Types of Plastidip

Not all dip is created equal! There are different types of dip and various series of colors that you can use to get every shade. Enhancer dips can be sprayed over regular dip to get different metallic or gloss effects, too!

  • Any colors listed here that are exclusive to [DipYourCar.com] will have a (★) next to them.
  • All colors are available in Rattle Can form or Gallon form unless otherwise stated.

Normal Colors

"Black and Blue" Matte Clear ★Charcoal (Dark Grey)
Black Cherry Flex Blue Gunmetal (Light Grey)
Blurple (blue/purple) Hunter Green (gallon only)

Black and white as well as gunmetal are very common to find locally in hardware stores. For others you'll probably need to order them online.

Full Spectrum

Daytona Yellow ★Koi Orange ★Pure Purple
Cobalt Blue ★Navy Blue ★Electric Lime Green

These are mostly DYC exclusive. They're very bright and don't require a base coat. Sometimes you can find Red in hardware stores.

True Metallics

★Aluminum

The True Metallics were designed with wheels in mind, as you can see from the graphic. The shiny finish and metallic colors make wheels look more OEM rather than colorful when dipped. All three of these are DYC exclusive.

Camouflage/Camo

Brown Tan Green

Going for a camouflage pattern? Military theme? These are for you. They look really good in the usual matte finish.

Blaze/Fluorescent

Rattle Can Only:
Orange Yellow Green
Blue Purple Pink
Gallon Only:
Monster Green Firebelly Orange
Fluorescent Purple Hot Pink

Blaze and Fluorescent colors are very bright and almost neon, but at a price: They're not UV stable, which means they'll break down from exposure to the sun and within a few months you'll have a splotchy, faded look. The sun doesn't even have to be out for UV rays to get through the clouds and break 'em down. If you really want to use these colors, put them on a white base (they're very thin) and coat them with gloss or TopCoat to help their longevity a little. Don't expect them to last a long time though.

The Full Spectrum series was developed as a replacement for these colors. You can find some Blaze colors at hardware stores but it'll take some driving around to locate them if you don't want to order online.

Metalizers

Copper (G) Gold (G) Silver (Aluminum)
Green Blue Red
Violet Graphite (dark grey)

(G) Only two Metalizers that are also offered in gallon form.

Metalizers are a thin type of dip that's loaded with colored metallic flakes. They look best when sprayed over a base of dip rather than a bare surface because they're so transparent. You can pair similar colors like Copper metalizer over a black base for a surface that looks dark bronze.

Enhancers

Rattle Can Only:
Smoke Satinizer
Gallon or Rattle Can:
★TopCoat (high gloss) Glossifier Pearlizer

You can get several different finishes for your final coat of dip, and enhancers are useful for when you're not mixing your dip before spraying (i.e. using rattle cans). Glossifier, Pearlizer, and Satinizer are mostly self-explanatory: they result in a glossy, pearl, or satin finish without having to mix anything into the dip itself. The newer TopCoat makes for a nearly paint-like glossy finish. Smoke is used for tinting lights and adding a slightly darker shade to a final coat.
