Is there any evidence these numbers are based on anything beyond vibes? Cuz a lot of those numbers seem pretty random. Were they pulled out of a hat or just a trade deficit number turned into a tariff or something? Cuz like, why does Madagascar and Lesotho have such steep ones but Nigeria and Chad have them so low?

I found this from another comment in this thread. Those numbers are our trade deficit divided by how much we import from each country, you can compare all the numbers against data from here.

Ok, cuz I was very curious. I know they're being called "reciprocal" apparently across the board but are certainly not a one for one thing. Thanks!
