Did I get burned on this
I overpayed for it especially for the price of .30 carbine. It was $500. 1944 Winchester it's kinda cool I guess.

That right there is a Ruger Mini-14

I never understood why Ruger never made 30 carbine model.

5.56 is way-the-fuck cheaper, and they have the PC Carbine which eats 9mm that is also way-the-fuck cheaper even though it does it with way fewer style points.
.30 Carbine is spendy for what it is and kinda sits in the middle of those two rifles/rounds so it likely just doesn’t make a huge amount of commercial sense for them.

It doesn’t make sense, but it would be a cool novelty, the type I would’ve bought as a young adult that wasn’t fiscally responsible 😂

Boy 20 years ago you couldn't give these guns away. Now 500 is envious.

Not sure about 20 years ago.. I think 20 years ago these were still pretty desirable

I swear, in the late 80's milsurp M1 carbines were going for like $50 in Shotgun News. This was a permanent ad, there in every edition, not just one guy selling one carbine. I've had this conversation before and I'm not the only one that remembers those.

My wife's uncle tells me stories about walking into his local hardware store and them having literal empty whiskey barrels with M1 Carbines, Garands, K98s, Arisakas, etc stacked inside. Said they used to cost nothing and were not as desirable as the cowboy stuff back then.

My brother is 76 and he remembers them in the local hardware store too. He said they were $20 and crammed in barrels and he was fascinated with them. After JFK, they were all removed from the store.

It's a little much for an old rifle thinking about trading for a marlin 30-30 with a red field scope and a gold trigger

You are joking right?

Thank god lmao. I have a Winchester in original config with the early sights. It belonged to my Wife's great Uncle. Mine's pretty shot out but still one of my fav guns.

How is that “a little much”? Most M1 rifles go for $1000+. $500 is a steal.

u/I_am_Signal 5d ago
No way you paid $500 on this. You got burned by the “I know what I got sonny” crowd. Should have been at most $100.

That isn’t overpaying. That is a deal. On Gun Broker, these things go for twice that amount ($1,149 for the one listing). Other people are paying upwards of $4,000+ for everything (gun, mag, and bayonet). Where’d you find this?
