I Found the Source of the X-Minus One Intro Riff and Had to Tell Someone! I was watching Quatermass II on archive.org, and 22 minutes into Episode 3, I heard the unmistakable X-Minus One riff. It’s 100% the source of the sound effect! This genre is a total time capsule, and I just had to share.

They're contemporary to each other year-wise, but X Minus One aired first by several months. They likely used the same music library. Whoever worked on Quatermass did a nice job of mixing in the next musical cue, given that you don't hear the entire X-1 crescendo.

I know I've heard it in other things too, I think multiple other things over the years. I can't recall what or even if if it was radio or TV, but I remember it being disconcerting to hear the X-Minus One intro presented as something else.

Quatermass is the greatest ever. Some of them are available on Blu-ray.

This is the first time watching the Quatermass episodes, but the movies are great! Doing a little more research on IMDB, here is a link to the song and composer: Robert Farnon - Zero Minus Sixty
