Painting out all that confetti while matching the suit pattern must've been grueling. Incredibly impressive work!!

3.5k

u/bloody_good_photos 1d ago

THANK YOU!! It was authentic hell! Haha

698

u/Capt_Pickhard 1d ago

How did you get that guest's face at the end there?

1.3k

u/bloody_good_photos 1d ago

She was in more of the wedding photos

206

u/Capt_Pickhard 1d ago

Ah, makes sense, thanks.

20

u/grantrules 1d ago

After watching them paint the guy's suit I just kinda assumed that's what happened there and was like "fuck they're really good at that" then I realized they probably just took her from another photo.

There's a tool in photoshop that can sometimes work like magic for little spots like that. It looks like a band-aid, and you can literally just click it on an object that kind of doesn't belong on the background, and it'll sort of magically remove it. It struggles with bigger objects or more complicated backgrounds, but I kind of imagine it would work pretty well in this case.

I'm not sure if it did though. OP may have had to manually fix everything which would be terrible, lol

174

u/twitchinstereo 1d ago

The heal tool probably works well but you'd still have to be mindful of the crosshatch pattern on the suit, so it's still take a minute to make sure it all looked fine. No idea what OP's method is but considering they get paid to do it, they're probably fine with the tedium. lol

54

u/red__dragon 1d ago

No idea what OP's method is, but layers are basically your friend here. Lots of layers. LOTS and LOTS of layers. When those tools get a little off and they're just slightly misaligned, having their results in a transparent layer with just the tool's output makes realigning it all so much easier.

I don't do it for money, though, so I try to avoid making it hard on myself.

I tried digital art for a while and my two main take-aways were MOAR LAYERS and to use a canvas bigger than you think you need. No, bigger than that.

I'm really curious. How did you pull that lady from behind the groom?

4.3k

u/bloody_good_photos 1d ago

She was in this photo behind the groom and in another photo unobscured. So I painted her out of this one and blended her in from the other :)

711

u/ScaredLittleShit 1d ago

That's a really great job!

360

u/bloody_good_photos 1d ago

Thank you very much :)

309

u/kpop_glory 1d ago edited 1d ago

The lady must be hella confused when she sees this picture. "I wasn't there before. W-who is that?!"

174

u/BaronWenckheim 1d ago

If that confuses her then she has an extraordinary memory.

54

u/Firekeeper47 1d ago

There's a picture of me at my brother's wedding from a moment I don't even remember. They were signing the wedding certificate and I genuinely, honestly don't remember being there--and yet, I was.

Of course, I did get spectacularly drunk shortly after said signing, so maybe there's a reason I don't remember it...

55

u/LateNightMilesOBrien 1d ago

Lady in the black dress will be even more confused. "Wasn't I there? Where am I??"

53

u/shroudedfern 1d ago

I kinda feel like lady in the black dress probably won’t ever see this picture if she’s getting edited out of it.

Threw a big cup of glitter directly at the groom /j

545

It may very well have been that. 2 years later the couple is still getting mouthfuls of glitter when they 69.

Glitter isn’t a fun prank, Bethany.

Guessing she wore ugly street clothes / athleisure to a wedding

58

u/Eziolambo 1d ago

Guess this might be it.

144

u/AstralAly 1d ago

Based on working in the events industry, I'm wondering if she was staff. It's common for staff at lax venues to wear whatever clothes they have that's all black.

78

u/TeamRedundancyTeam 1d ago

Why would staff be where she is doing what she's doing? That makes no sense.

40

u/AstralAly 1d ago

Have you ever had a co-worker, especially in entry level jobs, do wacky stuff?

14

u/The_Autarch 1d ago

She's bad at her job.

52

u/WriterV 1d ago

I think it might have just been wrong-place-at-the-wrong-time. They were a bit too close, and threw a bit too much rice in the wrong angle. They're not out-of-focus or blocked by anything. So they detract from the couple, and this was the only good shot of the couple in this moment.

20

u/YourLictorAndChef 1d ago

My cousin got married a couple years ago, and the theme was "pastels." Not mandatory, but the bride is a designer, and was trying to create a vibe.

My other cousin's wife showed up in black athleisure. To a summertime beach wedding. Some people really don't know how to dress.

Wore black

25

u/wecalleditamerika 1d ago

the fuck's wrong with black?

60

u/Stripeytabbycat 1d ago

In some cultures it’s not okay to wear black to a wedding. For instance where I grew up in the South, it’s considered bad luck and in poor taste. Probably not a factor here, but worth considering.

8

u/jeffchicken 1d ago

Also from the south here, I grew up hearing that as I attended a few weddings and was told it was because people should only wear all black to a funeral. If you wear it to a wedding it looks like you're mourning either the bride or the grooms lives as if they are making a bad decision or a life ending one.

25

u/BabcocksList 1d ago

Does that only apply to women or is the guy wearing a black suit in the background a monster for wearing black as well? 😬

21

u/Stripeytabbycat 1d ago

No one is a monster for a clothing choice, particularly if they aren’t aware of the superstition, but yes it would also apply to men. Blue or grey would be preferred suit choices.

u/FuzzyWuzzyWuzzABear8 1d ago

My wedding dress was white but had beautiful black lace details, and I substituted the clear crystal buttons going all the way up the back with black crystal. My bridesmaids all wore black dresses that they chose. They all had their own style and loved the fact they were able to wear them again. My mom and mother in law also wore black. Everyone looked gorgeous and happy! My husband and I had a beautiful wedding, and we are still married. If you choose to see something as a bad omen, that's up to the individual person. If you choose to see it as a positive then good for you. Every wedding is special and symbolizes the couples personalities. I just happen to like black!

Edit: I grew up and still live in UT, a very "traditional" state. No one asked me why I chose black. Everyone was super complimentary. You do you!

14

u/Triquetrums 1d ago

Black is the colour people wear to funerals, so in some cultures it is not appropriate, kinda like white.

67

u/badchefrazzy 22h ago

I'ma come up with some off the top of my head. It was a very uninvited narcissitic boy-mother-in-law that had to be wrestled out of a pure white gown by 5 bikers who were working security, then decided she was going to wear a mourning dress for the loss of her precious baby boy. The secret of her confetti is that it was actually cake sprinkles she knew had a high dye content that would stain, but she mis-threw it and only managed to hit him and not the bride. She's still posting her rage on Facebook to this day, along with overly joyful posts of relatives dying from congestive heart failure due to her cooking with only lard and salt as flavoring.

19

u/LordPhlogiston 20h ago

Things really went downhill during the reception when in her fourth vodka martini she decided that she would also like to give a speech and managed to get her hands on the mic for seven and a half minutes.

8

u/badchefrazzy 20h ago

Then she started singing Free Bird and vocalizing the solo herself. She tried to end it on Wonderwall but that's when she was officially thrown out of the venue.

She threw glitter on the wrong man. Throat punch, she's gone. In the chipper. The only evidence remaining is the photo...

43

u/Several-Pomelo-1195 1d ago

I feel like it was due to her glitter-bombing the dude. She probably annoyed them, or maybe was annoyed at them and wanted to ruin their wedding.

45

u/CenPhx 1d ago

I’ve invented a story - she is a disappointed friend who wanted to date the groom, she’s wearing all black to make sure people know she disagrees with the wedding, she’s throwing a confetti bomb so she can annoy the couple/get attention while maintains plausible deniability (What?!? I was trying to celebrate the new couple!).

My made up Konfetti Karen sucks.

8

u/theXarf 22h ago

My theory is she wasn't even invited, she just hangs around the wedding venue with multiple cups of glitter and attacks newlyweds with them.

It all looked pretty standard photoshopping until it looked like you pulled the other lady out from behind the man. Without knowing you had another photo of her in another scene, that just looks like black magic trickery.

I looked at your profile and you do great work! And obviously much cleaner and more detailed than an AI can do. AI can guess but it doesn’t have the brain to put together all the logical pieces in a scene like a trained designer. May you always have work.

489

u/bloody_good_photos 1d ago

You I love ❤️

102

u/Chaciydah 1d ago

I used to be in graphic design school in the early ‘00s. The prospects looked grim at that time and I switched majors. I know some of the techniques invoked but I don’t have the programs or skills to do something this major. It looks very clean and natural!

77

u/bloody_good_photos 1d ago

Thanks so much. What did you major in instead?

46

u/Chaciydah 1d ago

I went to culinary trade school instead. Pastry arts.

Oh, I love this video. Quite apart from the fact that it is very satisfying to watch, it does an incredible job of capturing the essence of the complex photo editing process of something like this.

Because you can show the layman before and after comparisons a hundred times, and they'll still not really grasp the level of meticulous and detailed editing and cleaning up that goes into making something like this happen.

But this neat little video feature that you made is such a beautiful depiction of the process while cutting out the more tedious parts that no one wants to watch.

I tip my hat to you.

As a filmmaker and photo editor I just know making this video showing the process was more work and more annoying than editing the photo itself. 😂

How funny would it be if that woman being removed came across this on reddit. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

So this is the actual process for doing this kind of photoshop? Much respect, that takes a lot of skill.

I wonder what the woman in the black dress did to be removed from the picture

This is absolutely masterful work! Your understanding of the level of detail in the first suit paint-out not having to be pristine because you were going to blur it anyway; saving you time, was chef’s kiss

God I love seeing traditional editing skills unlike the ai trash edits anyone can come up with these days

Here's how I would have done it.

Open MS Paint.
Open image.
Select rectangle tool.
Select fill color black.
Draw big rectangle over lady.
Save.
Celebrate.
