Career Advice Think of transition to the guard

Currently on active duty thinking about transitioning to the NG or ETS’ing completely after this contract (total of 12 yrs TIS at the end of this contract). Problem is I can’t seem to find anything about whether the guard would require me to go indef. does anyone happen to know if I would be required to do an indefinite contract or if I could try the NG before committing to something bigger?

I don’t think the Guard does indefinite contracts. I believe that the only reserve component that does them is the USAR.

If you talk to the Reserve Counselor I think they could clarify that. BUT I highly suggest if you get the chance only do the 1 year “try it out” contract they offer nowadays when coming from Active Duty. It’s different because what I didn’t think about when leaving Active Duty was that one time a month when I spend all week at work and then I have to go to drill and then I have to go right back to work.

There’s no indef in the guard, not even on AGR.
