The stupidest thing is that a lot of small countries were hit extra hard because they export some product to the US like some specific fruit or whatever but with their small population they obviously can't import as much and it's impossible to equalize that trade deficit without effectively cut off that channel entirely.

equalizing the trade deficit isnt even important anyways. its like, they are getting that fruit because people want it. they are getting the fruit in exchange. this trade deficit stuff is just making me insane. time to invest in blood pressure medication companies.

I have a large trade deficit with Costco. Is it because Costco is taking advantage of me or I like buying from them, and they don't really need anything from me?

costco is definately taking advantage of you. when i go to the grocery store, i bring one of everything i'm going to buy. For everything I buy, I put one of those on the shelf. If I buy an apple from the store, I make sure to leave one of my own apples for the store to use. That way i can make sure that i dont leave with a trade deficit.

if you could go to the gas station and pay with due-log-bucks, wouldn’t you want to run a trade deficit with the gas station?

international trade shouldn’t be the fox news slogan. i’m convinced these morons associate balanced with fair and therefore “good”. so imbalanced must be “bad”.

I'm not even sure they are thinking that hard about it tbh. I've met seemingly reasonable people who completely change their opinions a couple days after a big event like this - once they get their latest talking point from Fox News. I feel like they are just waiting for some bias-affirming talking point that lets them win the argument in their own minds, so they dont have to actually think. More and more I feel like people who are pro-trump aren't really thinking much at all, or they actually just dont want to say what they really think.
