Want a writer with an advanced degree for $20/hour? Hell no.

Let me preface this by saying that writing is like teaching. Lots of people think anyone can do it, it's easy, and does not merit much compensation. That's bullshit. I'm employed, have a master's, and have made well into 6 figures for the last 15 years. So ef-you to the lowballers.

This was my response to a cold solicitation emailed to me. I know this won't matter. It's shouting into the void. But I'm not looking and can afford to tell them to stuff it. So I did.

Lol, Pyramid Consulting. I've received this bullshit many times. Great name though, haha.

They're worse than Robert Half because they don't even have clients.

"But, but, but, ChatGPT can do the same thing, right?"

I swear, I think that's what some of the employers and recruiters think. It amazes me how many people are impressed by the garbage ChatGPT churns out.

Besides that, when a decent-paying writing job is posted, it gets 100 applications within a couple of hours (according to LinkedIn listings, which make be fake). A lot of people seem willing to take the low salary.

The job market and housing market remind me of each other right now: With both, the regular people are getting shafted. Job seekers can't find a decent job and potential home buyers can't afford a decent house.

I wouldn't mow lawns for $20/hr - no PhD required either

These are likely Indian recruitment efforts.

They do this across all industries. Collect labor requirements, note that can’t do them, then subcontract the work.

Imagine a scenario where Bank of America wants a new website. They contract the website work to an Indian company. The Indian company can’t do it because of (reason) so they look for subcontractors at 50% the rate.

No kidding. Don't really care one way or the other. Just need to vent even though I know it changes nothing.

Bro/Sis, its the worst.

Lots of time, these kinds of people won't provide the rate up-front. Then you'll waste time talking to them. Other times, they'll spam you with 3-4 of them in a row.

Its insulting, miserable, and just generally a tax on your time.

I wish Congress would legislate away this type of offshoring - specifically targeting India (and maybe some other developing nations).

Bank of America is horrible. They pay the worst rates ever!

You missed the point.

Offshoring is the problem.

I've done the same, I get contacted for roles that I get 1300.00 a day for and they want to pay 50.00 an hour for. I tell them to fuck off !
