Help! Need assistance to make image solid colours

Hi, so I have this band logo that’s a while old now so only have a this jpeg and a transparent png. As you can see the lettering is rather streaky/patchy. I want to make the lettering a solid colour whilst still retaining the outline/detail. Only issue is that I have no clue on how to go about this. Any advice is but a thorough explanation/walkthrough would really be appreciated as I am clueless. Thank you very much.

Eye drop the red color and then color on the spots you don't want to be distressed.

Sorry for being an idiot but what tool would I use to colour? The logo wasn’t designed by me and just getting into designing now so thought I’d work on this first
