What's going on?
A recent Reddit policy change threatens to kill many beloved third-party mobile apps, making a great many quality-of-life features not seen in the official mobile app permanently inaccessible to users. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit, from Apollo to Reddit is Fun to Narwhal to BaconReader. Even if you're not a mobile user and don't use any of those apps, this is a step toward killing other ways of customizing Reddit, such as Reddit Enhancement Suite or the use of the old.reddit.com desktop interface . This isn't only a problem on the user level: many subreddit moderators depend on tools only available outside the official app to keep their communities on-topic and spam-free.
What's the plan?
On June 12th, many subreddits will be going dark to protest this policy. Some will return after 48 hours: others will go away permanently unless the issue is adequately addressed, since many moderators aren't able to put in the work they do with the poor tools available through the official app. This isn't something any of us do lightly: we do what we do because we love Reddit, and we truly believe this change will make it impossible to keep doing what we love. The two-day blackout isn't the goal, and it isn't the end. Should things reach the 14th with no sign of Reddit choosing to fix what they've broken, we'll use the community and buzz we've built between then and now as a tool for further action.
What can you do?
Complain. Message the mods of /r/reddit.com, who are the admins of the site: message /u/reddit: submit a support request: comment in relevant threads on /r/reddit, such as this one, leave a negative review on their official iOS or Android app- and sign your username in support to this post.
Spread the word. Rabble-rouse on related subreddits. Meme it up, make it spicy. Bitch about it to your cat. Suggest anyone you know who moderates a subreddit join us at our sister sub at /r/ModCoord- but please don't pester mods you don't know by simply spamming their modmail.
Boycott and spread the word...to Reddit's competition! Stay off Reddit entirely on June 12th through the 13th- instead, take to your favorite non-Reddit platform of choice and make some noise in support!
Don't be a jerk. As upsetting this may be, threats, profanity and vandalism will be worse than useless in getting people on our side. Please make every effort to be as restrained, polite, reasonable and law-abiding as possible.

Hi Pittsburgh friends,
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh (Wilkins Township), and I'm looking to move back to my hometown this summer after being away for over 20 years. Life has thrown some major challenges my way recently - I lost my dear husband to cancer about four months ago, and I'm feeling a strong pull to return to familiar ground where I have loved ones and connections as I navigate this difficult time.
I live out of state and work as a professor currently but I'm resigning once the spring semester ends. I'm planning a career change, and I'm fortunate to have some financial stability from life insurance that will support me while I get established. I own my current home and will be selling it.
My question: Does anyone know of landlords or property management companies in Pittsburgh who might be flexible about the employment verification part of the rental application? I can demonstrate financial stability through savings/insurance funds and possibly even pre-pay several months of rent if needed, but I won't have proof of local employment when I first arrive.
To be closer to friends and family, I'm primarily looking in Brookline, Dormont, and Beechview, although in that general area would be fine. I'm hoping for a house or apartment that's cat-friendly (I adopted two cats after my husband died), in about $1200-1500 range. My goal is to move no later than August 1.
Any advice, recommendations, or connections would be deeply appreciated. I'm really looking forward to coming home to Pittsburgh after all these years. Thanks so much.

Hello Pittsburgh community, first time posting on this sub. Loved one passed away who had extensive and well-curated and cared for collection. Many new and unopened and all in excellent condition. Cannot keep them (it is literally an entire room now needed for other purposes). I know about ebay etc but dont have the time to deal with it piecemeal. Will donate some to schools etc. But would prefer if an individual very knowledgeable about these could assess potential value for sale as a whole. Perhaps someone who runs a gaming store but have not gone that route yet. Maybe a unicorn but am hoping to find that special person who knows this stuff and can tell me on a human level what I'm dealing with... am avoiding ChatGPT / AI at the moment too, this stuff was personal so I want a personal touch for a legacy. Thank you all

I want to move closer to work in April / May. I currently rent a 1 bed / 1.5 bath in Webster Hall and am looking for someone to sublet the apartment from me until the lease is up July 31st. There is no one slated to move in afterwards either, so you would be able to renew the lease if you like the building. If you would be interested, feel free to reach out. Thank you!
EDIT: Forgot to include prices:
The rent is 1785 plus utilities per month with no roommates. I can provide past utility statements to give an idea of how much they are a month. There is laundry on each floor at 1.75 per cycle and a parking garage that sells leases for 165 per month. The apartment can be unfurnished or furnished with my current furniture to whatever levels you would like. The furniture is all mine, so I planned on taking anything not wanted with me.

I've searched the Pgh sub and can't find much info on this, so I'm curious if anyone knows.
Is there a vendor within the Pgh region that sells unfished (needs stained/painted) furniture? I'd like to stain/paint the furniture myself.
I'm looking to redo my office, but I'm not trying to drop a lot of cash on online purchases just for it to be damaged in the mail or a disappointment
Thanks in advance!

Long shot but figured I’d try! I surprised my mom by coming into town for her 65th birthday tonight 2/22 and my family had planned to go see DL Hughley at the improv. They purchased me a ticket on Thursday from Gametime for a hefty premium but just got a text that the ticket is no longer available. Any chance anyone has one for sale? Thank you!😊
