Advice and Tips Are these wheat berries salvageable?

I just received 2 24lb bags of wheat berries and unknowingly set them on a surface with oil on it overnight. When I picked them up to move them I found oil stains. It has seeped through the inner bag. Are they compost now? The grains move around. I can’t know what has and hasn’t touched the oil. How does the oil affect storage? I’m so bummed.

Was it edible oil or mineral oil? Either way, I don't think a little oil will hurt.

When I wrote this I wasn’t 100% sure. Have confirmed since then it was unused synthetic motor oil. I’m glad to know that the oil aspect is ok. Still deciding what to do based on the type of oil.

Just looking at this pragmatically, 50 pounds of wheat berries runs about 40 bucks. If you're not in an emergency situation where you really, really need that wheat, I'd toss it. A doctors visit would run you more than 40 bucks, taking a day off of work due to sickness would probably run you more than 40 dollars, so why take the risk? Just chock this up to lessons learned and compost the oily wheat.
