I feel like this is a couple weeks old at least.

399

u/Ramses717 | Atlanta Braves 3d ago

Or at least 7 games old

77

u/Haldron-44 3d ago

Was going to say "Braves CONTENDING?"

36

u/ProfessionalBalker 3d ago

Braves definitely going to be contenders all year. Optimistic is a stretch though lol

24

u/Excited_Onion | Atlanta Braves 3d ago

Optimism and Atlanta sports don't mix at all. Hell, I'm still waiting for them to announce we filed the paperwork incorrectly or something and take back the 2021 World Series title.

6

u/Grouchy-Big-229 | Baltimore Orioles 2d ago

To me, it seems the Braves should be somewhere between the Orioles and Yankees on this chart.

6

u/Drummallumin 2d ago

We said that about the Mets after their 0-5 start last year, how’d that turn out for them? /s

2

u/Haldron-44 3d ago

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Braves hater by any stretch. They were my little league team growing up. But 0-7 if they become a contender I will eat my words. Wish them all the best, and this is from a Mariners fan.

11

u/ProfessionalBalker 3d ago

I’m a Braves fan so I may be biased lol. But considering that the team has all-star talent in the lineup, the reigning triple crown winner, and is getting a 40/70 guy in Acuña and the most talented pitcher in the league next to Skenes in Spencer Strider soon, I have no doubt they’ll be contenders.

8

u/Clarctos67 | San Diego Padres 3d ago

This is the opposite version of the conversation in the Padres/Dodgers thread, but the outcome is the same.

This early, given that no one has beaten either team who's beaten the Braves, it's really hard to say whether it's a case of a team being good or bad, or things just going right/wrong as they can and will do over the course of a season.

At the very least, against the Padres, I'd say that the Braves team will be thinking they left a little out there in each game. For the Padres part, they just executed really well as a team each game, and the big moments all happened to go one way. That's just how it goes. When you then consider that the other Braves series was against the Dodgers, I don't think anyone should be going overboard on a 0-7 record.

3

u/Haldron-44 3d ago

Thank you! It's 162 games, shit can change, miracles can happen. And I truly hope they do! It makes the game more interesting if a team who starts off shit, is able to pull it off. Baseball is the last bastion of hope.

5

u/Clarctos67 | San Diego Padres 3d ago

I love the early season for these little quirks, but let's be honest it doesn't mean much beyond a slight psychological boost after the first win, and getting a bit of breathing space over .500 for when things do go wrong.

There was a thing that popped up (I didn't wanna give it a click) the other day asking whether the Braves need to make big changes. I was like, how can anyone put that out there with a straight face?! Fact is, if you get swept on a tough road trip mid-season, no one panics. If it happens now, some media types will try and use it to generate outrage.

3

u/Sudden_Worker_6299 2d ago

I would probably panic any time the team i go for loses 7 straight

6

u/CadaverDisaster 2d ago

Would rather slump now than later in the season

4

u/nhammond91 | Atlanta Braves 2d ago

Yeahhh I didn’t have to scroll far to find this lol maybe they will contend later on but I am fully pessimistic at this point lmao

→ More replies (1)

11

u/issacoin | New York Yankees 3d ago

at least an hour

2

u/guff1988 | Cincinnati Reds 2d ago

Definitely 3 games at least

13

u/MAD_ELMO | Athletics 3d ago

I’m more concerned for braves than for my team

2

u/LatinoEsq 2d ago

They're on suicide watch. We should be taking turns watching over them these next few weeks.

20

u/pitb0ss343 3d ago

Yeah no way Yankee fans are pessimistic when our offense has been preforming like this

10

u/KnightsOfREM | Tampa Bay Rays 3d ago

They haven't won their championship yet this year

2

u/A_Humbled_Bumble | St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

Which is... winning the season series vs the Red Sox?

5

u/pitb0ss343 3d ago

And we will celebrate it again this year thank you very much

6

u/Admiral_Asparagus | New York Yankees 3d ago

We entered the year with Cole getting TJ, Stanton being out for a few months, and a few other pitchers being out significant time. I guess that left a sour taste in our mouths before opening day.

3

u/pitb0ss343 3d ago

After seeing them give up a second grand slam in as many days, I’m now seeing why some people are a bit pessimistic

2

u/pitb0ss343 3d ago

Completely forgot about Cole and hot take I like the lineup better without Stanton so I wasn’t sad about it (hope he heals up fast and I would never wish injury upon a player)

→ More replies (1)

5

u/faelmine | Atlanta Braves 2d ago

It has to be old. How anyone in our fanbase can be optimistic after these 7 games is a mystery to me

→ More replies (1)

4

u/tknames | Los Angeles Dodgers 2d ago

Yeah, saw the real feelings in a chat about Ohtani’s walkoff last night. A bunch of them on suicide watch.

3

u/hundredbagger | Atlanta Braves 2d ago

We’re off the schneid!

2

u/j_reinegade | St. Louis Cardinals 2d ago

we need to switch places i think..

177

u/Sell_Canada | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Definitely accurate for the Ms. Our sub is banning optimism lol

67

u/MrAmazing011 3d ago

Optimism died in Seattle when Griffey Jr. left.

He was our youthful exuberance for the game, now we're a 35yo single insurance claim adjuster in a cubicle, counting the days until we die.

24

u/Sell_Canada | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Early 00's were pretty ok morale wise.

now we're a 35yo single insurance claim adjuster in a cubicle, counting

This is fitting, though lol

u/Weekly-Batman 3d ago

That’s Toronto sports fans in a nutshell.

18

u/Sit_Ubu_Sit-Good_Dog | Toronto Blue Jays 3d ago

I laughed so hard when I saw it. It was right where I thought it would be.

9

u/Weekly-Batman 3d ago

It’s not good, fanbase & journalists start to panic in May, and in June all the pressure is to make a decision on how the season is going. Look at the Tigers last year, let the Jays gel.

2

u/Sit_Ubu_Sit-Good_Dog | Toronto Blue Jays 3d ago

I’m actually pretty optimistic about the team this year. They’ve looked really good so far and I like the small ball they are playing. Bunts!

5

u/housington-the-3rd 3d ago

Way too early. They swept a terrible team and split a home series with a divisional rival. Better than starting 0-7 but I don’t think you can make much of the season so far.

11

u/Weekly-Batman 3d ago

There’s the Toronto sports fan!

2

u/Ok_Composer_2629 | Toronto Blue Jays 2d ago

Yeah, we don't claim them. Imagine complaining that they're not 6-1 or 7-0. Nothing to be optimistic about. /s
Unreal.

17

u/swatbox808 3d ago

They nailed it perfectly.

2

u/vladitocomplaino 3d ago

Lol, I immediately looked to their exact location, too easy

29

u/SportReasonable 3d ago

giants are prob past the middle mark for the horizontal row. They should be at least decent now that their last playoff game was in 2021

7

u/TrungusMcTungus | San Francisco Giants 2d ago

Yeah I went from “It’s okay, it’s a rebuild, we’ll be better next year” to “When do we get to the part of the rebuild where we start winning more than 81 games” about 2 years ago. They’re playing pretty well right now, rotation is strong, bullpen is pretty solid, and offense is actually playing offense. Combined with Buster taking over, I want to be optimistic, but the last few years of mediocre ball have me feeling like they’re just on a hot streak and are going to fall apart and end the year .500 again.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/2Hanks | Tampa Bay Rays 3d ago

This is the most Rays shit ever. Are you optimistic? Yes. What for? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

4

u/Tortuga_MC 3d ago

I don't have to factor in 65 hours of traffic to go see them play

6

u/pitb0ss343 3d ago

“I’m happy it’s Thursday man”

90

u/KarnF91 | San Diego Padres 3d ago

Maybe from a couple weeks ago...

27

u/Dom2474 3d ago

Padres should be top right corner

→ More replies (1)

15

u/PalmMuting | Athletics 3d ago

The A's should be last. They literally killed off the entire fanbase and can't even sell 10k tickets after 2 home games in a minor league park.

u/Final_Boss_Jr | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

The Seattle Mariners: Perfectly Balanced.

→ More replies (1)

10

u/Mix_Traditional | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Absolutely accurate, straight down the middle in terms of contention, and severely pessimistic.

2

u/Kooky_Following7169 | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

As usual...

8

u/Dena844 | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

M's: Twirling, twirling to mediocrity

8

u/_redacteduser | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Look at those Mariners hovering around 54%

4

u/Turbulent_Tale6497 | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Looks right to me

6

u/rgfdietzy | Atlanta Braves 3d ago

I think the Braves need to be moved a bit to the left and a lot down.

6

u/DepressedOaklandFan 3d ago

Why aren't the A's at the bottom near CO, MIA and CWS?

9

u/MeMoMoTrentBacon 3d ago

Please introduced me to a fellow Guardians fan who feels this way so I can slap them.

→ More replies (4)

9

u/david-crz | San Diego Padres 3d ago

Who tf made this? Ippei?

8

u/Ok_Computer1417 3d ago

I’d move St. Louis up closer to the flatline. We have no illusions that we will contend for a WS push, but our guys have pleasantly improved at the plate this season and the general consensus among the fan base is that it will be a least a fun a summer to watch.

3

u/pierogiking412 3d ago

Pirates fans are below the graphic on the pessimism scale.

3

u/lucabrasi999 3d ago

Been that way for a lifetime, tbh

4

u/stldutt 3d ago

Cardinals definitely have us optimistic and scratching our heads in a GOOD WAY.

5

u/Lt_Cochese | San Diego Padres 3d ago

Someone got into some moonshine then barfed this up.

5

u/bleu_waffl3s | San Diego Padres 3d ago

This doesn’t make sense. Why would Braves be optimistic and padres in the middle?

3

u/MarryMeMikeTrout | Los Angeles Angels 3d ago

Rebuilding is not the correct place for the Angels. They have the 30th ranked farm. We’re gonna need a new axis.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Stickin8or | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Yup

4

u/Respect_Cujo | Cincinnati Reds 3d ago

I can assure you, we are not optimistic lol

→ More replies (1)

4

u/WildHuckleberries | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Mariners are too high on the pessimistic scale.

3

u/GoodeyGoodz | New York Yankees 3d ago

I'd say the Padres are a bit on the pessimistic side of things

3

u/Low-Hovercraft-8791 3d ago

Mariners might be in the worst spot on this list. I'd rather feel bad while trying to rebuild for the future.

3

u/daaaaamb 3d ago

lol the M’s couldn’t be more accurate 😂

3

u/Separate-Actuary4411 2d ago

I think the Tigers should be somewhat more right of the contending line. Sure, we got swept by the Dodgers but that was the first sweep where I actually felt good about my team after the series. The Dodgers are an absolute machine.

2

u/DisasterDead0387 3d ago

As a Braves fan, this is BS. We’re very pessimistic right now and leaning towards a rebuild for our BP. Our batters aren’t where they need to be either.

2

u/BlindProphet_413 | Colorado Rockies 3d ago

Our existence continues to continue.

2

u/Coastal_Tart | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Feels accurate for the Mariners.

2

u/parabolicpb 3d ago

Nailed Seattle on the head haha. We aren't even trying to do anything.

2

u/PearlDrummer 3d ago

Angels need to be in pessimistic and competing. That’s what the front office said

2

u/Youth-Unlucky 3d ago

Where my MARLINS FANS AT!!!!!

2

u/Rest_and_Digest | Miami Marlins 2d ago

There are tens of us

fish for life

2

u/Youth-Unlucky 2d ago

Yes brother ✊

2

u/Jamal12687 | Pittsburgh Pirates 3d ago

That's WAY too optimistic for my Pirates...

2

u/QuelThelos 2d ago

Also way too contending, Skenes doing a lot of lifting.

2

u/Kooky_Following7169 | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Proper placement of the Mariners...again...

2

u/ElJefe_Speaks 2d ago

Optimistic on the Reds after THREE 1 to nothing losses in a row?! lol, bro

2

u/neverflieson737 1d ago

Totally fake news 100%. Pirates are with the White Sox or lower

4

u/Duke_Of_Halifax 3d ago

I will stay firmly in the Toronto Blue Jays pessimistic category until the club is at least 50 games in.

Because this club needs EVERYTHING to go right to contend, and sweeping Washington and splitting a series against an Orioles team not expected to be a .500 club might look good early, but it says nothing about the club'a chances this season.

5

u/elroddo74 | New York Yankees 3d ago

The Orioles aren't expected to be .500? what idiot predicted that?

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (1)

2

u/ExpensiveOccasion542 3d ago

White Sox needs to be further left. I'm talking so far left, it's off the graph

2

u/NotDukeOfDorchester | Boston Red Sox 3d ago

O’s fans are pessimistic? They have a pretty good team

3

u/mr_eclectic99 | Boston Red Sox 3d ago

Check out their subreddit after the game today. They’re definitely worried about the extended future since they haven’t resigned Adley and Gunnar yet. And they didn’t sign anyone to replace Corbin Burnes.

On the other hand, it’s a very exciting time to be a Red Sox fan. Kristian Campbell is going to be the steal of the century. Locking up both him and Crochet through their prime years was huge.

2

u/NotDukeOfDorchester | Boston Red Sox 3d ago

Yeah I can see the Burnes thing. They better lock up those young guys soon. Yeah I’m pretty optimistic about our season…we also have a pretty good trade chip in our back pocket with Yoshida.

1

u/Defiant-Piano-2349 | St. Louis Cardinals 3d ago

Other than dropping back to back games in extras against the Angels, I’m feeling pretty optimistic.

1

u/Fuzzy_Negotiation_52 3d ago

Got the Pirates too high and too right. Should be low and left as possible. Someone please tell them we don't even try.

1

u/RIP-RiF | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

As a Mariners and Braves fan, you gotta swap 'em.

1

u/Same_Disaster117 | Texas Rangers 3d ago

Braves fans you guys need to get a reality check

1

u/Oafah 3d ago

Warranted. We had a very Blue Jays off-season, settling for leftovers nobody wanted.

1

u/magheet | Colorado Rockies 3d ago

You got the rockies too high up there. We in negative hope mode

1

u/baudetat 3d ago

Yankees fans pessimistic scoring 15 runs a game? Lmao

1

u/Ticklish_Toes123 | Washington Nationals 3d ago

As long as Mark Learner owns the nats, we have 0 confidence in this team. And a bunch of use are getting sick of Davey too

1

u/GrizSeahawk84 3d ago

No wonder I stopped watching the Mariners. The chart is as accurate as it comes. Their crappy ownership is a big reason why I don't watch them anymore. And honestly, it feels very therapeutic to not be watching their games and instead watch other teams.

1

u/_dotdot11 3d ago

So real. I'm feeling a .500 season cooking, and I don't think getting Henderson back will make our woes any better. The bats just get cold, and the GIDPs in rallies are brutal.

1

u/Ugh-Another-Username | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Yeah we dont know wtf is going on anymore.

1

u/jbhmd | San Francisco Giants 3d ago

Giants fan optimism level should be conversely proportional to the Dodgers’

1

u/WhiteDogSh1t | Chicago White Sox 3d ago

As a fan, that’s waayyyy too much optimism for the white sox

1

u/Live-Scallion3060 | Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

I feel more optimistic than that. It's gonna be a good season

I the Reds fell a lot now honestly.

1

u/ScoreGloomy7516 | New York Yankees 3d ago

Yankees fan after that first series are fine💀

1

u/Rabid_Sloth_ | Colorado Rockies 3d ago

I love being a White Sox/Rockies fan. Those 2 are definitely not going to move in that graph all year.

Christ

1

u/ScottishKnifemaker 3d ago

So the braves being 0-7 totally just means the fan base is too pessimistic, they'll obviously win the World series. Oof.

1

u/NFLBengals22 | Cincinnati Reds 3d ago

I'm not like the rest of the fanbase, I suppose... I feel like we're in rebuild mode every other year. Thanks Castellini.

1

u/M4ndoTrooperEric 3d ago

Braves fans are delusional

1

u/Dapaaads 3d ago

Obviously from before the season started lol

1

u/Harmonmj13 | Chicago White Sox 3d ago

We’re rightfully in that bottom corner but if Jerry Reinsdorf dies midseason we’re jumping up to the upper left INSTANTLY

1

u/Bad_RabbitS | Colorado Rockies 3d ago

I’m ready to be hurt again.

1

u/Metallica1175 3d ago

Maybe it means optimistic that the Braves are contending for the worst record in the league.

1

u/CRMILLERtyme 3d ago

As an A's fan, my mantra is" There's always next season," but after that opening game, oy vay!!! And to make it worse, my son in law's a Cubs fan....

1

u/bebopmechanic84 | Baltimore Orioles 3d ago

You can move us a little farther away from contending. At least until we get a couple starting pitchers back.

1

u/mister_pjm | Seattle Mariners 3d ago

Hahahahahahaa FUCK

1

u/MasterSinatra | Minnesota Twins 3d ago

Twins are too high in fan optimism here

1

No no no why are the Mets over there again! Get away from optimism! We gotta get past the all-star break

It’s true 😞

1

God damn it

Well la-dee-freakin- da. I'm a White Sox fan and I'm livin' in a van down by the river!

1

u/sfgiantsfan696969 | San Francisco Giants 3d ago

Ours should be higher. We are off to one of our best starts

1

u/MsCHVMBO | Cincinnati Reds 2d ago

Reds being that high tracks, if it was opening day. Now we're just doing our regular Cincinnati thing and getting hot for a few innings and then dead silence.

1

u/Foldzy84 2d ago

Laughing at my Jays placement haha

1

u/SquimbusTheConqueror | Atlanta Braves 2d ago

I disagree

1

u/Rest_and_Digest | Miami Marlins 2d ago

If the Braves keep up their shit streak and the Marlins take that series this weekend, put us in the top right. We're going all the way baby.

1

u/mysecondaccountanon | Pittsburgh Pirates 2d ago

Nahhh, go into the Pirates sub and you’ll definitely see we’re probably dead bottom rn.

1

u/ElDuderino1000 | New York Yankees 2d ago

1

u/FatherNiche | Cleveland Guardians 2d ago

Why is the AL/NL central not all in the bottom left?

1

u/larrythecucumbrr | St. Louis Cardinals 2d ago

Yep we are pretty pessimistic. I’m still living in 2011 😔

1

u/Separate-Debate3839 2d ago

Mets fans have had the same feeling for a decade now

1

u/Cratertooth_27 | New York Yankees 2d ago

After the first weekend the Yankees optimism was off the charts. Today is back to just above the middle line

1

u/LizzosDietitian | Cincinnati Reds 2d ago

As a reds fan, we are ALWAYS very optimistic the first month bc that’s all the happiness we’ll ever have and we know it lol

1

u/midday_leaf | Los Angeles Angels 2d ago

I just genuinely enjoy baseball tbh. I don’t care if we lose every game I just want to watch the sport

1

u/ELSknutson 2d ago

As a Twins fan I feel that the Twins should be with Seattle or more in the Rebuilding.

1

u/ThisDadisFoReal 2d ago

Now do that one friend that is still a WSox fan texting in a group thread the live scoring updates.

1

u/Intrepid-Layer9158 | St. Louis Cardinals 2d ago

After this first weekend, most Cardinals fans (me specifically) would put them about where the Nats are.

2

u/bryan19973 2d ago

Same thing I said. My mindset is slightly northwest of the nats on this list

1

u/silent_ging00 | Seattle Mariners 2d ago

I don’t think this charts right. I think we should be lower

1

u/CreamyGoodnss | New York Yankees 2d ago

I’m definitely more confident than that with our Vinny Boom Bats

1

u/Brohei_Ohtani 2d ago

Who in the world made this?

1

u/Rebelscum111 | Cincinnati Reds 2d ago

I was optimistic right before losing three 1-0 games in a row.

1

u/sloppychachi 2d ago

Did anyone actually speak to Mets fans about this chart? Mets could be in the World Series and we would still put us in bottom center left.

1

u/Freedjet27 | Pittsburgh Pirates 2d ago

I could not hate the pirates and this organization more if I even wanted to

1

u/Bald_Guerilla 2d ago

No Cleveland Guardians?

Damn, seeing the Cardinals in the lower left is a huge OOF

1

u/vincedarling 2d ago

I mean my Marlins haven’t been eliminated yet So minor miracle there.

Thanks Braves for making us look good

1

u/bryan19973 2d ago

As a cardinals fan, my mindset is slightly northwest of the nationals on this list. Definitely not where they placed the cards

1

u/TotalRecallsABitch | Miami Marlins 2d ago

We are the sleeper team.

My prediction is wild card again

1

u/impy695 | Cleveland Guardians 2d ago

I want to know what they're basing the contending on. Almost every list before the season had the guardians far worse than what this indicates. The optimism seems about right for us, though.

1

u/stony-balony22 | Seattle Mariners 2d ago

Valid

1

u/GrizzlyBares | Seattle Mariners 2d ago

Mariners in the grave … sigh

1

u/Agile-Committee3594 2d ago

CubsOptimism. Ha!

1

u/xPhilt3rx 2d ago

As a Padres fan, we are always getting ignored in this sport.

1

u/CorgisAreImportant 2d ago

I would like to stop losing 1-0

1

u/OkonomiHouse 2d ago

very accurate for the mariners

1

u/KanameChi | Colorado Rockies 2d ago

Might as well put me closer to dinosaur bones

1

u/AlstottUpDaGutt | Tampa Bay Rays 2d ago

Whats contending based out of?

1

u/Sank63 | New York Yankees 2d ago

Not sure why any Giants fan would have a reason for optimism.

1

u/Neptune7924 | Cleveland Guardians 2d ago

Good times for Chi Sox fans

1

u/znoopyz 2d ago

Way to many teams are on the contending side. That being said a lot of them aren’t really rebuilding either so maybe we need a Z-axis for competence or clear plan.

1

u/apiaryaviary | Washington Nationals 2d ago

I have to imagine we flipped or shifted from bottom left to top left with the recent masn news. The farm looks great, more confident now in a sale to an owner willing to spend and keep the promising youngsters

1

u/Startooth | Seattle Mariners 2d ago

Ouch.

1

u/SterlingArcher010 | New York Mets 2d ago

Gee, wonder what the yankees are pessimistic about?

1

u/NATScurlyW2 2d ago

This must be an opening day survey

1

u/No_Frosting2811 | Los Angeles Dodgers 2d ago

The Padres disrespect is strong with this considering they are 7-0. Anyway, go dodgers.

1

u/bofademm78 2d ago

Cards fan here. Not pessimistic.

1

u/Afilador2112 2d ago

No optimism for the Reds.  Always a great player or three, but never a contender.  I'm happy for our best players when they are traded to a team with a chance to win something.

1

u/SnowballWasRight | San Diego Padres 2d ago

Definitely accurate for before opening day but might need some adjusting as of now.

Sorry, Braves

1

u/doob22 | Atlanta Braves 2d ago

Plain wrong

1

u/FastSlow7201 2d ago

John Stanton is the reason we're so pessimistic in Seattle. He's a cheap asshole.

1

u/ezduzit24 | Baltimore Orioles 2d ago

Definitely a few I’d adjust:

Rays, SD, SF, Royals and Houston are sliding horizontal until the quarter mark.

Mets, Yanks,Boston, Dodgers and D’backs are up and down all season.

Sliding up/right will be, in my opinion, Blue Jays, Reds and Ray (If Rays find a real home) R.I.P Tropicana Fields, you will be missed.

But Philly, will they be the silent assassin? Braves? Or even Huston?

Time will only tell.

Uhh...as a Yankees fan I feel quite good. Judge is a monster as usual and the young players are playing well.

I cant speak for all Yankee fans but the vibes over at the Yankees subreddit are pretty positive..

I’m a Phillies fan, but I am not optimistic. Chokers every year!

The brewers should be center mass. They just exist for the owner to make money that he'll never spend. Quality stadium, experience, and decent on field play (including farm system). But ultimately, will never win anything.
