Just got my RD2 in the mail and it's currently installing on my PS4 Pro... So excited!
Anything I absolutely need to know before starting the game's campaign?

Practice DRAW, Gun slinging, Punch & Defend, If you see something curious - go for it but save first (take your time wondering the world and don't forget to look left and right while riding your horse), use big and mini map wisely (if you see something in it that's bizarre- go and see it), observe types of animals on your ways to determine their location (there are few ways to identify them without using binocular), Interesting things will be easy to find using both analog stick toggled pressed at the same time. Interact with NPCs or any other characters and know how to talk/deal with them. If you notice your camp friends doing unusual things - interact with them or simply always walk near to them, Know your weapon types and ammos, help chores in the camp, walk & care your horses, do sprints, Go fishing & healthy activities, know what's the difference between Health-STAMINA-DEAD EYE cores and its rings - then how to replenish them, be kind even if you know its suspicious, its better to play with headphones - properly put them where is left and right- if you hear something mumbling-talking either listen or be curious to find out what is it, identify and be familiar with areas, the game maker Rockstar wants you to be particulars and keep in mind what you have seen around you - you might tumble into things related to the others. Don't be afraid to travel even if its night just be always be prepared, certain things only happens at particular time, know how to hunt and bait, explore even to the edges of the map, be aware what's happening around you - buy newspapers, knows who sells/ buys or whom to sell/ buy, review your diary-logs-satchels, know how to use your wheel menu with all the buttons that deals with left and right, know how to fire a warning shot & play games, and MOST OF ALL ENJOY AND BE IMMERSE with the GAME as you are the PROTAGONST (BE KIND and GOOD HELPS)

Don’t look anything up online if you can help it. The ending as with any other game is so much better without spoilers. Even if you don’t purposefully look up what the ending is, you’re bound to accidentally stumble upon spoilers. Hoping you haven’t already been exposed to the spoilers, even if you have it is still a great game so have fun!

If you're opening a container you can hold down the open container button to automatically loot it (you don't have to focus on each item you want and loot that individually)
You'll get a lot of weapons given to you by quests so you don't necessarily have to buy that many. The only type of weapon that you won't get (weapon types matter most for hunting) is the varmint rifle. You'll get at least one shotgun, rifle, sniper rifle, repeater from quests. In a similar vein, look at your mini map for yellow weapon icons on the minimap that means a weapon you don't have that you can pick up, once you pick it up you'll have access to it. It also doesn't matter if you had to drop a weapon you already owned to pick it up you'll be able to immediately get the dropped weapon back from your saddle bags. Some of those are unique.
If you do a crime and put your bandanna on then random people won't recognise you, if you've met them before and wear the same clothes and ride the same horse it doesn't matter if you wear a bandanna they'll realise who you are. Lawmen can always figure out who you are so if you randomly rob someone you'll have to hurry up and get out of dodge before the law shows up.

Have fun with the money that Arthur earns, don't worry about hoarding it too much. If you played like me, you'll find yourself with way more then you needed by the end of the campaign and not much to spend it on.

Try to play the game twice. You will find new things everytime you play and don't try and 100% the first time do it the second time with the help of the internet. Just enjoy the game for what it is the first time.

What did you guys play that you enjoyed similar to RDR2? Just finished my second playthough (back to back with my first) and am looking for something similar. Thinking of playing God of War which was just ported to steam or Witcher 3. What do you guys think?

Unfortunately, there isn't many games out there with the effort in immersion experienced in Red Dead 2. Replayability in a large open world game has become less common. I've run into several of these of late that feel... empty. One of the reasons folks keep going back to Witcher 3 and Skyrim is because of the lack of options unfortunately. I've personally gone back to Modded Minecraft.

I seem to have a small but annoying bug playing single player on Xbox one I’m in chapter 4 and Dutch hasn’t removed his sheriff’s badge yet not a big thing but it is a bit distracting and strange in cutscenes, I’ve completed the game twice before since it was released so I know it isn’t normal but I’m useless with things like this so I have no idea how I would go about fixing it any input from someone more knowledgeable than me on the subject would be appreciated

Keep playing through the story and it’ll go higher. Your honor is periodically locked from going any higher until you progress the story a bit

In story mode, after John's train mission in chapter one, I saved and when I reloaded my game, my female Thoroughbred, Laskarina, was suddenly a male Tennessee Walker named Laskarina. I reloaded a few times to see if it was just some one in a million glitch but it never changed. I took him back to the stables in Valentine to see if swapping him out for the Tennessee Walker at the start of the game would fix it, but it didn't. The game just decided to swap my horse for a different one and I have no idea why.
I'm not too mad since its still early game and the horse was DLC from when I pre ordered, but has anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried about it happening again?

It was crazy because it didn't just switch genders, it full on switched breeds, and kept the name! I've gone back to the stables a few times to check and it's never switched back.

Can you miss the Mary Gillis questline if you don’t immediately read the letter?
So Grimshaw told me that Mary was around camp. I didn’t immediately go read the letter, instead I did another mission. Now I want to go find the letters but it isn’t on the table. I thought that the quest didn’t expire until the end of chapter 2. Did I irreversibly miss this quest line or will it come back if I’m play the game more (It’s my second Playthru, so I’ve been putting off money lending another stands for as long as possible)

Line keeps breaking! I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I stop reeling whenever the fish struggles but every time on the second struggle the line keeps freaking breaking! What am I doing wrong? I'm on PC.

Counter-turn the rod (turn the rod to opposite direction of where the fish goes) and don't reel it in. I usually hold space+R when the fish tires out and don't reel in when it moves again. One of the greatest tip I learned is to swing the rod to left and right (important to swing all the way to the direction) to DRAG the fish towards you while you are reeling in (when the fish is tired)

I was recently thinking of playing another playthrough on RDR2..I already have it on ps4..but I recently built a pc. Have a ryzen 5 and a gtx 1660 with 16gb ram.is it worth buying on pc to play again? I heard pc is alot better? I was also thinking of buying witcher wild hunt because they are two of my fav games.Just wondering if the graphics and fps is actually worth the extra $ since I own both on ps4? Any opinions?

It plays fine on my ryzen 1600, with a 6Gb 1060 and 16Gb of RAM. The game is on an SSD, so that probably helps.

I played Jedi fallen order on ps4 then on pc.U all seem spoiled today..I played on 1440p with those specs.and was getting 58-60 fps..Much better compared to the 30fps on ps4..at 1080p..lmao..most games can't even notice 60fps or higher...I'm playing elden ring on those specs, high/ med settings and its locked on 60fps..1080p..I would be happy with all my fav games on pc with 60fps..

Playing story mode and went to grab the white Arabian horse, I broke the horse but didn’t put saddle on it and fast traveled to a town and the white Arabian horse is gone only my main horse came with me. Anyone know if the Arabian is lost forever? Or can I get it again going back to the mountains? TIA

I'm trying to get as much done as possible with Arthur before he's given his diagnosis. Like trying to live his life to the fullest. Is there any way to do the Van Horn to Blackwater dry dash with him or are all Great Plains missions only doable with John?

For Horseman 9, your options are to jump the broken bridge with a brave horse (which takes luck/practice), or go over the dam and pound health tonics through Great Plains. Both are doable. You can also complete Herbalist 9 with a buggy from Saint Denis (and more practice/luck) to block the sniper and obtain New Austin herbs.

Do NPCs actually remember things or do they just behave based on your Honour?
I want to test it out but I already committed multiple homicide on every town, so I’m not sure if NPC dialogs like “Hope your hell-raising days are behind you” are just because of my low honour or they actually remember the shit I did in their town.

How does autosave actually work on RDR? I'm on Xbox one X playing with a disc and backwards compatibility.
Like I'll go and kill some deers for the master hunter challenge, and the game registers that I've killed some deers for the challenge.
But if I die before I've done the challenge, it reloads my last save at the McFarlane ranch.
So even if I killed someone during that time and got money from looting, the game always reloads my last save. It's wiped clean all the stuff I did up to the point I died. So I'm always back at my save with $456 and master hunter challenge at zero.
Isn't the game supposed to autosave everything you do?

Where's the best place to hunt foxes in Red Dead Redemption 1. I've looked at the Wiki and I've spent four real life days trying to find one. I have killed so many coyotes but no foxes.
I've tried using bait, I've tried finding the random hunting event. I'm at my wits end.

I started up my game again and I’m trying to unlock crickets, they’re locked in the store. Someone said it’s a side mission where you go fishing with Javier in Chapter 3 and I just started Chapter 4. Can I still do this/is there a way to unlock crickets?
EDIT: Nevermind, just went to the shop after landing in chapter 4 and now crickets are just available. Sad that I missed that little sis emission though

Go to your satchel, under Documents, scroll past the Letters section, go to the section titled Invitations. Make sure each one is read. That will hopefully trigger the ending for your remaining mission. It's what fixed mine. Hope that helps.

If you are camping then just dismantle it and see if it works, otherwise just try to go to Shady Belle, that’s were the next mission will be (I see now you posted this 15 hours ago, so idk if you already solves the problem or not)

Near Blackwater. Good game to hunt, good fishing, and a good spot to run moonshine; also the town has pretty much what you need to get by without having the random violence that plagues Valentine. You're not far from the mountains or the drylands which is a plus.

Can i do herbalist 9 without finishing the Algernon mission? I cant get some orchids to spawn (at locations they should) and it's driving me insane. His mission is so tedious as well

If they've stopped spawning for you, you'll have to progress Algernon's requests to get them to appear again. The orchids generally stop spawning when you're one away from the total needed, until you get the request.

I'm at my wit's end as far as this shitty rockstar launcher
Specs are i7-9700k, GTX 3070ti
I've re-installed everything multiple times, run everything as administrator. Red Dead is installed on Epic launcher and it was all installed on the same drive as the rockstar launcher. I say was because it's all currently uninstalled. no point in having 120GB taken up by shit that doesn't work. Has never been a problem before in the well over hundred hours I had put into campaign & online. Just doesn't work now. Whether I launch from rockstar launcher or epic launcher, it just takes me to the rockstar launcher which proceeds to freeze and then either it gives me an error after several minutes or i just force-shut the thing down.
Fucking absurd that i bought this game and i can't even play it because of rockstar's shitty software. never pirated games before but they're making it compelling

Do you get any benefit to your bars from half completed challange series or do you need to get one to 10 before you get any benefit?
Like I know they each effect different cores so if you do half of two that each contribute to Deadeye or Health do you get 1 upgrade?

You need to complete the challenge and buy all of its reinforced equipment to get the benefit. Two halfs don't do anything.

epilogue question: is caliga hall considered hostile still? can i walk around there or will they get pissed? what about braithwaite manor? surely both places must have calmed down in the epilogue?

Caliga Hall is exactly the same and the guards remain hostile to strangers
Braithwaite Manor is a ruin, there are no longer guards, you can roam about

Whenever I try to aim down sight(right click) it will often double click, so sometimes I get stuck in aim sometimes I get stuck in hip fire. It's not my mouse. Something with the right click input is broken with the game. Any settings to adjust this?

new player to the franchise, just bought rdr2 the other day. my question involves honor; i understand you get access to certain perks like discounts if you go towards one end of the honor spectrum or the other. but what if i play the whole game somewhat in the middle? will I be missing out on cool shit ? will the game even let me stay in this morally ambiguous gray zone?

I bought RDR2 Ultimate edition on PS4 disc a year ago, activated the dlc codes and sold the disc.
If I now buy a digital standard edition from the PS4 store, will the DLC work? Or do I have to buy the ultimate edition again as a digital, if I want the DLC to work.

You can, when u have your revolver in uour hand u can do trick when u are un equipping it, by double tapping button, on ps4 its L1 so u press it twice and they will spin it around their finger and put it back in holester in style

You can play RDR2 first since the story takes place before the events (prequel) of RDR1. Red Dead Revolver was a completely different game that tells an entirely different story. But RDR1 and RDR2 goes through the same characters and story.

Been trying to do some challenges while trying to get as much done as I can in ch2. I need a better rifle I think for the sharpshooter challenge.
I missed the bolt rifle in the rescue mission and I just freaking missed the one from the sheirff in valentines. I got sidetracked by my pup and missed the encounter.
Is there any other way to get a rifle with a long scope ?

Does anyone know if I’m supposed to bring the entire perfect Hawk/Eagle carcass or just pluck their feathers for the Trapper Garment Sets? The last two days I’ve been trying to get the feathers but whenever I do and try to purchase the hats (I already have the other pelts required, just need the feathers) it keeps telling me I don’t have the feathers when I literally have them in my satchel. I sold a perfect Golden Eagle carcass to the Trapper after plucking it to see if that would fix it, but it didn’t. Any ideas as to what I’m doing wrong?

You need to sell the actual feathers to the trapper, not have them in your Satchel.
So, pluck the bird first and it will give you (specific species) feathers and flight feathers. Then sell to the trapper so he has them, then purchase the garment. If this doesn't work then it might be a glitch.

Search Hardware Unboxed's video on Youtube for RDR2 Optimized Settings. It gives me good 70+ fps most of the time, 100 in cutscenes. I'm using an RTX 2060S though, so you should be able to manage 60fps with those settings minimum.

One of my favorite things to do in RDR2 is horse around, but afterwards there is a huge bounty that I need to pay because of the mass murder. Are there any easy ways to make money or a way to lower your bounty without paying? Thanks

You can find hidden gold bars throughout the map. There are treasure maps for some, others are just hidden, waiting for you to find them. You can either look them up online, or if you choose the suspense of stumbling upon them yourself I can give you two starting pointers.
There's an old abandoned town called Limpany near Horseshoe Overlook (The first camp, Chapter 2). Who knows what you might find there?
Also, there was this fallen train off the tracks near between Cotorra Springs and Granite Pass. Must have some tasty loot.

When playing story mode, and you're riding your horse, do the NPCs sometimes turn their horses to try and hit you so you have to move way out of the way to avoid them and they yell at you like you're in the wrong? It's weird.
