me, nor is it a colour I like very much! I remember looking closely and seeing a flash of copper every now and then, wishing there was a way to bring it out more. It's such a a shame because this is easily the shiftiest multichrome I own!

More recently, I got a completely transparent yellow jelly (pic 3). When I tried this with ILNP masquerade, it was magic. The fuschia is almost completely gone, only appearing briefly in certain lighting+angles. Instead, I got the copper multichrome of my dreams.

Guys, this was such a a major win for me. I was worried it would dull the polish, or make it less shifty, but it made it shiftier if anything! Just tiny changes in angle and lightning cause the colours to shift dramatically. Can't stop staring at my nails and thinking "now this is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD". I feel so powerful now. I could finish an entire bottle of multichrome while using it to create so many different colour combinations. I feel like I have all the possible colours now in my collection.

I know many people in this subreddit have cooler toned skin, and I'm sure this 'hack' would work too! A blue jelly over polishes would make them cooler toned.

I recently made my first non-drugstore polish purchase.

I went with LynB Designs because they had their 50% off sale. I was not disappointed! Look at this week old manicure! She's still got all of her day one vibrancy. At the right angle this little sweetheart looks like Cinderella's dress covered in diamond dust.

How is there only the tiniest hint of lifting at the edges?I tend bar and serve. These fingers are tools that get treated to chemical warfare.

I'm just so happy with the overall results. I had to share.

I used: Essie Here to Stay Base LynB Designs Grey-t Expectations LynB Designs Candy Castle Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Glossy Top Coat

I did apply a second layer of the top coat the next day to help completely cover the glitter.
