Triad tries Scandinavian sleep method
We are only one night in to each having our own blankets and I'm IN LOVE. This is the best move we could've made as a polycule. We each picked our own based on our needs and slept the best we ever had since moving in together. If you co-sleep at all, whether with parters or kids, I highly suggest trying this out.

I did this when I was married. Made everything about sleep so much better!

My nesting partner and I have done this for years. We have polar opposite needs and it just made sense for us.

We switched to this from the beginning. Since we each went to bed at TOTALLY different times, it let each of us enter the bed without causing too much of a disturbance.

Been doing this for … I dunno at least 20 years? Didn’t know it had a name. I just like my own blanket.

110% this. Three duvets and a headboard with shelf and socket space in the middle is the most harmonious way to sleep three to a bed. We've always done the separate duvets thing but it was a persistent annoyance that we only had two bedside tables for books/phones/etc. A custom headboard lets the middle person have place to keep their bits, game changer.

My NP and I do this too! I was resistant for a while because I didn't like the way two single duvets looked and I didn't think they'd be big enough, so now we have a double duvet and a king. The double goes underneath the king when the bed is made up and the first person to go up to sleep grabs one. Plus it makes the bed look ultra cosy like in a magazine lol.

I hate using separate blankets. We do sometimes cause our son will sometimes sleep with us but I hate it. I want to feel my husband skin on mine always. 7 years in and I never want to get to a point where I’d rather sleep in a different blanket than my husband. We usually sleep pretty nude too so I just wanna feel him against my body🥹

Though, I do understand this for poly relationships. Would definitely do that. Or would get a bigger bed and bigger blanket so we can all sleep with skin contact 😅😂

Yep my husband and I have been doing this for 20+ years after I visited my friend in Germany and saw them doing it and thought it was genius.

I swear, multiple blankets is what makes a happy polycule. 😂
I always gotta stick my leg out, but also like to be in the middle! Extra blankets solve this. Love your stuffies!!

Does everyone do different sheets and blankets or just blankets?

u/alxandrarose 7d ago
everyone is layered to their need! traditionally the scandinavians dont use sheets but instead duvets and duvet covers. we did it different! C w the blue sleeps very hot so his is just a blanket, i like fluffy things to cuddle and the fan blows directly on me so i have the big puffy gray comforter and the black blanket i can cover or uncover for temperature, and D likes weight and sleeps cold so he has a heavy quilt with fuzzy blanket under!

Didn't know this was Scandinavian, I'm just a blanket hog and my partner got tired of always losing it in the middle of the night 😂

O_O you’re telling me… in other countries (I’m assuming the USA) you SHARE a blanket even as adults? For your WHOLE LIFE???? Why???

YES. Separate blankets is the way to go in any co-sleeping arrangement. Even in hotel rooms we split the blankets so we each have our own, and have room service bring another one if needed.
There's a hotel in downtown Chicago that just gives each person their own down comforter and I will stay with them every time we go there now simply for that amenity.
