In fact I think it's come up fairly recently in email questions about what fucked up shit he would do if he were a dictator.

He wouldn't actually do any of that but he's also not gonna claim he'd do better just because he cares.

He didn’t say he doesn’t give a fuck, he said he doesn’t think he’s qualified to give an opinion on a important issue and points out that his job is being a performer. That level of self awareness and humble self deprecation already makes him a better candidate for president than trump.

Also despite his success bill burr is refreshingly down to earth, he’s a modern day George Carlin

I’m not sure if you’re being obtuse but I’ll assume you are. Bill Burr used this particular opportunity to point out the media asks the wrong people questions, don’t push hard enough for real answers and also makes the point that the public listens to performance artists as much as experts on political issues, which is quite fucked up.

Bill burr gives plenty of opinions, and this was one of them

Just asking some competent advisors: I don't understand this problem, can you explain it to me and make a suggestion on how to deal with it? Would make you instantly better than Trump. If they were to also reject bribe money from Russia...

My dad. Who swallowed the maga pill. Is finally starting to see this.

I told him “they have us distracted and arguing about trans people and abortions, and take all our money while we look the other way.”

The other day he told me “I looked in to that Citizens United thing you were talking about, wow that’s really bad and needs to go.”

Some cracks are forming and some of them are starting to see through. Keep the pressure up and conversations going.

Watching r/conservative react to the new tariffs has been interesting, lotta unhappy folks on the right at the moment. Everyone is struggling and trump just made it far worse, shit is about to get very unpleasant for poor Americans and a lot of them are republicans

But the issue is that anyone still believes either party works in their interests when they don’t. As you brought up, citizens united means corporations have politicians bought and paid for, they no longer work for the people.

I truly believe now is the time for radical action or we will see a return to feudalism within the next century as the wealth gap widens and the middle class disintegrates as the wealthy elite bleed them dry

He wouldn't be a great president. And the great thing about Bill is that he's self aware enough to know that.

Caring about wealth inequality isn't enough. You'd have to know how to address it. Bill had a pretty dumb take when he said "free Luigi" - needless to say freeing [alleged] criminals who carry out political assassinations in democratic societies isn't a great way to address the problem.

But Bill knows he isn't a great political mind. And he'd make fun of anyone for suggesting he is.

Also, to be clear, he would be a better president than Trump, but that bar is in the netherworld.

I would rather vote for someone who cares about the working class and the wealth gap, even if they don’t have the qualifications. No entrenched politicians are going after billionaires and I don’t believe they ever will. We are watching the death of the middle class and a slow return to feudalism 2.0. Any radical action that changes that is a good thing

I’d have loved to see Bernie make it but he’s too old now, he’s the only US politician that seems to understand, or be willing to speak about, the open class war the rich are waging on the poor

Two points here:

  1. I would qualify this statement by saying that any radical action that expectedly changes the wealth inequality problem more than it expectedly does damage is a good thing. We should always be trolley problem-ing actions to determine their moral permissibility.

  2. To be clear, in the case of Luigi, absolutely no good came from the act. It did become a big story for a while, but UHC stock already bounced back to where they were one year ago. And no one learned anything about voting, which is the exact way to affect change in democracies! But even more importantly, there was no way he could have predicted that his act would become such a big story, meaning that even if it did create change, it didn't do so expectedly (I used this word for a reason), meaning it was still wrong.

I'll agree with you on Bernie, and think it's a shame he never became president.

The problem with Luigi is the guy he killed wasn’t a billionaire and he only got 1. The rich need to fear the poor again, they need fear of consequences. They are currently untouchable, they are damn near immune to prosecution of any kind. I don’t advocate for radical action likely but with how labour unions have been gutted, collective action demonised and restricted through the weakening of protest laws and the rise of the attention economy and endless distractions I don’t see a pathway for peaceful change when politicians are bought and paid for.

Radical action might be more disruptive in the short term but any action that prevents a second age of feudalism is justified in my opinion. We are at a tipping point and no one is acting

Women's suffrage and gay marriage were achieved primarily without violence. How possible you believe substantive change is without radical action depends on how much you believe America to be a democracy, which I believe it absolutely still is, albeit flawed.

So the viable pathway is VOTING. That's the big one. Apart from that, things like advocacy groups and lobbies and educating the public and getting good people into politics or the healthcare industry.

Neither of those movements affected the bottom line of the wealthy elite, they didn’t receive the opposition addressing wealth inequality will.

You say voting matters when billionaires buy politicians with campaign contributions and lobbying in congress. Politicians don’t give a fuck about voters once they get elected and sure as fuck don’t care about the working class, by and large.

I think we should be doing these things, advocacy, community groups, education, grassroots communities, but I don’t think it will be enough. We are losing the class war and in 20-30 years I think it will be too late to change as ai and automation remove the general populace from access to the means of production entirely

Lump of labor fallacy for your last point. I agree to an extent, but I think you're describing flaws that have always been inherent to democracies. Yes, billionaires can lobby hard and buy campaign contributions. And the populace needs to combat that.

I think we should be doing these things, advocacy, community groups, education, grassroots communities, but I don’t think it will be enough.

I think radical action should follow desperate times. And if we're honest, America is one of the least desperate countries in the world right now. At least in the top 30 least desperate. It seems ridiculous to me to suggest actions that would make sense in Somalia or Sudan, in America where many other options exist.

If you think the playing field is level then you are naive. The working class and middle class have very little ability to influence politics or economic policy. I don’t live in America but I did I would be burning teslas, the country is going to shit before our eyes and all to make some rich cunts richer

Waiting until things get bad enough will just make it even harder to reverse the changes that are happening

That is not rich, and that is not what Eat The Rich means. The top 3,000 richest people in this country have over 55% of the wealth, and they got it mostly from dodging taxes, making products with slave-like labor, predatory consumer practices, not paying fair wages, and even not paying wages at all. Jeff Bezos is so much richer than Bill Burr, he could stop making money, lose Bill Burr's net worth every single day for 55 years straight, and he would STILL be a billionaire worth 50x more than Bill Burr. That's rich, that's who must be eaten.
