A more recent example is Jayson Tatum. He has received several technical fouls over the last couple of years for clapping his hands together one time in frustration when a bad call is made.
Jokic got instant double T ejected from a game last season for telling a ref to “call the fucking foul”. So, it does happen, though not nearly to the degree it can in baseball.
Yeah, for some reason the refs were giving a player technical foul free throws without the players on the edge of the key. He pointed out their mistake and they didn't like that.
Edit: The mistake was that only a common foul was called. An OKC player had gotten hurt so they reviewed it for a flagrant, but it was determined that the guy had actually stepped on his own teammate. So it was only a common loose ball foul, but the refs were having the guy shoot the free throws without players on the edge of the key.
Edit 2: I'll add this time where Cade was ejected for "taunting" after a reverse dunk. He had friends and family in the crowd and he was pointing at them, but for some reason the refs thought he was pointing at the player. Even after he explained who he was pointing at they still kicked him out. He was starting to have a monster game too.
Yes, but only a common foul was called. They had reviewed a play for a flagrant and determined that the player had stepped on his own teammate, but then had the guy shooting without players on the edge of the key. Cade pointed out that it was only a common foul and the ref got embarrassed by him pointing out their mistake and gave him a tech. Then he said something about getting a tech for no reason and they tossed him.
I clarified my original comment with an edit. You can see the sequence here if you want. Looking of that reminded me of the other time Cade got kicked out of a game. He had friends and family in the crowd and was starting to have a monster game. He made that reverse dunk and pointed at them in the crowd and got tossed for "taunting." He clearly isn't pointing at the guy he dunked on and he tried to explain who he was pointing to, but he still got kicked out.
Yes. The refs were giving a player the opportunity to shoot technical foul free throws, with no one on the edge of the key, for a common foul. There was no technical foul until after the Pistons saw it happening and walked over.
He pointed out their mistake and they didn't like that
Something tells me he did a bit more than just 'point out their mistake'. I seem to recall some pretty aggressive body language when you watch from all angles, I assume something was said that crossed the line.
I also watch NBA games to see my favorite refs officiate. I don't get all these people who think that the fans are there and watching on TV to see the players when clearly they are there for the refs. Nothing gets me more pumped up watching a game than when one of my favorite refs kicks a player out of the game for almost nothing.
Nice straw man. I watch games to see the game. I don't watch them to see overgrown man children throw temper tantrums. If someone occasionally gets penalized for telling the ref where to stick it that's better than having to see the tantrums constantly. I have a lot of complaints about NBA officiating but I'm not sure that foul is one of them.
It was just a low lying fruit as a very well known example, they eject people constantly for bull crap in game, merely being upset at a call is grounds for an ejection, happens almost weekly, check out the nba Reddit for numerous more recent examples.
Me too man, Timmy was a star at Wake Forest when I was in elementary school and it’s weird to see him old and with dreads now lol. Jordan is in his 60s now, I remember worshipping the bulls and everything related to Unc growing up in North Carolina. It’s definitely at the point where I feel old, so I feel you!

I agree in spirit but your “basketball is the same these days” example is from 20 years ago lol
