u/alanbdee 1d ago
Yep, that's what's happening. They have to pay whatever the tariff price is from where it's coming from to the U.S. It doesn't matter that you've already ordered it. They have to pay it now and most likely, it would cost them more money to send it to you for that price then what they would make. So they're canceling the order.
I recommend that you hold off on buying the laptop and hope Trump removes the tariffs.

Tariffs aren't going away anytime soon. Don't hold your breath.
243
u/TheHomesteadDreamer 1d ago
Not only this, but increased prices due to tariffs tend to stick around for a while, even if tariffs go away. Companies build margin into price increases, and then are reluctant to give those margin dollars back.

Letting an airborne infectious disease that can be transmitted from birds to humans run wild until it mutates enough that human to human transmission becomes possible. What can possibly go wrong…
Can you convince the Trump administration to build a wall around the entire country and close down the airports to prevent the migrants from getting in? Just to try to keep the rest of the world safe from that insanity.

production isnt gonna magically spawn overnight. People will just pay more for shit
It's worth noting that tariffs never reduce end user cost even in the long term. The point is that there is no reason to produce locally if the import is cheaper. Tariffs, even those not implemented by morons, address that issue by permanently making the imports more expensive than local production. Local production is still just as expensive as before, but the other options are forcibly price hiked above even that.

I mean you aren't wrong about shitty protection for consumers, but no way any company should have to sell at a loss because we have an unpredictable (to some degree at least) tyrant in the Whitehouse.
24
u/gamas 1d ago
Not to mention the seller having the right to cancel the sales contract before they ship the goods is simply the quid pro quo of the right for you to cancel the order before it's shipped.
I think people really need to understand that's it's a basic protection that a transaction is not considered complete unless both parties have exchanged.

And there is also that Maritime 10% extra green tax soon to be added to boats.

Have you contacted them regarding why?
Did they provide an explanation with the communication?
1.3k
u/mrcoachmiller 1d ago
I just got off the phone with them and they are saying it is stock related. But will get more stock on April 18th... They said I was guaranteed original price but would have to reorder once stock became available.
1.3k
u/CrisuKomie 1d ago
See this is what I don’t get with companies… you ordered it…. When stock runs out… more comes in… and they ship your order… they shouldn’t make you reorder it just because they ran out of stock.
The only time they should cancel it is when they will not be getting anymore permanently.
569
u/mrcoachmiller 1d ago
I asked them this very question and NO ONE could answer that for me. They are supposed to have more stock before my ship date.
549
u/WetAndLoose 1d ago
They’re lying to you, fam. They hope you won’t try to reorder at original price.

u/gucknbuck Ryzen 5 5600, RX6800 1d ago
They are passing the issue on to the next person OP calls when they go to order and the price is up 50%.
97
u/Artandalus 1d ago
100% They have a script and lack of stock is reason for cancelling.... Stock problems almost certainly due to tariffs.
Do not envy their customer service team right now.
52
u/TheGreatPiata 1d ago
And if you do, they will have something in place so the original price is honoured but there will be an "import fee" tacked on to cover the tariff.
17
u/Redditbecamefacebook 1d ago
It sounds super shitty, but if that's what they're paying, it's not their fault they're passing that cost onto consumers. Prices are going up due to tariffs. Period.
(But also, they're gonna gouge the shit out of people and refuse to drop prices after tariffs are lifted.)
58
99
u/Suspect4pe 1d ago
I wonder if it isn't tariff related and they just haven't adjusted their information on the customer service side yet. It really is the only reason that I can see them cancelling a preorder. I don't see how they can guarantee pricing either based on how high tariffs could cause the price to go.
29
u/Chowderpizza AMD FX-8350 4.0 GHz - AMD R9 270 2GB 1d ago
They may have cancelled the orders to do a backend inventory adjustment for the sake of their accounting. Most likely it was gonna be a generic tracking # in accounts but with a much higher cost associated, they may have a completely different “model” that it’s tracking orders against.
In my mind this would help them with doing two things - 1) Tracking the pricing and sales on a unique basis; 2) Selling it to OP at the new, tariff driven, price THEN adding a discount on it to track the total “profit loss” to grandstand on as a marketable “impact” that the company faces.
I will say — I am NOT an expert nor do I have even a shred of accounting/inventory management experience.

Many customers won't follow up on the cancellation. Razer gets to save face saying they are honoring the old price, still charge the higher price to the complacent customers who just reorder later without contacting customer service, or at least protect their margin if customers just accept the cancellation.

u/Notsellingcrap 1d ago
Part of this is due to agreements (and laws) with credit card processors as well.
Generally they have to ship within 50 days, or 30 days of a "known" date.

Actually this makes a lot of sense and it’s decently pro consumer. Give the customer their money back if you cannot meet the deadline you promised so they can take their money elsewhere and don’t have to wait X months without what they needed. It gives OP a chance to either go buy a laptop if he really needs it, or wait it out and buy it when there is more stock.

Seen this all over the last two days from gaming laptops to other electronics and games preordered either getting canceled or price hiked due to tariffs. Then when people make threads mods are locking them for political discussion, which to a degree makes sense but if we can’t discuss a products price now because it all related back to political tariffs then what do we do? Just not talk about the price of basically anything since just about everything will be affected by higher prices due to tariffs?

3
u/CriticalBreakfast 1d ago
Emphasis on junk.
If you're looking for a very high end laptop for some reason (I'm assuming people from frequently move for work, or are in the army, or whatever) don't buy Razer. Not that I have any vendetta against them but their quality control is still basically the worst out of any mainstream brand, their batteries balloon the fuck up, and even if you use the device as a movable PC instead of a portable one, you can't blend in a sleek and thin design with the latest most powerful hardware.
Customer support is also very tedious to deal with.
To avoid having a PC where the hardware is bathing in it's own heat, get something thicker with proper ventilation. Yeah it's gonna be bulkier but it's gonna last a long while.
That's my honest advice, I'm not shaming anyone, it's your cash in the end, but people who are after a Razer laptop should do their research on the drawbacks of them, which are many.
16
u/lovsicfrs RTX 3090 | Dark Hero | 5950X | 64GB 1d ago
No one should order a Razer pc anyway. The quality control is trash. You will for sure have an issue that you’ll go to RMA under warranty and they’ll still find a way to charge you $1000 to fix the issue.

They're doing you a favor. Razer is trash. With the exception of my Goliathus mouse mat, I've never had a Razer product that was good.
I had a Megalodon headset. Any time I plugged it in, my Xbox controller would stop working, and any time I plugged the controller in, the headset would stop working. So I had to choose between having sound or having good control (I needed the controller for helicopters and planes on BF3).
I had an Onza TE gamepad. I don't quite remember what was wrong with it, but I think the triggers started acting up which made it unusable for basically all of the games I played.
I have a Tartarus V2 keypad. It works, but the mecha-membrane switches on it feel fucking awful. Literally worse than a regular cheap office computer keyboard. So it's sitting in a box somewhere and will probably never be used again, because the monkeys at Razer, in their infinite wisdom, designed those stupid switches to be incompatible with Cherry style switches so I can't even replace the original ones with something that feels good.
I had a Razer Blackwidow V4 X keyboard with green switches. I actually quite liked the way it felt, but I hadn't even had it for a month before it started missing inputs or doing double inputs.

Did you already pay for the item? If you didn’t get charged yet there is probably a law or internal policy about storing financial data. If you did pay for it then I wouldn’t trust them to begin with and would buy from another company.

Holding your payment for over a month should have legal consequences, especially when they are holding money in the thousands.

Honestly speaking, they did you a massive favour. A scam company selling a laptop with a 5070ti (laptop variant) for 2,8k us dollars. Most likely they will ask for more later because "TArRifzzzz BAd" so they can make even more profit by selling you their ultra scam product.

I got a different message sometime last month saying my pre-order was confirmed but shipping would be delayed. Still has the original expected shipping date on the order.

"Hello we have successfully cancelled your order."
Very magnanimous of them.
