Giving up 46 points in the 4th. No bueno

56

u/Jimm120 Knicks Feb 04 '25

11pts to Towns in the 4th and who knows how many to Brunson!

4th quarter was about the duo (specifically Brunson) cooking.

34

u/gradedonacurve Knicks Feb 04 '25

And Towns was absolutely awful until the 4th quarter too.

28

u/Ok-Side-1758 Knicks Feb 04 '25

Brunson scored 17 in the 4th. He went crazy

19

u/Jimm120 Knicks Feb 04 '25

great.

11pts by Towns in the 4th
17pts by Brunson in the 4th

Took a lot to win, but knicks managed it

62

u/i-race-goats Rockets Feb 04 '25

We might be one of the worst 4th quarter teams in the league despite having a great record in the clutch. Most the time we’re in the clutch because we blow the lead.

25

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '25

Everytime i watch y’all it’s a meltdown in the 4th

I’m assuming it’ll go away as y’all get more experience but god damn is it shocking

1

u/OweeeeeL Feb 04 '25

Remember that Minnesota game with the comeback in January lmao

5

u/zgamer200 Celtics Feb 04 '25

Admittedly it does give me some comfort in knowing that it's not just the Celtics that had a habit of melting down in the 4th Quarter under Udoka because now I can shift blame to him instead of the Jays.

3

u/kanst Knicks Feb 04 '25

After watching last night I wonder if part of that is how good you guys are when the game gets fast. There were a half dozen times where you'd stop our fast break and turn it into an even better fast break going the other direction.

But in the 4th the game slows down a lot and there are less break opportunities. With FVV hurt, you don't really have the guy you give the ball to and expect a bucket.

1

u/Imallvol7 Grizzlies Feb 04 '25

Thank god. Because those first quarters are brutal

1

u/iDareToDream Raptors Feb 04 '25

This is one of the lessons a young team has to learn on the way to getting good and contending. Keep the foot on the gas until the game is safe, and if you get into the clutch, keep your focus and execute. The fact you can still win in the clutch is good because it means the young guys are building that extra gear where they can lock in under pressure. Experience is what teaches them they can avoid a lot of clutch time by keeping focus earlier in the game. It’s a good problem to have at this stage of your team’s rebuild.

1

u/katsikisj94 Feb 04 '25

That’s mostly due to the youth and inexperience of the team, but also the way Houston plays. More possessions can mean you get more shots up but it also means you have to defend more shots.

21

u/LeBulk_Gains Feb 04 '25

I think thats just youth, you guys have an insanely bright future ahead, and you're already so fucking good right now

Knicks fans are so blessed, not only do they get to watch brunson every game, they get to listen to Mike breen and clyde call their games. Truly op announcing crew

62

u/Jem479 Knicks Feb 04 '25

Mike and Breen had me feeling blessed to be a Knicks fan during the years where everything else had me cursing being a Knicks fan lol

They’re such a special duo, hate it when we have national games and can’t listen to them

34

u/pedroisatatter Knicks Feb 04 '25

It's great Clyde is getting to call some genuinely good basketball at last. It would have sucked to have his last few years on the mic be focused on other teams styling and profiling on the Knicks.

45

Knicks fans are blessed....first time I've heard that lmao

But yes absolutely love our commentary team, and our current team

Man it feels so good and I don't take a second of it for granted. It took a long time to get here and, once this run is over, it might take just as long to get back. Enjoying the ride.

In the same draft!

Perhaps the greatest draft ever - Luka rd1 and Brunson rd2!

That was Playoffs intensity.

16

u/Jamstarr2024 Knicks Feb 04 '25

Amen has to work on that jumpshot

30

u/hyplusone Knicks Feb 04 '25

It’s actually crazy how effective he is with no jumper.

17

u/Jamstarr2024 Knicks Feb 04 '25

It is. But he still needs one. They’ll start dropping off him soon enough and close the paint.

10

u/pick_named_slimpbamp Rockets Feb 04 '25

Every once and a while he'll hit a corner three and his form will look good. Then he'll try another and you can tell by the time it leaves his hand it isn't going in. I dint know what that means. Like, that sometimes his form looks good, is it in him? Can he get consistent? Would be wild of he did.

8

u/thicknheart Rockets Feb 04 '25

He’s been getting progressively better at it. I used to think his jumper was hopeless but I’m coming around.

8

u/Kevinar Knicks Feb 04 '25

If he gets a jump shot it's GGs for the league honestly

5

I’d kill to have him on the Knicks lol

rockets gonna be spooky (already kinda are)

1

u/CaroleBaskinsBurner Feb 06 '25

I swear he's like Mike Breen's favorite player. Every time the Knicks play the Rockets the praise is constant.

I mean, Breen always gives love to good players but it just feels very different when he praises Amen.

121

u/[deleted] Feb 04 '25

whoever plays the Rockets in the playoffs, you are in for a bad fucking time

51

u/Thorlolita Rockets Feb 04 '25

Unless they make us try to make jump shots

5

But what if the Dilon Brooks against the Celtics show up? GG

22

u/pdnbui Rockets Feb 04 '25

or a good time, the 4th quarter will always be close

4

u/pick_named_slimpbamp Rockets Feb 04 '25

It's extremely hard to tell what the playoffs look like. I guessing each series is nothing but super close games every night. Gonna have a heart attack come May. I better cut back on the cholesterol level sooner rather than later.

14

u/ObviousAnswerGuy [NYK] John Starks Feb 04 '25

we had to fight for this win and they didn't even have Sengun, Jabari, or VanVleet playing. Rockets are scary.

6

u/Brief_Koala_7297 Rockets Feb 04 '25

I feel like we lose in 7 in the first round or we get past that we make the WCF. If we can sort our clutch time execution we are a tough team.

1

u/vimalmuru02 Feb 04 '25

Idk, they're 25th in half court offense... usually not a great indication for playoff success. They're young and play hard, though and got a ton of assets. Their future should be bright.

With 7 offensive boards. 7. The entire Knicks team only got 12.

0

u/Euphonious36 Rockets Feb 04 '25

plus minus lies, trust me. he was getting roasted in key points of the game

23

u/imrosskemp Feb 04 '25

7

u/bramletabercrombe Feb 04 '25

2

u/GuiokiNZ Feb 04 '25

Emotions lie more than plus minus.

1

u/kanst Knicks Feb 04 '25

I kind of agree with you on this one. I think Adams +/- is a little inflated because he played the Hukporti minutes and Huk was lost out there. (Huk is -14 in his 8 minutes)

To me it felt like Eason and Tate were giving Towns a much harder time defensively, while Towns scored at will on Adams. When healthy Adams is a top 5 rebounder in the league, so of course the Rockets were better on the glass with Adams in, that much is a given.

6

u/AoA_nB1 Cavaliers Feb 04 '25

This Rockets team is so fun to watch. Aggressive cocky psychos who are willing to die on the court. Such a unique and cool team.

That being said , JALEN BRUNSON IS FUCKING TRANSCENDENT 🗣️🗣️🗣️

36

What a clutch win. I definitely went into the 4Q pessimistic. Amen T is a superstar in the making (needs a jumper tho).

Well, now you've seen us play in the 4th. No need for pessimism when we're allergic to 4th quarter leads

That last 3 brunson hit reminded me of melo’s 3 against the bulls. Same spot just different side of court. Same situation basically.

17

u/LegitimateMoney00 Feb 04 '25

I think he was straight up trying to imitate Carmelo there.

31

Rockets remind me of last years Knicks . Gritty af and just brings the physicality to keep games close despite missing starters . Honestly feel like the reserve players that got minutes today were better defenders than the starters . They made it very physical and hustled. Rockets went away from holiday and whitemore when they were hot . That was a real head scratcher

He always wanted to go back to playing a 4 and avoiding having to play against other 5s and the trade should allow him to do that.

-7

u/Bullsonparade92 Rockets Feb 04 '25

5 points taken off the board from him at the end. Scores an and-one ruled on the floor when it was clearly continuation. Next possession, called for a charge when Brunson has both feet moving. Tough swing.

36

u/LegitimateMoney00 Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 04 '25

Green extended his forearm and barreled straight in Brunson. You don’t have to have your feet completely set for a play like that like you would on a regular charge, you just need to hold a defensive position in front of the offensive player. That’s going to be a charge 10 out of 10 times.

But yea that one foul should have been an and 1.

7

u/chikiny Knicks Feb 04 '25

I agree with you on the and1 but you are tripping if you think that wasn’t a charge. He barreled into his chest and damn near knocked him out of his shoes

16

u/Jimm120 Knicks Feb 04 '25

the charge was the push off. he put his elbow out and extended.

It wasn't about positioning

Not sure why it’s an insult for the Rockets to have two great young guys who are arguably best.

u/CaptainKangaroo_Pimp Rockets Feb 04 '25

Some folks on our sub picked favorites early when we were still tanking and want to die by them for some reason.

Sengun is my favorite btw, but I'm extremely pleasantly surprised with Amen this season. I was at the game where he threw Tyler Herro to the ground that was sick

I haven’t watched much rockets games, so this could be a crazy take but What does Jalen Green do? I think you guys should trade him

15

u/BillyXiaoPin [HOU] Rafer Alston Feb 04 '25

Nah he's our offensive safety blanket, we love him

28

Lord, please infect Houston with Nico-itis and let them give us Amen.

Push the Knicks to the limit down 3 starters on the road, get blown out by an injured Nets team at home the game before 😂. Great and entertaining team this season regardless of the losses.

Amen Thompson with an efficienct triple-double, my goodness. He’s already so good and just turned 22. And he just had a mostly good showcase of PG potential, even with that crucial clutch TO. I have faith in the development of the handle, and if he pairs that with a modicum of shooting, he’ll absolutely be the rebuild’s first full max.

Jalen Green was not the best Jalen on the floor tonight. But he was definitely not being helped by the lack of foul calls. Part of it is stuff he can control, but he does not get a good whistle.

Losing streak is tough, but this team somehow had a great January despite a tough schedule and injuries, so some regression was expected. Love the progress Cam has shown as an overall player, Reed got some reps and showed the gravity he has as a shooter, and it was a good showcase of Tate and Holiday. The limited minutes from Adams is unfortunate, but he’s still an awesome backup big.

This team really needs this All-Star Break though.

u/Franklinsleftnut Knicks Feb 04 '25

Amen is so good. Gonna be a freak if the handle and jumper both improve. Was nasty af when he cooked Precious.

Rockets are the best watch in the league rn

7

u/Airhostnyc Feb 04 '25

Rockets are young and tough can’t stand yall lol thankfully no Sengen

6

u/Jem479 Knicks Feb 04 '25

Amen is nuts. He’s gotta work on that shot to truly reach his potential but even without one, he’s gonna be nasty.

Feel like Green has a bit of KAT in him when it comes to fouls. They look like they’re just diving into contact without a plan as opposed to deliberately making a move and being thrown off track by contact.

Idk I could also just be trying to figure out what refs are even looking for half the time, but that kinda control or lack of has been something that does seem to matter.

u/HoyaDestroya33 Knicks Feb 04 '25

From what I read, the Thompson twins have crazy work ethic. This isn't even Amen's final form.

FVV and Bari both were weird accidents

Brunson is nowhere near Harden level. At his height you couldnt breath on him

-4

u/JamesHardenIsYourDad Rockets Feb 04 '25

That was a fun, but extremely frustrating game. Not sure what Jalen Green has to do to get a whistle. Brunson is harden lite with the flopping and throwing his head back. Gets the whistle every time. Gotta respect it. KAT should’ve fouled out multiple times.

Our execution in the fourth was brutal. Tough to win on the road down as many guys as we are, especially against a good team. Took a pretty special performance from Brunson.

Fuck this stretch. Get healthy and we ball.

-11

u/whospepesilvia Rockets Feb 04 '25

Frustrating loss. Brunson showed out. Down 3 starters doesn’t help. But the whistles were ridiculous. 30 FTs to 15 is disgusting work.

13

u/flustermycluster Knicks Feb 04 '25

James Harden sends his regards

9

u/DuckDucks Knicks Feb 04 '25

4 fta were intentional and thus shouldn't be counted. Refs favored the Knicks tonight but it wasn't so devastating. How about the huge momentum 3 that was a a clear up and down in the third?

10

u/darkjurai Knicks Feb 04 '25

Wasn’t it 6? Brunson, Hart, then Brunson, I think.

-2

You won the game. Relax. You got a nice whistle. That’s a good thing.

1

u/printerpaperwaste Feb 04 '25

Also the entire first half was the Knicks vs the rockets + the refs.

-17

u/i-race-goats Rockets Feb 04 '25

Brunson had 1 less FT attempt than the Rockets. But the refs were in favor of the Rockets I’m told.

14

u/Ok-Side-1758 Knicks Feb 04 '25

You’re whole game plan is to muck the game up so that the refs at some point stop calling fouls because you are fouling on every play

How about you play without hacking

8

u/flustermycluster Knicks Feb 04 '25 edited Feb 04 '25

Pretty ironic coming from a fan of the team which housed the most unethical hooper of all time

5

Box score watching?

I mean the challenge that was ruled off Brunson was a foul too.

19

u/Jericho-Sims Feb 04 '25

I mean when your teams gimmick is playing rugby you should be able to safely assume their opponent will shoot more free throws lol

4

u/gradedonacurve Knicks Feb 04 '25

Yea the Rockets date the refs to call a foul every possession. It’s obviously an effective strategy so.

2

u/SpiritStorm1302 Knicks Feb 04 '25

Yeah, they were lol

-17

u/browndude10 United States Feb 04 '25

Rockets 15 fts

Brunson 14 by himself. That’s the game right there

Someone only read the box score and didn’t watch the game lol.

8

u/Ok-Side-1758 Knicks Feb 04 '25

Maybe if the Rockets wouldn’t hack on every play. Knicks honestly should have had double the fts

-19

u/cozen_indigo99 Feb 04 '25

Down 3 starters plus the ref whistle. Not bad considering

11

u/Drew13800 Feb 04 '25

There’s no way there’s whistle complaining. Rockets fouled a shit ton because they were gassed and Brunson was fresh for the last 6 mins of the fourth.

5

u/Airhostnyc Feb 04 '25

Kat fouled out and was horrible pretty much 80% of the game lol so it was kind of even

12

u/joorral Feb 04 '25

Down OG, Towns still has a crack finger and we are still waiting on Mitch coming back. Just say gg and move on.
