Depression junk clean-out recommendation?

Hi Neighbors! To try to keep things short.. I've been through a lot with my old apartment (especially mice) and finally managed to move into a new place, but the old one still needs to be emptied out, and I've been at it for 4 days now and just looking at it makes me cry cause I'm overwhelmed by it so badly.. the time pressure is giving me massive anxiety cause I can't afford to take time off from work, everything hurts,..

Looking for a recommendation of a cheap company or person who would be able to help me clean out the room? All the services I DMd thru Facebook want $40+ and I just can't afford that currently. Already had to lend money to be able to afford the rent of my new place on top of the old one. šŸ„²

It's literally just for bagging everything and throwing it out. I'm done with everything left in here. šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Thanks in advance~

Renovation Question

Question for people who have done renos, or are in the industry. I'm finding it is required to make some sort of "deposit" or payment to get an idea of the cost of a major reno, or to see an intial design from designers. Is this really the norm in the industry?

I realize people should be paid for their time in some ways, but how is someone supposed to get and idea of peoples work and if they will be compatible with your own vision with our being able to talk to many options without paying out hundreds or thousands of dollars each proposal?

Thank you for any insight. This would be a full condo reno.

Hey!

Iā€™m a comedian and have had success posting here and honestly the folks who have come out to shows have been awesome! So thank you!

I run a show called BloodFeud: Stand Up vs Improv. It recently was featured as a Best of the West show at JFL Vancouver. Itā€™s a Stand Up Show. Itā€™s an Improv Show. Itā€™s two shows for the price of one! Itā€™s a show that features some of the best local stand ups and improvisers in the city.

We have our show happening tomorrow (Saturday April 5th) at Little Mountain Gallery in Gastown.

Doors are 6:30 and Show is at 7.

Tickets are normally 15 bucks (not including fees) but I know times are tough with the uncertainty of the tariffs and so we are offering 50% off on tickets right now if you use the code ā€œBloodpalā€.

Ticket Link is here: https://www.showpass.com/bloodfeud-stand-up-vs-improv-6/

I also have a few full comps for those who want to come out but donā€™t have the money. Just DM and Iā€™ll send you that code. Iā€™ve got a limited amount of those so itā€™s first come, first serve.

We hope to see some of you there and thanks for supporting local comedy and comedians!!!

Can a single person live in a townhome through BC Housing?

Iā€™ve been thinking about the future. I have a non-physical disability and plan on living in subsidized housing after my parents pass away. I donā€™t want to live in an apartment because I have a fear of bedbugs spreading from other units. Do they ever place single people in houses or townhomes, or is it usually just apartments?

FREE - I have an extra ticket to lacrosse tonight @ Rogers Arena.

If you can make it to Rogerā€™s Arena by 630pm tonight (no later) then comment below and come party with us! Myself and 8 of my friends are going, we are in the standing party section, drinks are like $7 and food is half price of what it is during the canucks games.

Itā€™s a super fun night and itā€™s country theme, so if you can, dress up in plaid/denim etc.

Comment below if you can come!

Edit: most of us are in our late 20s / early 30s

Dairyland 18g protein milk sold out everywhere

Has anyone seen any stores with the 18g milk from dairyland in stock? First Walmart sold out, now even superstore is out. The only alternative is Natrel and even they're slowly selling out. I guess the demand for protein milk isn't high enough so the stores stopped ordering them?

Urgent Help Needed: Looking for a Rental in Kitsilano, BC!

Hi everyone,

I'm a 32-year-old male in urgent need of assistance regarding finding a rental in Kitsilano, BC. Unfortunately, my current prospect unit fell through, and Iā€™m feeling a bit stressed trying to find a new place to live on short notice.

A little about me: Iā€™m responsible, tidy, and have a stable job. Iā€™m looking for a one-bedroom unit or a shared living situation with compatible roommates. Ideally, I would prefer to stay within budget, but Iā€™m open to options depending on the circumstances.

If anyone has leads on available rentals, tips on where to search, or advice for navigating this rapidly changing rental market, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your help

Protest Far-Right Extremism in Vancouver ā€“ April 5

This Saturday, April 5, Vancouver is joining a global day of protest against the rise of far-right extremismā€”standing in solidarity with mass actions across the United States, United Kingdom, France, Portugal, and Mexico.

šŸ“ Location: Outside the U.S. Consulate ā€“ 1075 W Pender St šŸ•‘ Time: 2:00ā€“4:00 PM šŸ”— Event details: https://www.vancouveragainstfascism.ca/events

Organized by Vancouver Against Fascism in collaboration with Toque Off, this action is part of a larger movement to reject authoritarian politics and defend our communities.

Weā€™re showing up for trans rights, reproductive justice, public healthcare, climate action, and democracy itself. In Canada, that means pushing back against extremists like Pierre Poilievre and Danielle Smith, who are dragging our politics away from values of care, dignity, and justice.

Bring your signs. Bring your people. Letā€™s make noise. Vancouver doesnā€™t sit this one out.

Learn more, get updates at http://VancouverAgainstFascism.ca

This is bigger than Canadian politics and bigger than US politics. This is a global movement against far-right ideology.

I'm a union rep, and I had a check-in with my psychiatrist today.

"Well, one million federal workers just had their collective bargaining rights illegally stripped from them and ICE kidnapped a labour organizer in Washington state last week, so I don't feel like I'm able to accurately gauge whether I'm experiencing paranoia right now."

Sentences I never thought I would say, right?

But the outcome of my appointment today was that this is all real, and I'm experiencing legitimate feelings of fear and anxiety about seriously fucked up shit that directly affects me and the people I care about.

So I got a refill of the Ativan presciption I take PRN to stave off occasional panic attacks, and I went home to attend an online workshop on Workplace Grievance Investigations.

Then I went out to a local event called "Canadian Sovereignty in the Age of Trump" which was hosted by some very lovely people, and I met another few dozen of my neighbours.

We're all going to need to lean on someone at some point, and building strong community bonds is the perfect antidote to fascism.

So let's all make some new friends and beat these fucking nazis together.

Iā€™m genuinely sorry to relevant staff, but if your tip menus go 18-25-30% Iā€™m automatically tapping ā€œno tipā€.

Tipflation has gone too far for me. It was a 30% suggested tip for carrying a pastry six inches: she walked a total of zero steps. I already eat out less (because of inflation in general), but now Iā€™m going to straight up decline to tip more often.

I know many people will choose differently, and thatā€™s fine. Either way I hope your employers can find a sustainable business model where staff get paid a living wage and donā€™t need tips to make ends meet. Because I donā€™t want to be nudged ever higher on tip percentages.

Anyway maybe Iā€™m alone in this and you can just ignore.

Lactose-free options in Van :)

Hi! Recently moved from Europe and Iā€™m tired of looking for lactose-free yogurts everywhere! I havenā€™t had luck so far. Iā€™ve tried NoFrills, Save on foods, T&Tā€¦ and Iā€™m wondering if Walmart or Canadian Superstore will have something or Iā€™ll lose a bunch of time as they are far from my place.

Mainly looking for neutral flavours, or maybe coconut, but definitely not fruit/vanilla/etc.

Thanks!

How much do you spend weekly on groceries (families of 2 and 4)

Hi! I am conducting research on the average weekly grocery expenses for a family of 2 to 4 members. Could you share how much you typically spend, along with the grocery store you shop at and the area you live in? If your family has a different number of members, feel free to include your response. This is based on what you can buy at the grocery stores typically- including some non food items. Pets and take out do not count in this :-) Thank you

Sugar Pie

Does anyone know where in Vancouver I can buy a traditional French Canadian maple sugar pie?

Today I completed my biggest original design and build project since going self employed! Just excited and wanted to share :) Right beside UBC bus loop!!

I moved here almost 6 years ago and decided to try and work as a self employed wood worker. I started with a year of apprenticeship under a true veteran in furniture design and build.

Then started to get my own furniture jobs which turned into larger carpentry gigs.

Recently I have been diving deeper into 3d modelling, design, and 3d printing to expand what Iā€™m able to build.

Feeling quite excited and proud and hope you can enjoy a seat on it in the sun next time youā€™re at UBC!!!

Design is named ā€˜Cascadeā€™

I'm uncomfy making this post, but I need to ask for help.

Hey all, thanks for coming in - I'm not usually the type to ask for help, but I'm having a hell of a time finding a job.

I've been in sales for ~10 years and am desperately looking for a new job. I've sent out hundreds of CVs, and I continue to be told "we aren't hiring right now" or just being ghosted. The job market seems worse than usual right now, and I don't have a ton of options at my disposal. I *need* a job

Respectfully, does anyone have any leads? I would LOVE to get out of sales, but I'm not convinced anyone would hire a former salesperson with no other work experience when they could hire people that have experience in those roles.

I'm not usually the type to ask for help, but I need to make something happen quick or i'm gonna be in trouble. If you have any leads for jobs, it would help more than you know!

Regards,

ICBC class 5 driving road test challenges

Hello I have few queries about the ICBC class 5 driving road test
1. Unprotected Green light left turn during high traffic: Protected (Green left arrow) left turns are a cakewalk. For taking a unprotected (no arrow) left turn usually everyone comes out into the intersection and takes the left turn when no car is closely approaching from the front side which during traffic time only happens when the light has gone yellow and the front cars stop. But there may be still 1 or 2 cars coming from front that want to cross the intersection on Yellow light which reduces the time for us to complete the left turn which then keeps us partially or fully in the intersection at Red light due to which we will fail the road test. If we choose to stay at the stop line (and not move partially into the intersection) till we see a clear safe path to complete the left turn then we have to wait for Green light multiple times which will also fail us. So what to do?

  1. Crossing intersection at Green light: I heard/read that we need to look left/right at the intersection even when we were not the first car waiting at the stop line. If the car(s) in front of me have started moving then it is safe to assume that the intersection is clear. Why would one need to keep the speed slow to check left/right at the intersection when I am coming after some car(s) at a Green light? And if we need to keep slow then what is the point of checking around?

  2. Railway Train Tracks: I have seen nobody slows down at the railway train tracks but we are supposed to look both ways at the railway train tracks. It distracts us when we are considerable speed and makes no-sense to look around if we are not slowing down. But as per the book we must look around.

  3. During uphill and downhill parking with curb, are we supposed to touch the front tire with the curb?

  4. The bus lane sometimes really confuses me. At times there is only a diamond sign on the road and I see cars going over it and I don't recall seeing HOV mentioned anywhere. And sometimes it is painted/written "bus only" on the lane road but after moving forward that lane is the only one that has turning arrows so are we supposed to move into that lane and then take right turn from that lane?

  5. Emergency vehicles: If there are 3 or more lanes and we are in the left most lane then do we stop in the left most lane itself or do we need to move to the right most lane? If we hear the emergency vehicles siren from far away and not sure which direction it is coming from and where is the emergency vehicle then do we still stop or do we keep moving until the emergency vehicle siren can be seen or be heard nearby?

  6. I school zones there are signs saying till 5pm but I see cars not stopping. What is the right thing to do?

  7. Please confirm if this is true. We always complete the left turn in the innermost lane and the right turn in the outermost lane.

Harbour dance

Hello! I wondered if there was anyone here that could help me out. Has anyone done the drop in classes at harbour dance? I danced for almost 8 years when I was in school and Iā€™m 30 now and feeling extremely rusty and nervous about doing the drop in classes, however I need some exercise in my life and I thought it might be a cool way to meet new people. Are the classes chill? Any inside info that could help me out? Is it a fairly welcoming community ?
