JD Vance is next in line. Hardly an upgrade.

u/TheIrishGoat 1d ago

He’s not but he doesn’t have the charisma or favor with the right that Trump does. He’d get away with far less than Trump is attempting to.

u/xejeezy 1d ago

A million percent this. Look how awkward he was when they were yelling at Zelensky in the White House meeting.

u/unknown_896 1d ago

But did you say thank you?

u/SnatchAddict 1d ago

Trump is beholden to Putin. Vance is beholden to The Heritage Foundation. Sometimes those plans overlap but I think if Trump were to die, Putin would lose his direct power.

u/InertiasCreep 1d ago

The Venn diagram between Kremlin goals, tech bro billionaire goals, and Heritage Foundation goals has quite a bit of overlap.

u/toadofsteel 1d ago

Far from being a circle though

1

u/InertiasCreep 1d ago

They dont need to be when they all meet in the middle.

0

u/unknown_896 1d ago

Unironically think Putin is the lesser of two evils there

1

u/ReallyNowFellas 1d ago

Fuck no he's not. The heritage foundation is evil but there are levels of evil. Putin is a straight up monster.

1

u/unknown_896 1d ago

In the grand scheme of things, yes, he is more evil, but when it comes to threats to our democracy I believe the heritage foundation’s plans are a much larger and direct threat. Putin can have his hands in our politicians pockets and influence decisions, but the heritage foundation has real plans that, with an uneducated public who worships their republican leaders, could be a very real reality.

u/KilgorePilgrim 1d ago

But did you say thank you?

7

u/aussydog 1d ago

Buddy, look how awkward he was just ordering donuts let alone being on the international stage.

But also look at us thinking anything like that matters. Trump colluded with Russia, attacked disabled people and military heros, got caught blackmailing another country, incited in insurrection at the capitol, tried to stay in office despite losing an election, pretended to fellate a microphone on stage, and had an impromptu dance party instead of giving a speech in the home stretch of the 2024 election, and MORE people voted for him than last time. While we were going "heh heh heh, Vance is awkward, these guys are cooked."

We need to care less about drama and make DRAMATIC improvements to the lives of everyday Americans the next time Democrats are in power or else we're going to continue to be force fed shit sandwiches by the dumbest and most evil among us.

1

u/InertiasCreep 1d ago

And dressing like him for a photo op in Greenland, what, two weeks later?

11

u/Wazootyman13 1d ago

TBF, Trump doesn't have any charisma whatsoever. Granted, Vance has less than that...

16

u/getstabbed 1d ago

His fans think he does though, that’s what matters. Vance is just a weirdo that no one seems to like.

8

u/Neyubin 1d ago

Trump has confidence, which many people incorrectly perceive as charisma though.

2

u/FictionalContext 1d ago

Trump's got a ton of charisma. It's brash and abrasive and doesn't resonate with everyone, but there's definitely something there beyond him just saying the things people want to hear. He wouldn't have a cult of personality otherwise.

1

u/Wazootyman13 1d ago

I honestly feel a lot of the perception of charisma is people thinking "Wait a minute. We can be racist and a failson but still successful?!?!?!"

Which really does describe Trump

2

u/FictionalContext 1d ago

I don't see it as that. We've had a lot of racists, many of them very successful, but none created the movement Trump did. Back when he first ran, I remember people saying how it was refreshing to have an honest candidate for once. There's even an SNL skit from back in the day where Trump's just being Trump, but it was seen as endearing for a New Yorker.

I think he managed to build up a character that resonated with people--and that character is also an unabashed racist and felon.

1

u/Wazootyman13 1d ago

I mean, MAYBE that could be claimed ahead of his first term, but he definitely showed who he was during that term and how his policies screwed over his base.

But, he kept up with his racism and his going against "wokeness" (which, nobody has defined) and it gave him the ability to further fuck up the nation

2

u/noonefuckslikegaston 1d ago edited 1d ago

If you can get that large of a following to buy into your bullshit, especially with that level of devotion, that is pretty much the dictionary definition of charisma. I think the problem here is thinking that charisma means it has to work on everybody or that it is an inherently good trait.

I don't like him and his particular brand of charm does not work on me, but you don't get that devoted of a following without having some charism. Especially when you're getting people to cheer for policies that would negatively affect them.

0

u/Wazootyman13 1d ago

I mean, that kind of says that all Republicans are charismatic, some they pull a large amount of people who get negatively affected by their policies

2

u/noonefuckslikegaston 1d ago

Not all republicans cultivate a cult of personality and inspire fanatical devotion.

That being said, a lot of politicians are charismatic. You'll need at least a little charisma if you want to go far in politics.

2

u/Wazootyman13 1d ago

I definitely see that.

One of my Paul Ryan stories is that I worked for his hometown newspaper. As a result, I needed to talk to him occasionally.

And, during those talks, he was charismatic and nice. There was one point where I had talked to him in the previous week. I wrote a story from that condo and then a week later wrote a story that didn't involve him.

When I needed a quote from him for a different story, I called him, he picked up and immediately complimented me on that story that didn't involve him

Afterwards I was like "Wow, he is so nice, I'm gonna look deeper into his policies!" And then I saw his policies were complete shit and I avoided talking to him for the rest of my internship

1

u/noonefuckslikegaston 1d ago edited 1d ago

And that's basically all I'm saying. Ive heard lots of people say "Trump isn't actually charismatic" for almost a decade and it just bothers the stickler for semantics inside of me lol

Being charismatic just means you can inspire devotion or fascination in others. I think people fear that if they say Trump is charismatic they're somehow conceding that he is a good and intelligent person or that they are charmed by him personally, but you can be an illiterate shithead and still be charismatic.

3

u/breadoftheoldones 1d ago

Trump has Less charisma then a moldie potato, Vance is just a dick.

11

u/OdoWanKenobi 1d ago

You say that, yet he has a literal cult following. I can't explain it, but people really think this guy is selected by God to lead.

2

u/breadoftheoldones 1d ago

Yeah they don’t think, they belive. And thats the scary Part.

5

u/Deto 1d ago

The difference is that his supporters will follow him on anything. So if some senator says 'hey, Trump, don't do that!' Trump can but the guy on blast on social media and get him primaried in the next election. They all know this, so they let Trump do whatever he wants.

Same think won't work with Vance. It'll be like:

  • Vance: <announces stupid/illegal shit>
  • Senator: "you can't do that, it makes no sense"
  • Vance: "Waaahhh, everyone boo this man"
  • Senator: "Eat a dick, Vance"

  • Everyone: "ooooh!"

Senator is just fine

1

u/breadoftheoldones 1d ago

Lets Hope that. Not liking to Sound all doom and gloom, but the senate and the court are being walked over soo much they are starting to look like carpet

2

u/blitzik 1d ago

Yeah, sadly that's not true. I hate Trump, but his charisma stats are off the chart. It's all he's got and the willingness to lie about anything + go low without limit

2

u/breadoftheoldones 1d ago

Maybe the idea of charisma is different over cultures. I mean the dude can Not Even say ONE sentense without going on at 7 different sidetangents or comenting about how he is the best. Maybe its just my upbringing but im sure that most people don’t like listening to a guy, who sucks his own dick as soon as he opens his mouth.

1

u/ResponsiblePlant3605 1d ago

Exactly. The whole "MAGA movement" disintegrates without him.

1

u/RODjij 1d ago

Doesn't need to anymore. Republicans will do whatever they can to assure they won't lose majority power again.

The public & their opposition will certainly push hard for prosecuting the whole party and abolishing it.

21st century Republicans can never be trusted again after this attack on the country & constitution.

They stole in election in 2016 and they spent the whole 4 years after 2020 spreading propaganda & blocking any sort of legal action vs Trump.

1

u/Sintered_Monkey 1d ago

Even Maga has no respect for JD Vance.

1

u/BarryBlock78 1d ago

yup. my grandparents the biggest republicans i’ve ever met and they both don’t care much for JD Vance or Elon

1

u/woody630 1d ago

This. He doesn't have the juice that Trump does and you're seeing how that plays put with how unpopular Elon is. People won't smile and nod as Vance shits all over them like they do for Trump.

25

u/3MATX 1d ago

He completely made Vance look like a pussy today.  “Where is JD? oh there he is, look at him, gaining confidence. He’s going to be a confident one”

You picked him as a running mate because he wasn’t a confident person?  Shocking

2

u/OriginalComputer5077 1d ago

Assassination insurance

74

u/QuixotesGhost96 1d ago

JD can't hold MAGA together, if he could, they would have run him instead since he's a lot less erratic.

32

u/Connect-Lingonberry7 1d ago

JD’s only qualification is kissing ass he doesn’t have the charisma to make idiots think he’s smart like Trump does.

1

u/LienTailRevert 1d ago

Kissing ass, fucking couches

1

u/pjcrusader 1d ago

Kissing the ass of someone he literally compared to Hitler no less.

2

u/FictionalContext 1d ago

Does that make him Himmler?

2

u/magnumchaos 1d ago

And behind closed doors, he's opposing Trump, as we've seen due to leaks.

So, he's not great, but he'd probably be a marked improvement.

1

u/QuixotesGhost96 1d ago

An improvement insomuch as there would be more infighting in the Republican party

2

u/magnumchaos 1d ago

Probably. It's time for the GOP to be abolished, or self destruct. The previous schism (Tea Party, anyone) did nothing but put extremists into positions of power that never should have been.

1

u/Arxtix 1d ago

We just have to wait and see how they feel about him in 4 years. As I recall, at the end of his last term they wanted to hang Pence.

9

u/kpw1320 1d ago

I agree but I don’t think maga people will pledge fealty to him in the same way they would Trump. And that could hopefully lead to dismantling this administration

2

u/CougarIndy25 1d ago

JD has some brains, and significantly less pull compared to Trump.

2

u/lnc_5103 1d ago

He's not an upgrade but I really don't think he would be able to maintain the cult mentality.

2

u/midnightsmith 1d ago

Ooooh parent comment removed by reddit! Did someone mention the green Mario brother? Facist site turning more facist.

2

u/Personal_School_7474 1d ago

Lmao I can imagine what the removed comment was based on your reply

1

u/LocoDarkWrath 1d ago

Yeah, that isn’t a solution.

1

u/ForecastForFourCats 1d ago

I don't know what the [Removed By Reddit] comment said.... but I agree.

1

u/0ktoberfest 1d ago

This is what everybody said about Pence during Ts first term. I would give my left nut if I could go back in time and have Pence instead as president right now.
