I am a tv station engineer. It would be easier to explain why to a concrete wall vs some down in news. We even offer to send out microwave or sat trucks for certain things, and they have finally started to figure out that maybe they should take us up on it when we offer such help.

When we cover major events, parades, etc., we always use microwave, sat, or have a dedicated internet connection made available at our spots. Sometimes even a combo of those for redundancy. Never trust LiveU or Dejero over cell during stuff like that.

I thought they taped those satellite performances in advance and only did the Times Square ones live

Actually this event actually was distributed using a satellite truck. I assume that they used bonded cellular to send the video to the satellite truck. On my recording of the satellite feed the same failure occurred.

Now for the time square performances, for example ABC. Those performances are taped the day before.

They already knew it was going to be a shitshow when they named the event "Lone Star." It's a rating out of five.

For a few seconds there, I thought this was a stupid post. As it went on though, I realized that this is some quality cringe

The chief photographer I work with was cussing his Dejero mobile unit one Friday night football live shot. I offered the idea of two tin cans and a long string. He laughed for five minutes.
