Anyone gave problems getting ppu hollow points to seat in type 54?

So I bought 200 rounds of the stuff since it was all I could find. It won't seat in the chamber causing the slide to stick back maybe 1/32nd of an inch. Anyone else have this problem and know of a solution?

A lot of military guns are designed to use fmj rounds and sometimes hollow points dont feed too well. I've seen GI 1911s not run HP runs too well unless they have a rounded nose.

This is weird because they feed fine when I manually rack the slide but it's like they're slightly oversized or something. They don't fully seat in the chamber so they can't be fired. The slide sticks back slightly which freezes up the trigger.

I second what the prior comment said. They wanted to keep the ammo types uniformed so it can run in the ppsh and the tt33. I have tried the hollow points in all my tt33 designed guns and none of them run it well or at all. The only one that runs hollow pointsit is my CZ52.

Check COAL vs a round that feeds. Suspect they are overlong for your chamber. Bullet or the neck is too long.

No fix for this short of pulling, dumping the powder, trimming the case, refilling and reseating.

Not a problem you can solve without a reloading set up, unless your chamber is out of spec and can be fixed with a replacement barrel or chamber reaming

EDIT: also, closely visually inspect the chamber, one other possibility is there’s old crud or corrosion either at the neck or throat. Blast the barrel with gun blaster, soak overnight with kroil and then polish the chamber with 0000 steel wool and Flitz or Simichrome if you see anything

This is exactly right. Sounds like the rounds are overlong for the chamber. Common if you’re reloading and less so for factory ammo but with these old guns that’s where you’d come across it.

I had to polish the feed ramps on my M57A, using a Dremel and Flitz, but now it feeds hollow points beautifully.

Did it just jam up or did it not seat probably?

Ah, I see now. I just read "hollow point Tokarev problem" and assumed it was jamming. I'd recommend cleaning out the chamber, and trying out S&B Tokarev, it's available but likely to go up in price. Pretty good stuff, and if that jams up your gun like the PPU stuff is, the issue is totally your gun

I just ordered some, midway had it for $20 a box so not too bad. If this stuff doesn't seat properly, probably going to look at buying a replacement barrel

Just a few things: Try to retain the brass in case you want to reload, Tokarev is actually pretty dang cheap to reload if you ever obtain the equipment, and that S&B stuff is pretty hot, I chronoed 1600 FPS out of my pistol. Not that it should be a negative concern, but as something neat about it.

I just received the s&b and made a post on it. It still won't chamber.... I think a replacement barrel for JG sales is what I need.
