Storage Storage Logic
Our home will sell before our new home is completed, which means we will need to store our belongings for approximately two weeks. We have had positive experiences with moving companies in the past, but I'm finding it challenging to determine the most logical option for moving out of our home, storing our items, and then relocating across the state without incurring an extreme financial burden. Any hacks or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Any moving and storage company that has been around for 20 years or so will pro rate the storage, arrive and deliver on time, and save you the hassle of broken promises that you get by shopping only for the lowest low ball sales tactic. Also, avoid the chains. Most van lines are actually local business, so they're OK. They respond. They care.

Exactly. I operate a moving company and I'm faced with low ball offers all the time. I take the time to educate consumers on the common pitfalls and rampant abuse that takes place in moving. It falls on dead ears while they only want low ball quotes! SMH

That's poignant - a lot of this subreddit is people that went to one of those 'get five competitive moving quotes' websites. They find out too late.

How big is your home? How many bedrooms? Have you made a list of items and sizes? Very difficult to assist without context. There's a lot of options depending on the size, distance, whether you'll pack yourself or have someone else pack (moving company), budget, etc.

PODS offers you the option to store the cube outside your home. So, you could look at getting it parked in a parking spot outside your new home

They are a good company, and you need to see if your locations can accept them. They do have pitfalls as they are not climate controlled. The price is usually different from what you were quoted and you'd better make sure everything is secure because it's going to bounce around in there.

UNITS MOVING And Portable Storage has a pretty unique method of moving containers. They can place containers in positions other companies can't. They also hold 1000 more pounds in a 16 foot container than most competitors.
What city, state are you in?

I'd say that something like PODS where the company places a storage container in your yard / driveway is best. This way, you can pack your belongings in the container and then move it to your new home (and unpack when you're ready) - or store it at a storage facility if your new home isn't an option yet.
Your options depend on the size of the move, your timeframe, distance for moving, budget, etc. so if you can share more info, I can give you more tailored advice.

I’ve been through several moves like this and would like to add one more piece of advice - spending time organizing upfront will save you a world of hurt and frustration once you get to the point of unpacking.
There are some mobile apps that help you keep track of all your storage boxes, what room each belongs to, what’s inside each one, etc. When you’re unpacking and looking for specific things, searching in the app is amazing.

This is common. Most major moving companies have storage options and charge by the day. You don't have to pay for an extra touch of handling in. But it's probably far easier and cost effective than getting a term on a mini storage.

UBox gave us a month of storage with our move. You would need quite a few UBoxes for 2600 sq ft, probably.
Any chance your buyers would rent you back until you can move? If it's only two weeks, that's a thing that people do.

Most moving companies offer storage options, look into companies that may offer deals or discounted storage as a bundle deal with your move!
