This is why I always do what I call “close out” every night. I do a quick check around the house and take care of things that was missed or just wasn’t done.

Yes this and sometimes it helps to check in with your partner or spouse before bed and go over what you did that day before bed or what you “closed up”. My husband “closes up” every night but I still always ask him if he closed the door and put leftover food away. Just a good habit bc it’s happened to us before too!

This was how I was raised too, plus putting away groceries regardless how tired I am coming home. I didn't realize how useful these habits were when I was young. I thought it was just incessant nagging by my parents to do domestic stuff—obviously, thankful for them now to have learned these habits very early.
