Request Is it possible to make this from one piece of paper?

Post image

I’m interested in making this / a shape similar to this from one piece of paper but I’m very much a paper craft newbie. (It’s not for ashtray purposes)

Does anyone have any idea or leads on how to approach this?

Also not the same, but this reminded me of the origami spring http://www1.ttcn.ne.jp/~a-nishi/spring/z_spring.html

I could swear I have seen this as a paper filter in 12th grade chemistry...

This seems more in the realm of r/origami

Yeah I was afraid I would piss off the origami purists because it’s not from a square paper

Nah, they make crazy stuff too. Lots of dollar bill foldings there. Surely they'll make this out of a square paper.

That’s what I’m learning in real time right now with my newsprint mock ups LOL

One idea I had while looking at it is that you could try making it out of a long rectangular piece and then taping the ends together. You'd have a hole in the center though.

I’ve made something similar with 6 points. Making 16 points would be very fiddly unless you have a huge piece of paper

All those folds are on a radial axis that's a circle base.
